Nourishing a Child Essay
The word hunger can mean the painful sensation caused by the want of food, the want or scarcity of
food in a country or a strong desire or craving. In relation to the term World Hunger, the word refers to
the want or scarcity of food in a country (World Hunger, 2011). In areas of the world, including the
United States, where hunger is an issue, malnourishment becomes a very serious concern.
Malnutrition is a very basic term referring to the general lack of some or all nutrients needed to
support human health. There are two main types of malnutrition, Protein energy malnutrition (PEM)
and micronutrient deficiency (World Hunger, 2011). While both types of malnutrition are dangerous,
PEM is the most important and most notable form of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the early years of life, from approximately ages zero to three, the brain experiences dramatic
changes in cognitive, linguistic and psychosocial development which can be dramatically affected by
any decrease in the appropriate amount of nutrients to the brain.
Children with severe growth retardation secondary to protein energy malnutrition in the post weaning
period manifest a striking behavior syndrome that has been well described as torpid, apathetic,
inactive, fearful, cheerless, nearly, mute, and anorexic and they lack spontaneity (DeLong, 1993). In
2005 an estimated thirty two percent of all children in developing countries under the age of five,
approximately one hundred seventy eight million children, were shown to have stunted growth or low
weight for height (Ruel Hoddinott, 2008). In the United States, malnourished children ages three to
eight have been shown to have low physical function, poor academic performance, greater weight gain
amongst girls and low psychosocial functioning (Ruel Hoddinott, 2008). Malnutrition in the early
years can result in a lowered IQ by approximately fifteen points. An early deprivation of critical
resources to the brain can contribute to the cause of learning deficiencies and contribute to attention
deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and decreased performance in schools across

1.1 Explain The Concept Of Safeguarding
The concept of safeguarding includes many different factors. A major one of these is family
circumstances. When looking at the parents/carers of children, the health of those in charge can be a
very important factor when looking at the wellbeing of children. Parents who may be struggling due to
their own health problems, either physical or mental, may as a result have difficulty in caring for their
own children. In some circumstances, parents/carers may be struggling with substance misuse and
drug addiction. This may result in a failure to provide for their childrenâ€TMs needs adequately or
even just to provide a safe home environment. A parents/carer responsibilities in relation to their
children involve many important decisions such as the nutritional value of their meals, access to health
services ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poverty is another factor child protection within the wider field of safeguarding children. Poverty can
have very damaging effects upon the health and overall wellbeing of children. Growing up within
poverty can mean being cold, hungry and not being able to join in with social activities with their
friends. A study by the Child Poverty Action Group, (CPAG), found that 3.5 million children are living
in poverty in the UK and that children from low income families are more likely to die at birth, suffer
chronic illness during childhood or have a disability. They also found that children living in poverty
are almost twice as likely to live in bad, unsuitable housing which has a significant impact upon their
physical and mental wellbeing as well as impacting upon their educational progress. (CPAG 2013)
When looking at child protection within the wider field of safeguarding, cultural practices need to be
taken in to account. There are some cultural practices within some countries that are considered to be a
form of exploitation by many international organisations. In some parts of the world,

Foster Care And Adoption Is More Common Than Not
Children roam around in schools, at work, on the playground, in the malls, and anywhere else a child
would like to be. Young children are often accompanied by an adult, of which one would assume to be
their parents or primary caregivers. In 2007 forty eight million americans had considered adoption.
Foster care has a goal, it is to help children in need be safe for the time being and try to reunited these
children with their biological parents. Believe it or not foster care and adoption is more common than
not. Many myths go around making children dread the system when in all reality the system is a
support system there to help those children in need. Once the child is in a placement with a foster
family, their ultimate goal is to provide the child in a safe, loving, nurturing environment until then
can be reunified with their parents. These children get use to their foster family, some even grow
rather fond of them and are attached, is it right to take away the only family they have ever really truly
known? This can cause emotional arousal and distress on the child and the foster family.
There are many people in the world who for some reason do have have the ability to have children.
This does not mean they should not be a parent or that they cannot be a parent. Many of these families
consider being foster parents or even adopting children so they can experience parenthood. Not
everyone is meant to be a foster parents, although it is relatively easy to become a foster

