How Disney Has Changed Their Perception Of Their Business...
When people think of Disney, the think of living in a fairytale and a day they will never forget,
however there are many factors that Disney has to consider for this to be true. Disney has to do
analysis including numerous factors before make their enormous financial decisions. Over their
course in business, Disney has made several costly mistakes that changed their perception of
their business ideas. When Disney decides to build a new location they must take every factor
into consideration. Even when they believe they have covered all the bases, in reality there is no
way to be completely sure in how things will turn out in the future. One example is EuroDisney
and their poor performance. Disney initially believed they built a true masterpiece. They believed
the new location would be just like the Tokyo park; which was a rare example. Furthermore,
Disney was over optimistic in how successful their locations could be compared to Tokyo.
However, they were sadly mistakenin reality. Their creation of EuroDisney was a huge flop,
contrary to the extensive research they left out key factors that destroyed their success. They
disregarded key factors such as competition, cultural differences and environment; these factors
were key to their failure. If Disney would have came in with a different mindset, these factors would
have been taken into consideration. As a result, there would have been gigantic changes in their
marketing strategy. Furthermore there were similar mistakes

Lydia Davis And Marge Piercy
The human species is strange. And it is very hard for one to understand another, yet it is harder
for a human to understand oneself. Lydia Davis and Marge Piercy use Head, Heart and Barbie
Doll to express to readers two different internal struggles that people have. Davis and Piercy both
use strong diction to express the internal fights that humanity has within themselves. Both Davis
and Piercy also use free verse to tell their poems and to get their point across. In Head, Heart ,
Lydia Davis gets right to the point with her poem. Her poem is only ten lines long but in those ten
lines she uses short sentences and multiple forms of punctuation. In Head, Heart , Davis writes
about the internal fight between the speakers heart and the speakers head. Davis uses metonymy in
her writing. The head to portray reason and the heart to portray emotion. She writes about how the
head is trying to comfort the broken heart by telling the heart that there will be others and that You
will lose the ones you love. (Davis line 4) The writer uses a conflict between emotion and reason....

In Barbie Doll , the speaker is fighting herself with accepting who she really is versus who
society wants her to be. Piercy uses exaggerated diction and is very sarcastic with her writing.
This shows readers that it is a silly thing to feel so unaccepted because of physical appearance
but the reality of it is that these things do actually happen to people. And this is a major issue in
society as a whole. The writer tells a story of a girl who is born just like any other girl but grows
into this body that is so unaccepted by

The Rap Song By Tupac Amaru Shakur Essay
Social inequality issues can be revealed by different kinds of artworks such as literature and
songs. One of the most famous hip hop artists Tupac Amaru Shakur (Stage Name 2Pac), who
experienced shooting and incarceration, produced most of his songs which revolved around
controversial issues such as crime, drug and racial discrimination in the inner cities in America
society in the 1990s. The rap song Changes that was released in 1988, two years after Tupac s
death, reflected the social discrimination towards African Americanunder the aspects of racial
prejudice and crimes. The lyric of the song demonstrated the concept of Underclass stereotype
towards African Americans by Abelmann and Lie, and Wilson realistically, which provided a more
comprehensive explanation for understanding Pager s argument of the negative influence of the
interaction of raceand crime towards black people.
Although the song was released two years after Tupac s death, Changes was one of the most
important songs that remarked his legendary life. As a rapper singer with the highest sales before
1997 according to the Guinness Book of Records, Tupac was actively concerned about the harsh
living environment of the black slums and tried to improve the condition of poverty by singing
sound voluntarily to raise money. Since Tupac focused mainly on social inequalities towards
African Americans, Changes revealed the phenomenal of Police brutality, sustained poverty and

Edmund Burke Codebreakers Essay

Red Embers During World War II, gifted codebreakers in Hut 8, a division in the Government
Code and Cypher School, decrypted the German U Boat codes, shortening the war by an
estimated two years and saving approximately 14 million lives (Cashill). The decisions that the
codebreakers made were cold, logical, and difficult to make, but the amount of lives they saved
was well worth the effort. Normal people also face tough decisions in their lives, one of them being
stepping in or standing on the sidelines, and they have their own thoughts on the responses

