Cory Mature In Boy s Life
It was a cold morning when Cory Mackenson s life first began to change. He was woken up at the
crack of dawn by his father to get ready for what was about to be the most shocking day of his
life. They got out of their house and began his dad s usual milk route, but little did Cory know
that he would be seeing a dead body that would scar him and his father and change their lives
forever. In the book Boy s Life by Robert McCammon, Cory s father s experience with the murder
at Saxon s Lake and Cory s relationships with his friends cause Cory to mentally grow and mature
throughout the novel from a reckless boy into a responsible young man. It first appeared that Cory
was maturing and growing in the story on page 40 when Cory s mother is having... Show more

On page 169 Cory and his friends are on the baseball field when Gotha and Gordo approach the
group of boys. They begin to harass them and call them very rude names. After the name calling
came the physical harassment and by then Cory had had enough. The anger he had built up
inside of him and he then threw the baseball at Gordo from about ten feet. (169) This time Cory
put his foot down to the endless insults thrown by the brothers, and he stood up for not just
himself but also his friends, which was a way that his friends had made him mentally grow.
More than once in this story do Cory s friends influence the way that Cory matures, and they
especially do that when Cory is talking to Davy Ray whilst Davy is on his deathbed. Cory is
scared and most likely feels alone at that moment since he is helping his friend to be able to go
in peace. But his past experiences with his friends have helped him get to a point where he is
able to put his own feelings aside and help his friend who needs it more. Both of these times in the
story show the ways that Cory s friends were part of the reasoning to why he mentally matured
from a boy into a young man. If these things had not happened to his friends then nothing would
have inspired Cory to take action or demonstrate ways that he has

Kendall Hendrix Character Analysis
He is 5 10 at 170 pound with a medium build but tone because he goes to the gym daily. His skin
is a deep camel with a yellowish hue with craters on his face almost looking like freckles. A big
bell pepper shaped nose with a thin but long beard. He dresses really shabby, a common outfit
would include a boonie hat, a multi colored striped tank top, basketball shorts and battered tan
working boots. He can pass as hippy being a laid back guy. Kendal has a positive and negative
influence on others, he is very unsanitary and doesn t know how to stay out of trouble on the
other hand he s a hard worker. Kendal Hendrix is the biggest slob. Where ever he went he left
old plates used, tissues that were slimy and sticky to the touch, and left an odor similar to sweat
and after sex funk. Whatever he touches there s a sticky residue from syrup or chunks of food
wedged in between the buttons of a TV remote. When Kendal washes clothes he bring them all out

Even though he didn t need money growing up he always worked overtime. A sixteen hour shift
is nothing to him as long as he eats half of a cow and sleeps the remaining eight hours of the day.
Whenever Kendal finds the reward of doing the job reasonable he has absolutely no problem
doing it. One time Kendal was paid just $200 to completely move all the furniture out of one
house to another in a day and didn t ask for help. Only time he did anything without getting
payed is when his nagging mom complain for weeks clean his room and it would be done with
perfection. When he cleaned his room you would be persuaded the floors could be eaten off of.
Kendal for the most part is a great person to be around but somethings are intolerable. He is a
disgusting slob. Also he can t keep himself out of trouble. He is a very hard worker and has no
problem with it. Hopefully Kendal patches his downfalls to prove himself and be more influential

Patriotism and The American Flag Essay
There is much controversy surrounding the idea of patriotism and the iconography of the
American flag in today s society. Some believe patriotism is simply the act of supporting the
decisions of the leaders of the country. Others say, to be patriotic, people should be outspoken and
voice their oppositions to what is going on in the government. Opinions also differ on the idea of
what the American flag represents. One opinion of the flagsrepresentation is that the flag represents
our history, and the formerly mentioned idea of patriotism. Others believe the flag also represents
our history as a nation, but these beliefs focus much more heavily on the negative aspectsof our
history; such as slavery and other injustices carried out by our... Show more content on