Descriptive Essay On A Beach
For this assignment I decided to head out to Docweiler Beach near LAX. I love the beach, not so
much for going swimming or getting wet but more to lay in the sand and just relax to the soothing
sound of the waves, especially nice in this hot weather. I decided to bring my sister for the ride so it s
not to lonely and set up around a more deserted part for more concentration and relaxation. I also
chose Dockweiler Beach because there I could get a sense of all the 5 ancient elements all in one
sitting, with all the elements interacting. Water clashing against the sand to create a calming sound, the
wind riding against the waves causes a cool chill down my spine and the man made fire to keep warm.
I can feel the earth element in the sand getting in my toes and all over my clothes to later find more in
my underwear. The Air element is strong along the beach, getting my hair all over my face as well as
making kites fly high. I see the fire element being used to light the bonfires along the beach to keep
people warm on the windy beach or to probably make S mores. The water element as I can see is the
giant ocean in front of me going as far as I can see with no ending. Another reason I don t like going
into the water, the ocean is terrifying especially when you don t know how to swim. Then there is the
void element which in this case is me and my mind observing this presence and writing it out in this
essay. Officially today there is a total of 118 elements in the periodic table. These ancient four
elements originated from the ancient Greeks and then the fifth element aether (void) was added by
Aristotle. Before the fifth element the first four elements which were earth, wind, water, and fire,
represented to the ancient Greeks as well as modern science the four states of matter. In these 4 states
of matter we have solid representing the earth element, liquid representing the water element, gas
representing the air element, and plasma representing the fire element. The ancient 5 elements are
active is every bodies daily routine schedule. It s something we see every day and don t notice the
affects they have on us. Looking more closely to everyday life we have earth. Earth is what we walk

Why Did The Samurai Attack Dbq
The sly and flexible samurai prepares to unleash his katana while opponent, the knight rides
courteously on his horse ready to pull out his sword that lies within a compartment built in his armor.
Who will win this deadly battle? The samurai, of course thanks to his agility as well as being ready to
attack whenever threatened. This essay will discuss the advantages that the samurai has against the
knight, if the two were to ever come in contact on the battlefield. One of the ways that Samurais have
an advantage against knights is due to their armor. In document D, written by Terry Bennett, it says
The helmet bowl (of a samurai) was made of 8 12 iron plates. The samurai very much needed this
because it was said and proven to be true that a knight s sword could slice through one s head and only
be stopped by the teeth of a human. Another piece of evidence that supports my claim is in document
D as well. The text states Samurai did not wear armor on their right arm so they could easily draw
their bow. This was a major advantage to the samurai because they needed to have the ability to draw
back their bow and aim at their target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In document C1, written by PBS, the text states The young warriors studied Kendo, the art of fencing
with bamboo sticks. Warriors in their youth studied Kendo, which might ve been a factor in allowing
samurais to be flexible and quick moving. The knight could ve possibly tried to strike at the samurai
and due to the samurai s specialized training, they could easily dodge it. Another piece of evidence
that supports my claim is found in document C1, as well. The text states In their schooling, they had
physical training and learned poetry and spiritual discipline. Samurais were not only apparently skilled
physically but mentally as well. Thanks to the training they had, they most likely had a clear mind and

Casey Anthony Essay
Casey Anthony Trial Patricia Saylor Donna Dansey Computer Forensics November 25, 2012 Casey
Anthony Case There have been many murder trials in the United States which have gripped the nation,
OJ Simpson, BTK, Lee Harvey Oswald. But more shocking to the consciousness of America is the
story of a child which has been killed. Such would be the case of Caylee Anthony, and the trial of
Casey Anthony. In this assignment the discussion will focus on this case, exposing the much of the
drama created by this case. On July 15th, 2008, two year old Caylee Marie Anthony was reported

authorities. Additionally there was photographic evidence entered on the case which had been
retrieved from the computer of Ricardo Morales, a former boyfriend of Casey Anthony. The picture
was that of a poster which said Win Her Over with Chloroform . (DD, 2011). The prosecution had
based much of the case on the digital evidence found on the computer that Casey Anthony used, with
most of the attention given to the 84 times that the word chloroform had been searched. That evidence
would later be challenged by John Bradley himself, who would change his original statement and
reveal that there was only one reference found in the computer related to the search of chloroform.
(Jones, 2012). Other challenges to the computer forensic evidence were provided in the case by one of
the investigators, Detective Yuri Melich, who by using Net Analysis was able to determine that there
was inaccuracies in the data on the Casey Anthony case, which brought into question the data itself as
well as whether Casey Anthony could have been the only

John Steinbeck Light And Darkness Essay
Light and darkness are two polar opposites. Light is like hope, and darkness is like sadness, or trouble.
John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men uses these elements in his book to portray the hope,
sadness and the immediate change between these two feelings, to advise the reader about the conflicts
that migrant workers experienced while working on the ranch. John Steinbeck uses the elements of
light, darkness, and the immediate change between the two to portray the hope, sadness, and the
sudden change of feelings, that happens to the ranch workers in this book.
John Steinbeck uses the element of sunlight to foreshadow the hope that appears in the lives of the
ranch workers. One example of this is The sun streaks climbed up ... Show more content on

Another example of darkness foreshadowing troubling times is He led the dog out into the darkness .
(Steinbeck 23). This quote occurs when Carlson is taking Candy s dog out to shoot it. The darkness
that Carlson leads the dog into is foreshadowing the darkness that would soon be occurring to the
ranch workers, especially George and Lennie. John Steinbeck uses the element of darkness to
foreshadow the troubling times that come and go for the ranch workers.
John Steinbeck uses the quick change of sunlight to darkness throughout the book, to portray the
sudden changes of happiness to sadness that the workers experience while on the ranch. One example
of this quick change is Both men glanced up, for the rectangle of sunshine in the doorway was cut off
(Steinbeck 15). This quote happens right as Curley s wife is entering the room to meet George and
Lennie. This shows the quick change between light and darkness because before Curley s wife entered
the room, there was sunlight shining throughout the room, but as soon as she entered the room, the
sunlight was blocked out, which is a sign that George and Lennie should stay away from Curley s
wife, because she could cause trouble. Another example of the quick change between light and
darkness in this book is