For instance, in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, when Cassie, a 9 year old
black girl, is in Strawberry with her grandma, she bumps into Lillian Jean, a white girl, and
Lillian Jean s dad orders Cassie to call his daughter Miz Lillian Jean (71). When Cassie does, she
[flees] crying into the back of the wagon and feels that no day in all [her] life [has] ever been as
cruel as this one (71). Cassie is mentally wounded through her traumatizing experience of being
insulted and forced to call a white girl by Miz, an honorific normally reserved for mature
women. During the encounter, Big Ma responds to Cassie s objections with a cold, Say it, child,
proving evil s triumph is a consequence of inaction (71). Moreover, according to The New York

Walt Disney Captain Of Industry Essay
Mickey Mouse may be an iconic figure. However, history has shown that Walt Disney may have
actually been a rat. Building his empire of The Wonderful World of Disney does not qualify him
to be a captain of industry. By definition, a captain of industry is one with positive integrity.
Whereas, a robber baron is motivated by greed. As Disney began his ascent, he was like the
Pharaoh in his Prince of Egypt production. Believing the end justified the means, Disney plowed
over employees, considering their livelihood as part of collateral damage. Disney was a robber
baron with a pernicious temper, who harshly controlled employees, and ruled his cast members by
intimidation. Although Walt Disney was known to the public as generous and gentle,... Show more

The production Snow White alone produced ...over $8 million during its release about $130
million today. (Source F). Without the talent and skills of his animators, Walt Disney would not
have been able to gather this amount of proceeds. Disney could afford to treat his animators with
greater respect as reflected in their paychecks. A captain of industry helps create jobs. As would
follow with all of Disney s financial success, did that make him a captain of industry? Disney
may have opened a variety of job opportunities for the public, but it did not necessarily qualify
him as a captain of industry. Just as a sweat factory employed its unhappy workers, many Disney
employees felt similar oppression. This led to the rally call of a strike. The day of the strike,

employees. Their strike was effective, and it gave workers the chance to be paid more, and to be

Using the ethanol as the solvent produces a more environmentally favorable conditions, and the
bleach combined with sodium iodide produces an efficient and selective (mono ) product. Once the
final product had been recrystallized with isopropanol, the crystal were collected via vacuum

Fighting Stereotypes Of Asian Americans
Fighting Stereotypes of Asian Americans in the Media According to the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention website in 2013 Asians made up for 4.8 percent of Americas population
with 14.7 million individuals. That population is expected to increase to 40.6 million, or 9.2
percent of American population by the year 2050 and consist of over 30 different ethnicities.
Teresa Mok of Purdue University stated in 1998 that Despite their increasing numbers and
heterogeneity, little reflection of the diversity within Asian America is seen in mass media images
(p. 186). In addition to a lack of ethnic diversity often times Asian Americans are left out of film
and television altogether. Media Action Network for Asian Americans (2015) recently criticized
Sony pictures for their white washed movie Aloha. Even though the film is set in Hawaiithe
majority of the cast is white with very little representation of Asian Americans or Pacific Islanders.
MANAA (2015) Founding President Guy Aoki said, 60% of Hawaii s population is AAPIs,
Caucasians only make up thirty percent of the population, but from watching this film, you d think
they made up ninety percent (n.p.). While unsuccessful in representing the ethnic diversity of Asian
Americans, or not representing them at all, the dominant group controlled media has been
successful in portraying them in very stereotypical manners.
Since first immigrating into the United States, Asian communities have lived under stereotypes.

The Power Of Context By Malcolm Gladwell
The human subconscious is one of the easiest things to manipulate. Companies do it all the time by
continuously raising their levee exposure repeatedly by advertising constantly. Much like
companies, educational institutions and societal systems influence the human subconscious in the
same way, just with a strong less recognizable form of advertising. These institutions and systems
use social stigma. In Malcolm Gladwell s the Power of Context the power of social stigma is
shown by how context effects a situation, And in Karen Ho she identify the social stigma of being
elite and getting a higher education. Societal stigma is the way of the system (society) to advertise

The term seemed fundamental to the Wall Street lexicon. (Ho 166). When students see these
recruiters, it portrays affluence and elitism in someone who is a similar age to them. It makes
the students think that you don t need to be the oldest investment banker to have the most skill
or money, and Wall Street solidifies this image by sending someone who is young and affluent.
Sooner or later what happens is that a lot of people say, look, some of the best and brightest
people are going to Wall Street. I m pretty smart myself; i should go [there] as well, and by the
way ill get paid very well (Ho 167). This is not inherently wrong but the institution of Wall Street is
manipulating the student to think that the smartest way to go is Wall Street and that anyother path
to elitism is either harder, or wrong. They are sending the message if you are smart come to Wall
Street or you are wasting your potential . This physiological warfare is not the only way institutions
like wall street manipulate the individual. Like the how the Broken Glass theory works Wall Street
and other institutions manipulate individuals through sheer numbers. For example, at the 2006