All Americans should find their opinion on patriotism and voice that opinion. There are many
different views of patriotism and many will clash, but if we continue to talk and use our minds
instead of our fists or guns, we can eventually come to a compromise of both ideas, which will
best represent everyone s opinions on patriotism. Through more clearly and fairly defined ideas of
patriotism we can better understand the actions of our fellow Americans and avoid more
unnecessary conflicts caused by extremist ideas being the only ideas heard.
Another vague subject of patriotism brought up in times of war is the iconography. In America the
most commonly known icon of patriotism is the American flag. Unfortunately, what the flag
represents is ambiguous and unclear to most people. Kingsolver pleads, We desperately need a
new iconography of patriotism (Pg. 2). When examining why she says this we should look at
what other people believe the flag represents. Some, traditionally conservative or republican, feel
the flag is a physical representation of supporting their country. An abundance of flags are often
seen during times of war or tragedy. Flags signify peoples care, concern, or support for what is
going on. The absence of an American flag can often result in persecution. People who do not
openly display their so called patriotism are often

The Impact Of Gaming On Today s Youth Essay
During the eighth week of study a forum post was submitted regarding gaming and young people
by T. Wilson (2016). This post questioned how people feel about the impacts of gaming on today
s youth. I responded with a summary of my experience with gaming and what it was to me by
writing, ... [gaming was] just another way to interact with my family. I then wrote about how I
believe parents should interact with their children through gaming. Mostly everyone agreed that it
was ... ok in moderation. (Waddell, 2016). Some, however, did write that gaming does more harm
than good, particularly in regards to social interaction. I disagreed and wrote that your neglecting
the massive benefit technology has had on communication... we can use what we learn [from
gaming] in face to face communications. During this incident I thought about the situation in a
context of my own experience growing up. I thought about how my parents raised me with
technology and what they did in regards to restrictions and interaction with me. I also thought
about all the people who say that gaming is bad for people and how I disagreed with that opinion
because of the possible cognitive, physical, psychological and, social benefits games can have. As
the discussion went on I became increasingly frustrated with what people were saying. I felt they
ignored what I was trying to say. I became increasingly agitated once people were talking about how
detrimental gaming is on communication. Although,

Impingement Syndrome Case Report
Hi everyone, Impingement syndrome have two types external impingement and internal
impingement (McKinnis, 2014). External impingement compresses the rotator cuff tendons in the

impingement is the compression of the posterior capsule and rotator cuffbetween the humeral head

The Flaws and Shortcomings of African Historiography Essay
The Flaws and Shortcomings of African Historiography
History is formed through a combination of personal experiences, psychological state, personal
objectives, relation with the interviewer, position in society and many other factors that cannot be
scientifically monitored and accounted for. Thus, no historian has been able to filter through the
many layers they need to in order to arrive at an accurate account of history. What personal
narratives and life histories provide are numerous examples of the complexities and ambiguities
that accompany any reconstruction of African history. Each account of history does not offer a

Relationships Between Interviewer and Subject:
As recognition and acceptance of the subjects ability to hold back and alter information increased,
so did historians emphasis on the quality of the relationship between interviewer and interviewee.
For example, Bozzoli made a point of reducing the physical and ethnical variations between
interviewer and interviewee. In order to increase the comfort level of the subject, and in turn, get
more honest and personal information, Bozzoli used female interviewers with racial and ethnic ties
to the subject whereas Mbilinyi had a much more direct approach. Alagoa, Bozzoli, and

Planned Behavior And Theory Of Reasoned Action
Measuring suicide has developed significantly in the last few decades. Cases are reported more
accurately than ever before, yet it is still described as one of the most complex public health
concerns. There is no definite pathophysiological explanation of suicide yet, however other models
and theories help to interpret the phenomena of this form of self injury (Chang, 2011). There tends
to be a spectrum regarding positions on this behavior, what society views as normal versus
abnormal. Much research has been conducted using the Theory of Planned Behavior and Theory of
Reasoned Action (TRA/TPB). With these theories, the focus relies more on social behavior rather
than a mental health issue or disorder (Armitage, 2004). Western philosophers