Let There Be Light
Since the Razzo screening of this week consists of multiple movies. I would like to divide my
response into two parts. The first part focuses on the key qualities that make Let There Be Light such
an iconic documentary and also the source of its supression by the government. The second part
focuses on the experimental films: Meshes of the Afternoon, Fireworks, and Rose Hobart.
Let There Be Light stood out in the documentary genre firstly because of its reliance on unscripted
interviews. It is mentioned in the article that some thousand hours was spent on footage that would
meaningfully make up a 1 hour documentary. All of the interviews are exemplary of showing the
narrative the documentary was trying to convey: how war affected the soldier ... Show more content

Meshes of the Afternoon is the most visually appealing one. Mentioned in the article, the film has a
sort of rhythm that is symbolic in most of Deren s movies. It deals a lot with identities and
identifications, like the scene of multiple instances of the protagonist, or the scene with the hooded
man with a reflective face. Here, I interpreted the scene as that there were a lot of side to the
protagonist and the mirror is to reflect into self, which later on in the movie we can see that in the
reflection is the husband. Also dreamlike in narrative is Fireworks, which was basically considered to
be within the post war avant garde genre in the article. This short, primarily a comedy, has a lot of
sexual inuendos embeded into the visual coding. It portrays that the protagonist is in search for
fullfilment and sexual satisfaction within the depths of his conscience. The article mentioned about the
not so subtle imagery and symbolism in the film , with the aforementioned pyrotechnic phallus, the
river of milk standing in for semen . The third short is a montage, which is a brilliant one with
concentrated but dreamlike and open to interpretion narrative, with all the footage from East of
Borneo. Surrealism is achieved once the narrative of the East of Borneo, with all of its drama, is
stripped off to become something more mysterious and less revealing. And with the soundtrack, the
blue tint, the image of the solar eclipse and the

From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise
known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake should be
15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will analyze the
reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet. Looking at my daily
intake, I realize I have only been consuming one third of what I should be having of vitamin E.

In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E. Since
most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for
example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating
vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and
they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the
vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon
of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a
day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is
because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed
during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from
white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake.
Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will
make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they
only contribute to a small amount, it will make up for days where intakes are

The Importance Of Teaching Humanities And Arts

My research is about the importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids. Humanities and art can
provide understanding to children opening their minds and after my research, I can say I am in favor
that children learn in early ages humanities and art. In this paper, I will provide both examples why
kids should study them and why not. I will explain how do humanities and art help them to develop
their intelligence and how could not be so beneficially for them as well. Even though some people say
that art classes are a drain on the economy and art educations are considered a distraction and that art
classes do not give children more development in their grades, my research will talk about the
importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids.
I will show first the good part of teaching at and humanities to kids:
Premise 1: Humanities class gives kids sense about where they come from.
Premise 2: Humanities helps kid to develop skills they need to grow up.
Premise 3: Art relaxes your mind.
Premise 4: Art helps kids to express their emotions.
Conclusion: therefore children should be taught humanities I found that my argument is intended to be
deductive, and, later on, I will put a counterargument to explain it: My first premise shows that
humanities help the kids to learn history. Help them to understand about

Rock And Roll Is Important Throughout The History
Rock and roll is so important throughout the history, which always contributes to the story of music,
the public, and the society. It is an indispensable part of music, in which countless famous artists and
bands shine repeatedly. The trace of rock and roll is easily found everywhere in different types of
music, like hip pop. It has allowed artists to speak on political issues and influence government. For
normal people, sometimes rock and roll is like a window, through which people can notice inequality,
darkness but also hope. It becomes everyone s emotions destination and also is able to instigate
campaigns by utilizing their emotions. Rock and roll is woven into the natural fabric of lifestyle. It is
common to find that someone s favorite music is rock and roll. As for fashion, rock and roll elements
are supposed to appear in lots of clothing, decorations, and bags. As a result, I find it necessary and
interesting to meditate about rock and roll itself and its history. During the development of rock and
roll, from its brith to explosion and be mainstream, it has always been influenced by social and culture
changes. Social and culture context plays the key role in the development and evolution of it. To some
extent, the context controls the death of not only rock and roll but also other genres. However, social
and culture changes also promote the division and brith of new types. In turn, each kind of rock and
roll reflects those changes during the last sixty