Distrust In Police
In recent years, society has heard cases of police brutality at an increasingly shocking rate, thus
creating a sense of distrust among communities towards police officers and other authority
figures. As the first line of defense against crimes such as home invasions or crimes against
persons, police officers are expected to be an ally towards victims; however, it seems that society
is now viewing officers as the perpetrators of crimes as opposed to the protectors. This has already
posed an issue because community members are choosing not to seek policehelp when needed, and
when they do decide to seek help, forgoing police assistance results in being uncertain of where
else to go.

Brown (2004) said that it is essential that police officials adjust their polices and practices to

that police help educate immigrants about U.S. laws and the role of police, and believes that
serving a diverse society requires police to interact with minorities in a respectful manner while
also seeking their input on local problems. Overall, Brown touts the option of community policing
and shows that he is in favor of integrating the police into the community in order to create deeper
bonds with citizens and form a sense of trust. In various studies, community policing has been
shown to effectively increase positive relations between citizens and the police; when people begin
feeling like they can trust the police, they are more likely to help the authorities out by offering

Aspects Of The Origin Of Ma
Aspects of the origin of MA
Literature on management accounting origin split in to two completely different categories. One
that explains the development through what is called economic approach and the second through
non economic approach.
Economic approach
First signs of management accounting emerged as tool of cost control in early 19th century. This is
when many businesses were simply made up of a group of people who specialised in certain
individual areas. Production and supply of raw materials was completely separate at that time.
These small businesses were therefore easy and straight forward to manage. The manufacturer
would simply determine how much would materials cost and add the cost of work, which is
generally evaluating the time that it takes to produce a certain good and set a monetary value. A
dramatic wind of change to this was seen during the Industrial Revolution. Businesses became
bigger and more complex. Perfect examples could be such as cotton textile factories in England or
cotton mills in United States of America. Now instead of individual craftsmen, businesses became
big hierarchical enterprises. According to Johnson and Kaplan (1987) this was the emerging point
of modern management accounting.
Further advancement was noticed in the 19th century: The emergence and rapid growth of railways
in the mid nineteenth century was another major driving force in the development of management
accounting systems. New measures, such as cost per ton per mile,

Abstract
The Sciurus carolinensis is better known as the eastern gray squirrel that prefers to live in the
temperate deciduous forest. This squirrel has a color variation and are medium in size; their
appearance may be similar to other tree squirrels. The life cycle is: baby, child, adolescent, adult,
depending on how long they survive in the wild can be up to 8 12 years. The Sciuridae respiratory
system is much like other mammals or humans, just smaller scale. These rodents are geographically
adaptable to their surroundings, as they have been around for millions of years. They communicate
with their tails and even though born toothless, their teeth grow constantly. The Sciurus carolinensis

Essay on American Education in the 1800 s
American Education in the 1800 s
In the early 1800 s education in America grew and developed rapidly, largely because of the works
of three very important men: Noah Webster, William McGuffey, and Horace Mann. These three
men were catalysts for the growth of education throughout the nineteenth century, and without them
the large strides America took during this time would not have occurred. These great men all shared
one goal: to educate the youth of America as well as possible. This was no small task, however,
because the educational system in place was disorganized and had several large problems that had
to be overcome.
The task of correcting the many problems that faced education in the early 1800 s required the
genius of many men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book was such a success that it was used in classrooms for almost one hundred years
(www.ctstateu.edu). Noah Webster s greatest accomplishment was writing the first truly American
dictionary. The book took more than 27 years to complete, and among the nearly 70,000 words
featured in it were truly American words, such as skunk and chowder (www.christianlaw.com). This
book was the work of a lifetime for Webster, and his name is now nearly synonymous with any
modern American dictionary.
Another great contributor to the spread of American educational tools was William McGuffey,
author of the widely spread series, Peerless Pioneer Readers. This series of writings was used in
every state of the Union and had a very obvious effect on students in American schools
(lib.muohio.edu). Along with creating such influential educational tools, McGuffey also taught at
several prestigious institutions of higher learning, such as Ohio University and Miami University
(www.hfmgv.org). With such a widespread influence caused by not only his educational series but
his teaching across the Midwest, it s no surprise that McGuffey is considered one of the instigators
of the rapid improvement of the educational system in America.
The man with the greatest effect on the government s relationship with schools is Horace Mann.
Often called the Father of American Education, Horace Mann wasn t