Oil Sand Industry In Canada
One of the major contributors to both our economy and the environment is the tar sand industry,
and yet there are not that many Canadians who are aware of the problems and benefits that this
industry brings to our country. Every day we are destroying our nature and environment because of
the economy benefits that the oil sandsbring to our country. Canadais the parent of one of the
major oil sands operations in the whole World. To be more specific, its located mainly in the
province of Alberta, and it is started in 1967. Alberta has the third largest oil sand reserves in the

affects the lives of people because people s investments, jobs and the quality of their lives
depends on the economy. If the economy crashes, lots of people will lose their jobs and the
quality of their lives will decrease day by day. Tar sands operation generates a lot of money for
Canada and it is one of the main contributors to the economy. The government is getting lots of
money from the companies that are in control of these operations. Those companies have to pay
a lot of taxes and royalties to the government and beside that they have to pay for leasing the
government lands that they are currently using. According to a research that was done by IHS,
the government received around the 28 billion dollars from the tax and the royalties that they got
from the oil sand companies in 2012. Also IHS indicates that 6% of the federal government
income which is around 15 billion dollar is from the tar sand productions. So, The tar sand
operations is a good source of income for the government and that means that the Canadian
government has lots of more money to spend on the areas that need improving in our country. Since
the money that the government receives is spend on the every parts of Canada, it doesn t only affect

Love Medicine Summary
A Message of Hope in Love Medicine
Love Medicine, by Louis Eldridge attempts to confront the popular stereotypes of American
Indians. The novel generally follows the history of a family of Chippewa Indians who live on and
off a reservation.
In a thoroughly humanist approach, Ms. Eldrige narrates each chapter in a different voice, and
through extremely varied characters effectively shows the diversity of the Indians. This is an
important aspect of the novel, as it demonstrates that there is no single stereotypical Indian . The
book begins with two scenes from a modern perspective, showing a turbulent family with fairly
disturbing problems. Then the author flashes back to the lives of the Chippewa s family two
generations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe this image came in several varieties but all images of the Indian had one common point:
Indians were another historical fact coupled with the romanticized images portrayed by the media.
Our outlook on Native Americans as a society is one which attaches every individual American
Indian with a cultural past which has absolutely nothing to do with the present day. Expecting an
American Indian to retain cultural beliefs and societal practices reflective of his heritage is like
expecting an urbanized American Swede to carry out a traditional 1500 s Swedish lifestyle in the
1990 s.
It is this issue which Love Medicine adresses so skillfully. The Chippewa family in the story is
very large. From the very beginning we see scenes of infidelity, drunken rampages, strained
marriages, hate, and poverty. These scenes offer a look into the lifestyle of the modern Native
American which is strikingly different from the comfortable images that we all harbor; images of a
noble people living off the land, in harmony with nature. So much for the romantic view of the
noble savage . This leaves the reader in the uncomfortable situation reconciling the two extremes
images. The compromise is found in the stories of the book. The individual narratives which show
the world through the eyes of the Chippewa s. A close examination of the stories reveals a subtle
difference between everyday American thought, and Chippewa thought. American s live in a

The Third Of May Meaning
The Third of May 1808 was painted by a Spanish painter Francisco Goya in 1814. In this painting,
Goya attempted to describe the battle between Spanish and Napoleon during the occupation of

who is trying to fight against Napoleon who backtracked his promise and betrayed the Spain s

The Third of May is claimed as one of the greatest painting of all time. According to the art

He added a psychological value inside by raising our sympathy through looking at the faces of the
unarmed people. They are covering their face in order to avoid looking at the death which is

Secondly, this picture is asymmetrical balanced which creates a dynamic composition. Even
thought there is different body gesture, action and facial expression between two groups of people.
We can see that both of them are well organized in order to show a parallel pattern between left and

Best Welding Helmet
When it comes to welding, whether doing MIG, TIG, or Stick welding, you need the best
equipment. To get the job done well, as well as to make the whole process more streamlined, you
need high quality gear that can help you finish your welds more efficiently. Another important
factor that you have to consider is safety, and one of the most important parts of your safety gear is
the helmet. While other pieces like your gloves or apron (if you have one) are crucial, the helmet is
the one part that allows you to do your job well.
To that end, I ve compiled a list of the best welding helmets on the market today, as well as created

to replace the whole helmet once the battery died, but with this, you can just swap it out and keep on