Plato s Theory Of Recollection
The four arguments that are put forward are; the inverse contention or the cyclical contention, this
hypothesis tries to clarify that the structures we have are unceasing and can t change and the spirit can
never die and it generally brings life. The body is accepted to be mortal and needs to experience the
physical demise however the spirit is not crushed simultaneously. Plato tries to make clear of the
contention by looking at cold and fire. The second argument is otherwise called the theory of
recollection, this hypothesis tries to clarify that human have some knowledge that is non exact sample
of this knowledge is the knowledge during childbirth. This is utilized to show or suggest that possibly
at one time that the soul existed before conception for it to have that information. The thought that we
have dependably had epistemic accessibility. All intellect that we procured in our current lives will be
overlooked when we enter the Form of Transcendence. When we are reborn into our new bodies we
are to recall all the data from the past since our souls never passed on. The third argument is otherwise
called the affinity argument, this theory tries to clarify that what is everlasting and invulnerable things
are altogether different from what is obvious and mortal. Our soul is godlike and our body is mortal
and hence when our bodies pass on, our soul will even now keep on living. The fourth argument of the

Melodrama and Heaven Allows Essay
Both Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Todd Haynes have drawn on Sirk s film melodramas in their
films. Discuss the differences and similarities between their uses of Sirkian melodrama in their films

theoretical debates about these filmmakers s work and theories of melodrama, and you should support
your analysis through close reading of the films
Douglas Sirk, a Danish German film director, is best known for being the father of Melodrama. He is

Williams also states that victim heroes are the focus of melodramas through recognition of the
character s virtue, where the victim s point of view is the main concentration of melodrama. The
protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to empathise
with them (Williams 1998). In Far From Heaven, it is Cathy who is the virtuous individual who
silently suffers to maintain equilibrium within her family and society at large. This is conveyed
throughout the film as each event leads us to Cathy s (the victim) recognition as virtuous through her
suffering (Skvirsky 2008). In the first half of the film, Cathy decides she will do well by her husband
Frank by bringing his dinner to the office as he is working late. Just as she arrives at his office late at
night, Cathy discovers her husband, to her surprise romantically involved with another man. In the
latter part of the film, Frank confronts Cathy. He demands to know whether rumours she had spent the
afternoon with a man of colour, Raymond Deagon are true. Through the course of these events, Cathy

The Murders In The Rue Morgue By Edgar Allen Poe
The definition of a locked room mystery is a subgenre of detective fiction in which a crime almost
always murder is committed under apparently impossible circumstances. The crime in question
typically involves a crime scene that no intruder could have entered or left. Then the question becomes
how could there have been a crime in a room, which an intruder did not enter or leave? The solutions
are quite frankly shocking. The Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Invisible Man are two perfect
stories that depict locked room mysteries, and how locked room mysteries can be solved. The Murders

to do with myself because of my evangelical parents that defined my childhood due to their ideology
and how so many of peers act against their self intrests due to a toxic ideology given to them by the
ruling class. False Consciousness supports my view that the world is filled with many deceived
subgroups that act in False consciousness. This sociological concept allowed me to learn more about
why False Consciousness occurs and strengthened my view of the perceived power that the ruling
class has over working class but the actual untouched power the working class has over the ruling
class. As I grew up I saw how the church created an ideology for my parents that justified its excessive
exploitation of them and how they simply accepted this ideology even though it went against many of
our best intrests. We missed meals on a regular basis because the church demanded 15% of all of our
income when we had very little to give. In the text book it gave an example of medival European
society; the ruling class could promote its interest through the Church . My parents church promoted it
s intrests and my parents simply accpted this ideology that caused major finacial strain on them and on

Frederick Douglass Struggles
There are many children in the world today that hate school and wish they didn t have to go, but years
ago to these two kids school meant everything to them but sadly they couldn t go. One being a black
slave and the other, a blind and deaf girl. As a black slave you would never be allowed to learn
anything, and being blind and deaf, well that s self explanatory. Even though they had those troubles,
they let nothing stop them. Both The Story of My Life and Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass, an American Slave share the central idea of powering through their struggles so they can
gain knowledge, but they do so in different ways. For Helen Keller, the hardest thing in her life was

Helen Keller says, I slip back many times, I fall, I stand still, I run against the edge of hidden
obstacles, I lose my temper and find it again and keep it better, I trudge on, I gain a little, I feel
encouraged, I get more eager and climb higher and begin to see the widening horizon. Every struggle
is a victory. One more effort and I reach the luminous cloud, the blue depths of the sky, the uplands of
my desire, (243). This applies to everyone because you have to fail before you can succeed, and these
two faced some tough challenges but they powered through them and accomplished there goal, which
was getting an education. This matters because they did what you guys may think is impossible. Both
The Story of My Life and Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave share the
central idea of powering through their struggles so they can gain knowledge, but they do so in
different ways. We need to realize that our education means a lot. It means more than having an
iphone, or watching TV. Maynard James Keenan said, If the education of our kids comes from radio,
television, newspapers if that s where they get most of their knowledge from, and not from the
schools, then the powers that be are definitely in charge, because they own all those outlets. We need