Natural History Museum s Eternal Life In Ancient Egypt
Over the weekend, I chose to examine and analyze the Natural History Museum s exhibit Eternal
Life in Ancient Egypt . The exhibit contained many artifacts and visual representations of what and
why Egyptians performed mummification. Whilst visually entertaining and generally informative,
there did not seem to be a discussion of multiple interpretations on the significance for each object.
The speculative nature of these statements coupled with an often lacking of archaeological
evidence backing up these claims created more questions than answers. However, the exhibit did a
great job describing and informing of the science required for the analysis as well as informative
background explanations for these artifacts. With clear and concise details... Show more content on

With a mummified boy on display, the exhibit explains that the embalmers preserved the body by
shrouding it in a sheet of linen instead of elaborate layers of fabric strips meaning that this is a
commoner s body (Smithsonian). The captions also state that the placement of the arms and chin
on chest reflect mummification practices from about 2,000 years ago (Smithsonian). Accompanied
by images showing the process of unraveling the boy mummy, this section of the exhibit
successfully explains social hierarchy in Egypt and the mummification procedure in an informative
manner. The exhibit also informs how advances in radiographic imaging allow for scientists to
analyze mummies without damaging their fragile remains or wrappings (Smithsonian). Again,
images of the radiographs and processes of attaining them accompany this statement which contains
valuable information since it is always important to know how the museum and scientists preserve

What Is The Theme Of Her First Ball By Katherine Mansfield
The short story Her first ball is written by Katherine Mansfield, a prominent modernist writer from
New Zealand. The short story was first published in the Weekly Westminster Gazette, then later
included in her third collection of short stories, The Garden Party and Other Stories. Her first ball
centers on young Leila who has moved from the countryside to the city and is attending her first
ball along with her cousins.
Considering Mansfield wrote the short story in the early 1920s, and also bearing in mind that
dances such as the one included in Her first ball were common among the bourgeois youth at this
time, it is fair to assume Mansfield meant for the short story to be set in the then contemporary time.
The plot of the short story unfolds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leila moves from up country to the city, meets new people and takes on a new role as a ball
participant. She has likely turned 18 recently and is transitioning into adulthood.
The old man, a sore reminder of Leila s future, attends dances without shame. When Leila
remarks that it is inspiring for him to still be going on, he tells her that she has no chance of
lasting as long. ( [...] long before that you ll be sitting up there on the stage, looking on, in your
nice black velvet. And these pretty arms will have turned into little short fat ones, and you ll beat
time with such a different kind of fan a black bony one. . This introduces a fourth theme: gender
roles. Though it is possible for him, as a man, to continue dancing for as long as he would like to,
she cannot make that choice.
Her first ball is a short story that deals with coming of age, new beginnings, facades in the upper
class, and gender roles in the 1920s. Katherine Mansfield uses many symbols to get her message
through: it is not necessarily wrong to see the world through the eyes of a child every once in a
while, and you should enjoy the moment even though there will inevitably be an end to it.

Taking a Look at Cochlear Implants
Sometimes people forget that eyesight and hearing are not something that everybody has. There
are some people in the world that are living without one or both of these senses. In some
circumstances, these two senses are able to be given to somebody who hasn t had them before.
There are many different procedures and ways for a person to either gain their eyesight or hearing
again, for the first time in their life. In terms of hearing, there is a procedure that is booming
popularity all over the world. Along with having the surgery, the patient then wears a device called
a cochlear implant. Cochlear Implants are changing the world of hearing so that people who
receive them are able to gain hearing ability to sounds around them. This partially unknown
medical procedure is gaining more attention around the world with its high success rates and its
ability to change peoples lives forever. According to the National Institute on Deafness and
Other Communication Disorders Website, a cochlear implant is defined as a small, complex
electronic device that can help provide a sense of sound to someone who is profoundly deaf or
severely hard of hearing. The first cochlear implant demonstration was in Paris in the 1950 s done
by AndrГ© Djourno and Charles EryiГ©s. Records say that it took over 50 years of discovering
and making these devices until one succeeded. Once they had built one that worked, Djourno and