Realism In Phantom Of The Opera
Theatrical realism and psycological realism emerged as a reaction against the popular
entertainment of Melodrama, Music Halls and vaudeville. Melodrama The techniques of
melodrama, meaning music drama , began to develop at the start of the 18th century where
spoken dialogue was combined with short musical accompaniment, resulting in a happy ending
for the hero and heroine. These plays were thematically inspired by Manichaeism, a
philosophical idea taken from 3rd century prophet Mani, depicting a simplified moral universe
(Trumbull, 2004, para. 2) where the forces of good and evil were embodied by the characters. In
Melodrama, antagonists were irredeemably evil while protagonists were faultlessly good, there
was no nuance. Actors played two dimensional caricatures, with specific gestures and ways of
moving to indicate exactly how the character was feeling. For example, Special effects such as
explosions, fires and earthquakes were also common. Early horror films encapsulate the style
perfectly, and they were so popular that there is an abundance of evidence surviving to this day.
The Phantom of the Opera (1925) was directed Rupert Julian and took inspiration from the same
novel as Andrew Lloyd Webber s hit musical of the same name. Fifty minutes into the film,
Christine reveals the Phantom s true face in a sequence of wide open eyes/mouth, stumbling
backwards, clutching her chest and collapsing to the floor to signify her utter horror at the sight

3.3.3.1. Self context perspective:
History has witnessed where women were considered to be mere dependent individuals who
does not have their own self and life as their faith before marriage was considered to be tied to
their father and after marriage with their husband. That is why a widow s life was considered as
a burden on earth. Being a girl, none was motivated for education, no platform was built to set
their career. But there are instances where history has also seen women in some of the powerful
positions. As mentioned in the earlier chapter, while Jatra step down to Assam from Bengal, the
women at that point had the only option to appreciate as a spectator from far off. The role of
women was played by men itself and this continued for a long. By then came the theatre moment
in Assam where women s participation could not be considered so effortlessly. But later with the
passage of time finally the presence of women can be marked both in Jatra and other forms of
theatre. Girls would dress in different attires to represent mythological characters in Jatra. Young
girls would love to dress up with heavy make up and with great zeal and excitement, to perform
their respective roles. People from nearby and far off villages would come to watch their
performances. The loud applause of audiences give them immense motivation to carry on and

Analysis Of The Poem The Song Of Wandering Aengus By...
Yeats: Youthful Desires
To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment we can bring on ourselves.
Federico Garcia Lorca (Blood Wedding)
William Butler Yeats was not a man to keep quiet about his passions. He expresses his need for
more than just reality throughout his poems, longing for the youthful desires of his heart. Yeats
often talks about escaping reality and shifting to a realm of fantasy in which his deepest thoughts
are brought forth. He reveals his unrequited love through the visionary elements in his poems. His
use of sensory detail in each of the poems increases the fantastical notion of the poems. Yeats longs
for the things he can no longer attain, such as love and youth. Two poems that display his youthful
desires are The Song of Wandering Aengus and The Wild Swans at Coole.
In The Song of Wandering Aengus, Yeats is not only longing for youth, but also for his love to

Why The Chinese Country Is Responsible For Managing The...
The Chinese country was primarily a farming nation until 1978, when the government took drastic
measures to bolster the economy and decentralize state sectors. Before 1978, the chinese
government worked on a command model, where the government was responsible for for
managing the economy. It wasn t until Deng Xiaoping, a capitalist who introduced new principles
into the economy, that these drastic changes occurred. With the new capitalistic ideals, the
Chinese government saw extraordinary growth within their economy. The economy has averaged
a 10 percent growth in GDP over the last several decades. Their market has grown from 168
billion in 1978, to about 8 trillion. Xiaoping did this by making state governed sectors more
independent. They adopted some of the more western ideas like laissez faire, or an attitude of
letting businesses operate without interference. Many of the state owned sectors became private
enterprises which grew rapidly under a competitive environment. Banks were also split up which
allowed them to grow quickly while also reducing risk to the economy. In 2011, the Chinese
government decided that they needed to implement new reforms. Known as the 12th five year year
plan, the government wants to focus more on domestic consumption so they can be less dependent
on exports. What has been happening? The Chinese market has been on an incline for the last
decade due to their market opening up to other countries. The Chinese market is extremely different