Adversity Horace Quote Analysis
Quite often you hear that we do not grow without failure; that failure is what teaches us a new skill
and how to then succeed. I was not familiar with the quote, adversity has the effect of eliciting talents
which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, by Horace, however I think this quote is
true. To me, this means that when someone has some kind of disadvantage, that person can use the
challenge to his advantage through self reflection, determination, and hope. Every person faces an
obstacle, usually many and of various degrees of challenge, and although you cannot control the
situation, you can control your reaction. Those of us that learn from adversity take our time to figure
out how to approach the problem in a new manner. We recognize that one barrier is not a reason to
abandon our course. We think outside the box for how to overcome the challenge. We learn from the
first failure and we regroup for the next approach. Failure teaches you how to define yourself rather
than how others define you. All four of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the cycle of poverty and how it can drown someone. While a better salary would certainly help, we as
a society could learn to be compassionate and empathetic. Ehrenreich s new path of understanding and

Why Are Bail Bonds Important
A bail bonds company is always going to be one of the best resources that you can work with if you
have been arrested, mostly because they can take certain steps to get you released in a short amount of
time. Listed below are just two of the reasons to work with a bail bonds company.
They Can Greatly Minimize The Time That You Spend In Jail
A major reason to work with a bail bonds company is that they can greatly minimize the time that you
spend in jail. In most cases, a bail bonds service will allow you or one of your loved ones to offer
some collateral and pay a minor fee in order to get the bail bonds service to put up the amount of
money that is required to get you out of jail. This can mean that you can get out of jail until your court
date, which can be quite useful because you can use all of that time that ... Show more content on

This is useful because it means that you can go around and spend time with your loved ones and make
arrangements for the caring of your loved ones or your pets or how your property is going to be
looked after before you end up having to report to prison to begin serving your sentence.
They Can Get You Out Of Jail Very Quickly
Another important reason to work with the bail bonds company is to get you out of jail very quickly.
The primary reason for this is that most bail bondsman will always be open and available, which
means that you or one of your loved ones will be able to get you out of jail within a matter of hours.
This can mean that you will be able to get out of jail quickly enough that you can still get to your job
on time, which is very useful because it means that you will not get in trouble and potentially lose
your job over the arrest. In addition, this can help you keep the knowledge that you were arrested to a
minimum as no one will notice anything out of the ordinary when you get out of jail that

Marxism in The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Whoever controls the means of production in society controls the society. (Martin) Marxism can be
used to explain and inspect actions, characters, settings, and ideas in a multitude of texts. In the novel
The Kite Runner written by Khaled Hosseini, the Marxist views on the class system, religion, and the
ownership of goods are prominent and introduce an interesting and captivating perspective to the
story.
The following questions are answered within this essay through the point of view of a Marxist: Should
we die without cause? Who gives a group all of the power? In the Muslim culture, how does the
dominance of money and power prevail? What defines social morality? Do our religious belief give us
power over others? The idea behind social ranking is that one s values as a human are based on the
class one belongs to. In the Afghan culture, there are two main classes: the Hazara and the Pashtun.
Hazaras are Shiite Muslims and Pashtuns are Sunni Muslims. The Pashtuns believe that the Hazaras
are lower people because they are not native to Afghanistan. Amir, the narrator of the novel, is the son
of a wealthy businessman living in the city of Kabul. Amir is a Pashtun. His best friend is the son of
one of his family s servants, a young boy named Hassan. Hassan is a Hazara. Though these two
characters Hosseini is able to identify the subjects of child abuse and suffering in Afghanistan.

Due to her obesity, she struggles with sleep apnea, which is a sleep disordered breathing (SDB),
accompanied by daytime symptoms. Sleep apnea can be divided into two types, central sleep apnea
and obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is not common, and the cause is unknown. Central
sleep apnea is often associated with Cheyne stokes breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is
caused by upper airway obstruction and is mostly associated with snoring, disrupted sleep, excessive
daytime sleepiness, and is the most common type disease (Grossman Porth, 2014). Room 587 has
OSA, which is probably due to her obesity because sleep apnea is associated with obesity. Signs and
symptoms of sleep apnea are loud snoring and labored breathing interrupted by periods of silence that
are soon followed by apnea. Treatment of OSA is based on the severity of the condition. Behavior
measures may be the only treatment necessary, such as weight loss, and proper bed positioning disease
(Grossman Porth, 2014). Since Room 587 is not willing to make an effort to lose weight, then one can
say that she will struggle with this condition for a long time. Another comorbidity that Room 587 has
is a vascular disease, which is similar to PAD. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of PAD, which is
mostly in the vessels of the lower extremities. The popliteal arteries are affected the most, and when

Why Is It Important To Have Rules In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel The Lord of the Flies a group of young boys are stranded on an island after their plane
mysteriously crashes.I believe that William Golding was getting the point that a society cannot
function without a basic set of rules and boundaries . Throughout the book their society does
extremely well when they have leadership and simple laws to keep the boys in place. When Jack
decides to start anarchy and disrupts the balance of their system everything goes to hell. In the time
Ralph was in charge one small boy died on the mountain but it was an accident in the time Jack was in
charge two boys were brutally murdered, this just validates my point that a community can not survive
with no laws or rules.

stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and
most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat
waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (22). I
believe this proves that the conch represents order and government. The glasses on the other hand I
believe that the glasses represent the power of ingenuity and science. Throughout the book the largest
part of innovation and science has been fire. It is everything to the boys they were even will to steal
and lie for it. The glasses are the only real piece of technology on the island. At the point the glasses
were broken it was a symbol for how dumbed down and far away the boys were from

Jason as the Foil of Medea Essay
Jason as the Foil of Medea In Medea, by Euripides, the two main characters Jason and Media are
forced to leave Lolkos and have taken refuge in Corinth. Jason has the possibility of establishing a
position of standing in the community by marrying King Creon s daughter. Medea is enraged by Jason
s betrayal of her and their two children and she vows to stop the marriage and exact revenge. In the
play, Medea and Jason are set up as foils. Medea is completely dependent on the dominance of passion
over reason. She is depicted as conniving, brilliant and powerful. In contrast, Jason is portrayed as a a
character of little feeling; he is passionless, obtuse, witless, and weak. Medea first enters the play and

Later in the play Jason does the reasonable thing and tries to reconcile the problems with Medea. He is
obviously not aware that he has done anything wrong. He feels he has merely done what any man in
his place would do. Through his marriage to the princess he is now the the heir to the throne of
Corinth, which is ultimately something that will benefit Medea and her children. He wants to regain
status for his family and give his children to opportunity to have royal lineage. Jason s plan is to
achieve a better life for himself and bring his children out of poverty. All of this would eventually
benefit Medea, and he does not understand why Medea can not see things his way. QUOTE His
contention is that his plan would have worked out perfectly if Medea had only acted sensibly. He
blames her for crying out for justice and for making threats against the royal family. If she had not
threatened Creon and his daughter, Medea would not be facing exile. Because of Medea s threats,
Creon s animosity spreads to the children and he insists that they all be sent away. Through their entire
conversation Jason does not permit himself to be controlled by passion. He keeps his head clear and
simply lays down the facts. It is not like him to let his feeling free play like Medea does. He is there to
offer her money and a tell her about her place of exile. He explains that it will be painful to see his
children go, but Medea