An Analysis Of Don Mozart s Opera Buffa
In his opera buffa, Don Giovanni, Mozart depicts Don Giovanni as a libertine and philanderer. At
the start of Act I, Scene III of the opera, there is a festive peasant wedding, an ensemble between
the bride, Zerlina, the groom, Masetto, and the chorus, which consists of the other peasants, all
singing about the joys of marriage. Don Giovanni, a nobleman, and his manservant, Leporello,
interrupts the wedding, and invites everyone to his villa. He even forces Masetto to go the villa
too, leaving Zerlina alone with Don Giovanni. Before leaving, Masetto protests, but understands
that he has no control over the situation. Then, Masetto sings an aria, Ho Capito, which means I
understand, before leaving. Alone with Zerlina, in recitative, Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and
promises to marry her. Shortly after he sings that they will be married, an ensemble between Don
Giovanni and Zerlina starts, in which Zerlina reveals that she would be happy to marry him but
fears that Don Giovanni is deceiving her. The duet ends with Don Giovanni appearing to succeed
with his scheme. Three versions of the opera, the first conducted by Craig Smith and directed by
Peter Sellars in Vienna in 1990, the second conducted by Colin Davis and directed by John
Vernon in the Royal Opera House in London in 1998, and the third conducted by Nicholas
Harnencourt and directed by Brian Large in the Zurich Opera House in 2001 mostly have the same

How to Calculate Beta
How to Calculate Beta Beta refers to the volatility of a particular stock compared against the
volatility of the entire stock market or, in practice, a representative index of that market, such as
the Standard and Poor s (S amp;P) 500. Beta is an indicator of how risky a particular stock is and
is used to evaluate its expected rate of return. Beta is one of the fundamentals stock analysts
consider when choosing stocks for their portfolios, along with price to earnings ratio, shareholder
s equity, debt to equity ratio and other factors. Here s how to calculate beta and use beta to figure
an expected rate of return. Steps Calculating Beta for a Stock 1. 1... Show more content on

If the stock s rate of return is 7 percent and the risk free rate is 2 percent, the difference would be
5 percent. 4. 4 Subtract the risk free rate from the market (or index) rate of return. If the market
or index rate of return is 8 percent and the risk free rate is again 2 percent, the difference would
be 6 percent. 5. 5 Divide the difference in the stock s return rate minus the risk free rate by the
market (or index) rate of return minus the risk free rate. This is the beta, which is typically
expressed as a decimal value. In the example above, the beta would be 5 divided by 6, or 0.833.
* The beta of the market itself, or its representative index, is by definition 1.0, as the market is
being compared against itself and any nonzero number divided by itself equals 1. A beta less
than 1 means that the stock is less volatile than the market as a whole, while a beta greater than 1
means the stock is more volatile than the market as a whole. The beta value can be less than zero,
meaning either that the stock is losing money while the market as a whole is gaining (more likely)
or that the stock is gaining while the market as a whole is losing money (less likely). * When
figuring beta, it is common, though not required, to

The Irish Declaration Of Independence
The cartoon above is called The Irish Declaration of Independence that We Are Familiar With
published in 1883 by Frederick Burr Opper. Opper is regarded as one of the pioneers of American
newspaper comic strips, best known for his comic strip Happy Hooligan. His comic characters
were featured in magazine gag cartoons, covers, political cartoons and comic strips for six decades.
The magazinethis cartoonis featured in was called Puck Magazine. Puck Magazine was America s
first successful humor magazine, which is to say it was long lived (1876 1918), influential, and
quite prosperous. It published three large color cartoons in each issue, which for the first ten years
or so were all political in nature. Later they were increasingly purely comic or illustrative. At Puck s
height, the cartoons were among the country s most important political pronouncements of the
week. In addition to that, Puck played a critical role in the evolution of American humor, moving
the art from its tall tales and dialect laden roots toward the more urbane and literary humor
associated with magazines like the New Yorker.
While this cartoon is based in America the prejudice against Irish natives and immigrants had long
been in issue. Over the centuries Ireland has dealt with conquerors, loss of culture, poverty, hunger
and political strife. The emerald isle was entirely conquered and colonized by the British in the
second part of the sixteenth century. After the colonization Ireland s inhabitants