Levi Strauss And The Black Jeans
Denim has been a part of American culture for more than 100 years, and is common all over the
world. It has developed over the years and has become a central part of most people s wardrobes.
Denim went beyond just the pair of blue jeans and is used to make shirts and jackets, increasing
its value as a fabric. I strongly believe that there are very few articles of clothing that are as
versatile and easy to wear as a pair of jeans. With that said, I feel that jeans will be a staple in
fashion for both men and women for many years to come. The origins of denimcome from a man
named Levi Strauss, who saw a need for type of pants that would last longer. The jeans would
mostly be used for laborers during the Gold Rush in the late 1800s. So, on May 20, 1873, Levi
Strauss and his financial partner Jacob Davis created the blue jeans (Our Story). His brand, Levi
Strauss and Co., also known as simply Levi s has become one of the most well known denim
brands in America. Little did Levi Strauss know, but he would be the catalyst for one the most
iconic and durable garments of clothing to date. It wasn t until the 1930s that denim became an
item that was worn in everyday life rather just a pant to wear while working. In the 30s there
were many Western movies with cowboys wearing denim jeans, which became very popular for
Americans (History). In the 1940s, during World War 2, the denim overall was introduced and was
worn by off duty soldiers (History). This was the time that brands like

Advantages And Benefits Of TPPA In Malaysia
TPP provides many benefits and advantages to our country, Malaysia. This is so because TPPA
help in terms of economic progress. In line with the growing progress we should be wise in

One of the effects of the TPPA involves an increase in the price of medicines. According to the
TPPA agreement, prices of medicines will increase between 60% and 80% from the current price.
This agreement will involve the regulation of medicines in generic drugs have changed that are not

How Did King Henry Viii Downfall
The court of Henry VIII was known to be a prestigious and luxurious place for those close to the
king; yet it was a dangerous and cruel place for those suspected of plotting against the crown.
The king was known to be paranoid about the idea that a noble in his court would snatch the
throne from Tudor control (Inside). Whisperings and rumor became many a courtier s downfall
and many victims were sent to the tower (Layton). Even with danger around every corner, many
nobles, and even some peasants, became rich and immensely powerful (Inside). When the young
Prince Henry first took the throne as king of England in 1509, the people loved him (Inside ).
They thought Henry would stop the financial corruption of his father s court, which stole money
from the citizens of England under the thin disguise of taxes in order to place the monarchy in
absolute power. To help cement this image of himself as a people s hero, Henry VIII had two of
his father s top financial council members, Edmund Dudley and Richard Empson, beheaded for
flimsy charges of embezzling money (Layton). King... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Memorialization In Poland
Memorialization through A Survivors Experience Through an Observers Eyes
Memorials are one way to commemorate a significant event or person. It is a way for us to
reflect on the past, whether it be positively or a warning. In a way we can see them as a
tombstone for events or people that had a huge impact on the country or city it is located in.
Memorials can be extremely powerful and provoke great emotion, and others simply serve a basic
purpose of simply educating. Europe is known for their monuments of figures such as Britannia and
events such as the French Revolution. Poland does not fall short of this tradition, nor does it lack in
historical significance.
Poland was occupied by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during World War II from 1939 1945.
It was during this time that the Jews had a significant (and devastating) event; The Holocaust.
Some of the most infamous concentration camps were located in Poland; in fact, Poland housed
the same number of concentration camps as Germany (9 out 24). The Jews experienced the
worst tragedy in Polish history, and arguably in world history. Over 6 million lives were taken
and it seems there is a lack of history and proof in Poland of Jewish life prewar, even through
memorialization. They were nearly wiped of the face of the earth, and by the numbers of Jews in

Speaking of hangout, the couple was spotted together at the InStyle Awards function held in Los

1) Since the injured plaintiff was not wearing a seatbelt, why is Ford being sued for failing to
test the seatbelt sleeve? In the case of Branham v. Ford Motor Co., the Plaintiff brought the case
against Hale, the driver, and Ford because the company failed to test the seat belt sleeve, even
though he did not seriously pursue the claim against Hale (Reed, Pagnattaro, Cahoy, Shedd