In relation to the term World Hunger, the word refers to the want or scarcity of food in a country (World Hunger, 2011). In areas of the world, including the United States, where hunger is an issue, malnourishment becomes a very serious concern. Malnutrition is a very basic term referring to the general lack of some or all nutrients needed to support human health. In the early years of life, from approximately ages zero to three, the brain experiences dramatic changes in cognitive, linguistic and psychosocial development which can be dramatically affected by any decrease in the appropriate amount of nutrients to the brain. Children with severe growth retardation secondary to protein energy malnutrition in the post weaning period manifest a striking behavior syndrome that has been well described as torpid, apathetic, inactive, fearful, cheerless, nearly, mute, and anorexic and they lack spontaneity (DeLong, 1993). In 2005 an estimated thirty two percent of all children in developing countries under the age of five, approximately one hundred seventy eight million children, were shown to have stunted growth or low weight for height (Ruel Hoddinott, 2008). In the United States, malnourished children ages three to eight have been shown to have low physical function, poor academic performance, greater weight gain amongst girls and low psychosocial functioning (Ruel Hoddinott, 2008). Malnutrition in the early years can result in a lowered IQ by approximately fifteen points. • 3. 1.1 Explain The Concept Of Safeguarding The concept of safeguarding includes many different factors. A major one of these is family circumstances. When looking at the parents/carers of children, the health of those in charge can be a very important factor when looking at the wellbeing of children. Parents who may be struggling due to their own health problems, either physical or mental, may as a result have difficulty in caring for their own children. In some circumstances, parents/carers may be struggling with substance misuse and drug addiction. This may result in a failure to provide for their childrenâ€TMs needs adequately or even just to provide a safe home environment. Poverty can have very damaging effects upon the health and overall wellbeing of children. Growing up within poverty can mean being cold, hungry and not being able to join in with social activities with their friends. A study by the Child Poverty Action Group, (CPAG), found that 3.5 million children are living in poverty in the UK and that children from low income families are more likely to die at birth, suffer chronic illness during childhood or have a disability. They also found that children living in poverty are almost twice as likely to live in bad, unsuitable housing which has a significant impact upon their physical and mental wellbeing as well as impacting upon their educational progress. (CPAG 2013) When looking at child protection within the wider field of safeguarding, cultural practices need to be taken in to account. There are some cultural practices within some countries that are considered to be a form of exploitation by many international organisations. In some parts of the world, ... • 4. Foster Care And Adoption Is More Common Than Not Children roam around in schools, at work, on the playground, in the malls, and anywhere else a child would like to be. Young children are often accompanied by an adult, of which one would assume to be their parents or primary caregivers. In 2007 forty eight million americans had considered adoption. Foster care has a goal, it is to help children in need be safe for the time being and try to reunited these children with their biological parents. Believe it or not foster care and adoption is more common than not. Many myths go around making children dread the system when in all reality the system is a support system there to help those children in need. Once the child is in a placement with a foster family, their ultimate goal is to provide the child in a safe, loving, nurturing environment until then can be reunified with their parents. These children get use to their foster family, some even grow rather fond of them and are attached, is it right to take away the only family they have ever really truly known? This can cause emotional arousal and distress on the child and the foster family. There are many people in the world who for some reason do have have the ability to have children. This does not mean they should not be a parent or that they cannot be a parent. Many of these families consider being foster parents or even adopting children so they can experience parenthood. Not everyone is meant to be a foster parents, although it is relatively easy to become a foster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Descriptive Essay On A Beach For this assignment I decided to head out to Docweiler Beach near LAX. I love the beach, not so much for going swimming or getting wet but more to lay in the sand and just relax to the soothing sound of the waves, especially nice in this hot weather. I decided to bring my sister for the ride so it s not to lonely and set up around a more deserted part for more concentration and relaxation. I also chose Dockweiler Beach because there I could get a sense of all the 5 ancient elements all in one sitting, with all the elements interacting. Water clashing against the sand to create a calming sound, the wind riding against the waves causes a cool chill down my spine and the man made fire to keep warm. I can feel the earth element in the sand getting in my toes and all over my clothes to later find more in my underwear. The Air element is strong along the beach, getting my hair all over my face as well as making kites fly high. I see the fire element being used to light the bonfires along the beach to keep people warm on the windy beach or to probably make S mores. The water element as I can see is the giant ocean in front of me going as far as I can see with no ending. Another reason I don t like going into the water, the ocean is terrifying especially when you don t know how to swim. Then there is the void element which in this case is me and my mind observing this presence and writing it out in this essay. Officially today there is a total of 118 elements in the periodic table. These ancient four elements originated from the ancient Greeks and then the fifth element aether (void) was added by Aristotle. Before the fifth element the first four elements which were earth, wind, water, and fire, represented to the ancient Greeks as well as modern science the four states of matter. In these 4 states of matter we have solid representing the earth element, liquid representing the water element, gas representing the air element, and plasma representing the fire element. The ancient 5 elements are active is every bodies daily routine schedule. It s something we see every day and don t notice the affects they have on us. Looking more closely to everyday life we have earth. Earth is what we walk on, it has a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Did The Samurai Attack Dbq The sly and flexible samurai prepares to unleash his katana while opponent, the knight rides courteously on his horse ready to pull out his sword that lies within a compartment built in his armor. Who will win this deadly battle? The samurai, of course thanks to his agility as well as being ready to attack whenever threatened. This essay will discuss the advantages that the samurai has against the knight, if the two were to ever come in contact on the battlefield. One of the ways that Samurais have an advantage against knights is due to their armor. In document D, written by Terry Bennett, it says The helmet bowl (of a samurai) was made of 8 12 iron plates. The samurai very much needed this because it was said and proven to be true that a knight s sword could slice through one s head and only be stopped by the teeth of a human. Another piece of evidence that supports my claim is in document D as well. The text states Samurai did not wear armor on their right arm so they could easily draw their bow. This was a major advantage to the samurai because they needed to have the ability to draw back their bow and aim at their target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another piece of evidence that supports my claim is found in document C1, as well. The text states In their schooling, they had physical training and learned poetry and spiritual discipline. • 9. John Steinbeck Light And Darkness Essay Light and darkness are two polar opposites. Light is like hope, and darkness is like sadness, or trouble. John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men uses these elements in his book to portray the hope, sadness and the immediate change between these two feelings, to advise the reader about the conflicts that migrant workers experienced while working on the