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Verse 12
What is the appropriate understanding of verse 12? Is the metaphor saying a destruction but a
small part of it will be rescued to indicate there is still hope for just the remaining? The
commentary helps me to understand it clearly. It says that it signifies a new oracle whose image
offer a macabre sense of hope (p.294). It means rescue may be part of Gods intension but this
rescue provides little confidence to those who pause to hear what is genuinely saying. It means
the remnant of Samaria will only remain. Here Amos does not say who is like the lion and the
commentary has no further comment. I believe the lion is probably refers to God as in verse 3:8.

How verse 4:13 relates to 4:12? The commentary helps me to confirm my speculation that the

people back to the covenant relationship. The commentary allows me to know that verse 13 is a
doxology with themes to show Yahweh has the power to create and has power to destroy it. It
points out this doxology coincides with the imagery of the destruction of Samara in 9:1 with the
shaking/shattering of the sanctuary threshold, a judgment that results in the death of the people of
the northern kingdom (p. 307). It helps me to see to understand this means no one can stand in front

Some states have already started making progress in modeling and developing early learning
systems for children zero to age five. According to the Whitehouse (2011), The President s 2012

families. The administration supports a newly designed technical assistance program that brings
both current and best practice evidence informed practices for local programs. They also support
the local programs working with their local school systems to be educated on the skills that children

the language barrier and help achieve the language gap. To continue these ongoing resolutions,
congress recently enacted programs that support various neighborhoods. The implementation of