Ford s reasoning for dismissal of the negligence claim was that since Branham did not prove the
seat belt sleeve was in a defective condition unreasonably dangerous to its user meant that it should
have been dismissed as well. The court s decision to judge on the handling and stability design
defect claim portion (Reed, Pagnattaro, Cahoy, Shedd Morehead, 2012), this is true. 3) Is the
consumer expectations test or the risk utility test more favorable to manufacturers? Explain. In
Branham v. Ford Motors Co., the risk utility test is more favorable to the manufacturer. The
consumer expectations test is difficult to predict from a manufacturer s perspective because it is
vague (Tracy 2010). Under the risk utility test, a product is unreasonably dangerous and defective if
the danger associated with the use of the product outweighs the utility of the product (Reed,
Pagnattaro, Cahoy, Shedd Morehead, 2012). The consumer expectations test is used to determine
whether the product is negligently manufactured or whether a warning on the product is defective.
The courts noted that the consumer expectations test was best suited for

The Steinbeck s Book And The Migrant s Choice Of Words...
Having The Grapes of Wrath and Their Eyes Were Watching God on my library shelf occurred
because the two novels are required summer reading for my junior year language arts class. I
doubt I ever would have read Hurston s book, but Steinbeck s book is known to me. So, I took
advantage of this opportunity, to become involved with Tom Joad (and his family) and Janie
Crawford (and her grandmother and three husbands). From my reading, I saw connections with
the issues of power and self fulfillment, survival, family life and relationship, and community
connections. Both books take place in the 1930 s; one in rural Florida and the other from
Oklahoma to California. The writing style in the books relies on conversation indicative to the
identity of the characters and the setting. The initial problem I had is reading the southern dialect
spoken by the characters in Hurston s book and the migrant s choice of words and speech patterns
in Steinbeck s book. Eventually, I succumbed to it and became engaged with the character s
determination and the impact of events on their lives as the stories evolved.
Power is important in both books. For the Joads and the migrants it is confronting and dealing
with the landowners. The idea of power results in a bond between the Joads and the Wilsons, and
later incorporates the other migrant families. I see this as an example of self preservation. On the
other hand, for Janie, power of others prevents her from achieving independence and self

In Nothing Gold Can Stay the author is discussing natures first green and how it is golden and

gradually unfolding. In both the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay and the poem Unfolding Bud the
author uses nature to develop the theme of living life to it s fullest by using comparisons,
symbolism, and imagery. The poem Unfolding Bud conveys the theme of enjoying the golden
part of your life with the use of analogy. The author writes, One is not amazed, At a first glance,

Delightfully this seems to imply association with Jesus, the Lamb of God, and his righteousness.
The softness is associated with the gentleness and humbliness of the Savior. The lamb is next
about such a tender voice that voice that makes the vales rejoice. The speaker is simply asking the
lamb, Dost thou know who made thee? [2] The second stanza begins with the statement. Little
Lamb I ll tell theek. [2.] The speaker now provides the answer to the question. The answers is
provided first vaguely through association of names and characteristics. The tone of the prose is

Social Image Of Marie Antoinette
One of the most famous queen of France, Marie Antoinette is the major historical figure
representing the dawn of the French revolution. Though she was seen as a symbol of the
conservative, extravagant royal class, recent studies disagree on this well known image. Historical
fact shows that Marie Antoinette was a virtuous queen and a thoughtful mother who was
courageous in the face of death. The current social image of Antoinette is a prejudiced one. Her
notoriety is wrongly accused. Antoinette was only a victim of family ambition and the general
situation in France.
Though she lacked actual political power, Antoinette lived an active, charitable and modest life. The
famous phrase, Let them eat cake is often attributed to Antoinette as a vivid example of her
ignorance. However, renowned biographer Antonia Fraser in Marie Antoinette: The Journey notes
that this phrase is misattributed. It is actually originated from Jean Jacques Rousseau s Confessions,
an autobiography published when Antoinette was only nine. It is more likely that some
discontented individual fabricated the scenario and put the words into the mouth of Marie
Antoinette (Fraser, 124). Moreover, Antoinette s actions show that she was far from ignorant. In
1785, when a terrible famine swept the country, potato planting ... Show more content on

ignorant, noble class before the French revolution is wrong. Her current image in European history