ranch. John Steinbeck uses the elements of light, darkness, and the immediate change between the two to portray the hope, sadness, and the sudden change of feelings, that happens to the ranch workers in this book. This quote occurs when Carlson is taking Candy s dog out to shoot it. The darkness that Carlson leads the dog into is foreshadowing the darkness that would soon be occurring to the ranch workers, especially George and Lennie. John Steinbeck uses the element of darkness to foreshadow the troubling times that come and go for the ranch workers. John Steinbeck uses the quick change of sunlight to darkness throughout the book, to portray the sudden changes of happiness to sadness that the workers experience while on the ranch. One example of this quick change is Both men glanced up, for the rectangle of sunshine in the doorway was cut off (Steinbeck 15). This quote happens right as Curley s wife is entering the room to meet George and Lennie. This shows the quick change between light and darkness because before Curley s wife entered the room, there was sunlight shining throughout the room, but as soon as she entered the room, the sunlight was blocked out, which is a sign that George and Lennie should stay away from Curley s wife, because she could cause trouble. • 10. Let There Be Light Since the Razzo screening of this week consists of multiple movies. I would like to divide my response into two parts. The first part focuses on the key qualities that make Let There Be Light such an iconic documentary and also the source of its supression by the government. The second part focuses on the experimental films: Meshes of the Afternoon, Fireworks, and Rose Hobart. Let There Be Light stood out in the documentary genre firstly because of its reliance on unscripted interviews. It is mentioned in the article that some thousand hours was spent on footage that would meaningfully make up a 1 hour documentary. All of the interviews are exemplary of showing the narrative the documentary was trying to convey: how war affected the soldier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meshes of the Afternoon is the most visually appealing one. Mentioned in the article, the film has a sort of rhythm that is symbolic in most of Deren s movies. It deals a lot with identities and identifications, like the scene of multiple instances of the protagonist, or the scene with the hooded man with a reflective face. Here, I interpreted the scene as that there were a lot of side to the protagonist and the mirror is to reflect into self, which later on in the movie we can see that in the reflection is the husband. Also dreamlike in narrative is Fireworks, which was basically considered to be within the post war avant garde genre in the article. This short, primarily a comedy, has a lot of sexual inuendos embeded into the visual coding. It portrays that the protagonist is in search for fullfilment and sexual satisfaction within the depths of his conscience. The article mentioned about the not so subtle imagery and symbolism in the film , with the aforementioned pyrotechnic phallus, the river of milk standing in for semen . The third short is a montage, which is a brilliant one with concentrated but dreamlike and open to interpretion narrative, with all the footage from East of Borneo. Surrealism is achieved once the narrative of the East of Borneo, with all of its drama, is stripped off to become something more mysterious and less revealing. And with the soundtrack, the blue tint, the image of the solar eclipse and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of My Dietary Intake Analysis of My Dietary Intake Mingyang Hou Queens University 10211370 From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake should be 15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will analyze the reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E. Since most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake. Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they only contribute to a small amount, it will make up for days where intakes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Teaching Humanities And Arts Teaching Children the Arts and Humanities Jenry Martin PHI103: Informal Logic Instructor: Stephen Krogh March 7, 2016 Ashford University My research is about the importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids. Humanities and art can provide understanding to children opening their minds and after my research, I can say I am in favor that children learn in early ages humanities and art. In this paper, I will provide both examples why kids should study them and why not. I will explain how do humanities and art help them to develop their intelligence and how could not be so beneficially for them as well. Even though some people say that art classes are a drain on the economy and art educations are considered a distraction and that art classes do not give children more development in their grades, my research will talk about the importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids. I will show first the good part of teaching at and humanities to kids: Premise 1: Humanities class gives kids sense about where they come from. Premise 2: Humanities helps kid to develop skills they need to grow up. Premise 3: Art relaxes your mind. Premise 4: Art helps kids to express their emotions. Conclusion: therefore children should be taught humanities I found that my argument is intended to be deductive, and, later on, I will put a counterargument to explain it: My first premise shows that humanities help the kids to learn history. It is an indispensable part of music, in which countless famous artists and bands shine repeatedly. The trace of rock and roll is easily found everywhere in different types of music, like hip pop. It has allowed artists to speak on political issues and influence government. For normal people, sometimes rock and roll is like a window, through which people can notice inequality, darkness but also hope. It becomes everyone s emotions destination and also is able to instigate campaigns by utilizing their emotions. Rock and roll is woven into the natural fabric of lifestyle. It is common to find that someone s favorite music is rock and roll. As for fashion, rock and roll elements are supposed to appear in lots of clothing, decorations, and bags. As a result, I find it necessary and interesting to meditate about rock and roll itself and its history. During the development of rock and roll, from its brith to explosion and be mainstream, it has always been influenced by social and culture changes. Social and culture context plays the key role in the development and evolution of it. To some extent, the context controls the death of not only rock and roll but also other genres. The protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to empathise with them (Williams 1998). The Murders In The Rue Morgue By Edgar Allen Poe The definition of a locked room mystery is a subgenre of detective fiction in which a crime almost always murder is committed under apparently impossible circumstances. False consciousness acording to the text book is a condition in which people, usually in groups that are relatively powerless, accept beliefs that work against their own self interests. False consciousness has to do with myself because of my evangelical parents that defined my childhood due to their ideology and how so many of peers act against their self intrests due to a toxic ideology given to them by the ruling class. False Consciousness supports my view that the world is filled with many deceived subgroups that act in False consciousness. This sociological concept allowed me to learn more about why False Consciousness occurs and strengthened my view of the perceived power that the ruling class has over working class but the actual untouched power the working class has over the ruling class. As I grew up I saw how the church created an ideology for my parents that justified its excessive exploitation of them and how they simply accepted this ideology even though it went against many of our best intrests. We missed meals on a regular basis because the church demanded 15% of all of our income when we had very little to give. I was not familiar with the quote, adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, by Horace, however I think this quote is true. To me, this means that when someone has some kind of disadvantage, that person can use the challenge to his advantage through self reflection, determination, and hope. Every person faces an obstacle, usually many and of various degrees of challenge, and although you cannot control the situation, you can control your reaction. Those of us that learn from adversity take our time to figure out how to approach the problem in a new manner. We recognize that one barrier is not a reason to abandon our course.