  • 3. Lydia Davis And Marge Piercy The human species is strange. And it is very hard for one to understand another, yet it is harder for a human to understand oneself. Lydia Davis and Marge Piercy use Head, Heart and Barbie Doll to express to readers two different internal struggles that people have. Davis and Piercy both use strong diction to express the internal fights that humanity has within themselves. Both Davis and Piercy also use free verse to tell their poems and to get their point across. In Head, Heart , Lydia Davis gets right to the point with her poem. Her poem is only ten lines long but in those ten lines she uses short sentences and multiple forms of punctuation. In Head, Heart , Davis writes about the internal fight between the speakers heart and the speakers head. Davis uses metonymy in her writing. The head to portray reason and the heart to portray emotion. She writes about how the head is trying to comfort the broken heart by telling the heart that there will be others and that You will lose the ones you love. (Davis line 4) The writer uses a conflict between emotion and reason.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas, a robber baron is motivated by greed. As Disney began his ascent, he was like the Pharaoh in his Prince of Egypt production. As would follow with all of Disney s financial success, did that make him a captain of industry? Disney may have opened a variety of job opportunities for the public, but it did not necessarily qualify him as a captain of industry. • 19. Aspects Of The Origin Of Ma Aspects of the origin of MA Literature on management accounting origin split in to two completely different categories. One that explains the development through what is called economic approach and the second through non economic approach. Economic approach First signs of management accounting emerged as tool of cost control in early 19th century. This is when many businesses were simply made up of a group of people who specialised in certain individual areas. Production and supply of raw materials was completely separate at that time. These small businesses were therefore easy and straight forward to manage. The manufacturer would simply determine how much would materials cost and add the cost of work, which is generally evaluating the time that it takes to produce a certain good and set a monetary value. A dramatic wind of change to this was seen during the Industrial Revolution. Businesses became bigger and more complex. Perfect examples could be such as cotton textile factories in England or cotton mills in United States of America. Now instead of individual craftsmen, businesses became big hierarchical enterprises. According to Johnson and Kaplan (1987) this was the emerging point of modern management accounting. Further advancement was noticed in the 19th century: The emergence and rapid growth of railways in the mid nineteenth century was another major driving force in the development of management accounting systems. • 31. An Analysis Of Don Mozart s Opera Buffa In his opera buffa, Don Giovanni, Mozart depicts Don Giovanni as a libertine and philanderer. At the start of Act I, Scene III of the opera, there is a festive peasant wedding, an ensemble between the bride, Zerlina, the groom, Masetto, and the chorus, which consists of the other peasants, all singing about the joys of marriage. Don Giovanni, a nobleman, and his manservant, Leporello, interrupts the wedding, and invites everyone to his villa. He even forces Masetto to go the villa too, leaving Zerlina alone with Don Giovanni. Before leaving, Masetto protests, but understands that he has no control over the situation. Then, Masetto sings an aria, Ho Capito, which means I understand, before leaving. Alone with Zerlina, in recitative, Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and promises to marry her. Shortly after he sings that they will be married, an ensemble between Don Giovanni and Zerlina starts, in which Zerlina reveals that she would be happy to marry him but fears that Don Giovanni is deceiving her. The duet ends with Don Giovanni appearing to succeed with his scheme. Three versions of the opera, the first conducted by Craig Smith and directed by Peter Sellars in Vienna in 1990, the second conducted by Colin Davis and directed by John Vernon in the Royal Opera House in London in 1998, and the third conducted by Nicholas Harnencourt and directed by Brian Large in the Zurich Opera House in 2001 mostly have the same libretto for this scene and depict a similar disparity in ... • 35. How to Calculate Beta How to Calculate Beta Beta refers to the volatility of a particular stock compared against the volatility of the entire stock market or, in practice, a representative index of that market, such as the Standard and Poor s (S amp;P) 500. Beta is an indicator of how risky a particular stock is and is used to evaluate its expected rate of return. Beta is one of the fundamentals stock analysts consider when choosing stocks for their portfolios, along with price to earnings ratio, shareholder s equity, debt to equity ratio and other factors. Here s how to calculate beta and use beta to figure an expected rate of return. Steps Calculating Beta for a Stock 1. 1... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the stock s rate of return is 7 percent and the risk free rate is 2 percent, the difference would be 5 percent. 4. 4 Subtract the risk free rate from the market (or index) rate of return. If the market or index rate of return is 8 percent and the risk free rate is again 2 percent, the difference would be 6 percent. 5. 5 Divide the difference in the stock s return rate minus the risk free rate by the market (or index) rate of return minus the risk free rate. This is the beta, which is typically expressed as a decimal value. In the example above, the beta would be 5 divided by 6, or 0.833. * The beta of the market itself, or its representative index, is by definition 1.0, as the market is being compared against itself and any nonzero number divided by itself equals 1. A beta less than 1 means that the stock is less volatile than the market as a whole, while a beta greater than 1 means the stock is more volatile than the market as a whole. The beta value can be less than zero, meaning either that the stock is losing money while the market as a whole is gaining (more likely) or that the stock is gaining while the market as a whole is losing money (less likely). * When figuring beta, it is common, though not required, to ... His comic characters were featured in magazine gag cartoons, covers, political cartoons and comic strips for six decades. The magazinethis cartoonis featured in was called Puck Magazine. Puck Magazine was America s first successful humor magazine, which is to say it was long lived (1876 1918), influential, and quite prosperous. It published three large color cartoons in each issue, which for the first ten years or so were all political in nature. Later they were increasingly purely comic or illustrative. At Puck s height, the cartoons were among the country s most important political pronouncements of the week. In addition to that, Puck played a critical role in the evolution of American humor, moving the art from its tall tales and dialect laden roots toward the more urbane and literary humor associated with magazines like the New Yorker. While this cartoon is based in America the prejudice against Irish natives and immigrants had long been in issue. Is the metaphor saying a destruction but a small part of it will be rescued to indicate there is still hope for just the remaining? The commentary helps me to understand it clearly. It says that it signifies a new oracle whose image offer a macabre sense of hope (p.294). It means rescue may be part of Gods intension but this rescue provides little confidence to those who pause to hear what is genuinely saying. It means the remnant of Samaria will only remain. Here Amos does not say who is like the lion and the commentary has no further comment. I believe the lion is probably refers to God as in verse 3:8. The commentary allows me to know that verse 13 is a doxology with themes to show Yahweh has the power to create and has power to destroy it. It points out this doxology coincides with the imagery of the destruction of Samara in 9:1 with the shaking/shattering of the sanctuary threshold, a judgment that results in the death of the people of the northern kingdom (p. 307). Figure 3 These results were not very significant as the number of indices recorded was 3 and 3 for group 2012 and 2015 respectively. Consequently, the graph ended up having enormous error bars, which only further indicated that we cannot conclude much from this graph even though the treatment group seemed to have a higher diversity index. In real ecosystems the Shannon s diversity index often averages between 1.5 and 3.5. Our index was lower even though the ground cover seems fairly diverse as it is not uniformly diverse.