Comparing Cardoso s Scholarship And Statesmanship
In Fernando Henrique Cardoso s article Scholarship and Statesmanship, published in the Journal
of Democracy Volume 12, Number 2 (April 2005), Cardoso writes about the relationship between
values and politics. Using reasoning by example, he makes this case that Ideas are to be
understood in light of the circumstances that they are meant to explain and address. Only then can
we put ideas to work for our chosen causes . In the following paragraphs the above will be
summarized and criticized by myself.
Cardoso starts off by introducing Professor Seymour Martin Lipset and their work together in the
field of sociology. He continues on to giving an example of how when modernizing, traditions did
not have to be abandoned, but could be merged together; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Today s motto is not what to do, but how to do it in the most efficient and cost effective manner
possible. (paragraph 12). This does not mean one must disregard values, it just implies that values
must be mixed with efficiency. Policies are difficult work because one must work in all the pre
existing demands as well as try to include the many inputs available. Technical knowledge furthers
our ability to do so, positively impacting our state and society. There are, however, many different
ways this can take us. At a time, during the Enlightenment, markets were considered to be able to
be used as a tool for building a better world of peace, prosperity, and civilized refinement. Although
as time passed and we dove into the Industrial Revolution it began to be portrayed as a locus of
violence and oppression (paragraph 16). Cardoso continues on to discuss the rise and fall of the
market s image to the public s eye. This then brings us to Cardoso s statement, Ideas are to be
understood in light of the circumstances that they are meant to explain and address. Only then can
we put ideas to work for our chosen causes (paragraph 17). An appropriate method, in other words,
will produce an appropriate result , Cardoso exclaims (paragraph 18).

The Cultural Environment Of Today s Society
This work will analyse and consider the cultural environment in which we are all subjected to in
today s society. Culture doesn t have just one meaning, they vary depending on where you live,
how you live, how you been taught, religion, language and many others. These are just some of the
factors of that create the diversification of specific types of culture, that we all have to adapt too
even if you look at individualism and collectivism. Businesses of today, also have to changethe way
they operate, to suit and operate effectively depending on where they want to situate themselves,
otherwise problems could arise
Culture can be recognised for nor right or wrong in today s society. We ve become as a human
race influenced by various avenues and ideas of how things should be done. We all have an
ideology that the society we have been bought up is the correct fashion of which others should
follow suit, but that not the case in some instances. Culture is the shared values of beliefs, values
and normality of how people and businesses should act on in the environment of which we are
surrounded by. This doesn t mean as an individual one has to follow but in some cases as a sign of
respect you ll just have too.
Culture may not be right or wrong but just a matter of opinion, not truth. Society changes all the
time, when society changes the culture does too. 10 years ago the culture of which we live in used
to be completely different. In that space of time we have changed the way we

The Melting Pot Play Summary
The Melting Pot by Israel Zangwill is a four act play that speaks about immigration, assimilation,
fusion, pluralism, prejudice, and discrimination. A main character of the play is David Quixano
who immigrated to the non Jewish boroughs of New York. However, David is Jewish and
escaped from Russia. The other main character of the play is Vera Revenda. Vera is a Christian
who also came from Russia. When David and Vera speak out about their love for one another,
their families both disapprove because of who one another are. Similar to Romeo and Juliet,
Israel Zangwill produced a play but with a happy alternative ending. The feud between these two
families is due to Vera s father who was responsible for the death of David s family in a pogrom. A

According to the article Far Sighted in the Economist, the assistance to help immigrants with their
financial situation is on a rise. In years past, when an immigrant would migrate to a new country,
they would have a dream and that was probably to grow their financial status or start a business,
but there was problem for most migrants as they had a lack of paperwork and no credit. Without
the proper paperwork and credit, the immigrants would be at a standstill, as they could not get
loans to further their career, but with the help of several banks such as Neighborhood Trust,
Extrabanca, Scotiabank and Oportun, immigrants are now getting more opportunities to get access
to banks and loans in several ways. These firms want to make it quick

Corruption In Oryx And Crake
The world is a terrifying place. This harsh reality has been hammered into the malleable minds of
children and all of societies. Due to the amount of misdeeds on Earth, ultimately the people who
possess the luxury to escape the vices of mankind will tend to be ignorant toward those problems
and instead focus on themselves. Because of the segregation, there will eventually going to be a
lack of regulation controlling those sins. In Mary Atwood s future dystopian novel, Oryx and
Crake, the author presents how corruption reigns supreme in one of the most controversial human
issues, human and sex trafficking. The amount of victims in this terrible multi billionaire syndicate
never seem to decrease. Although, currently there are multiple resource... Show more content on

The recruiters notice the terrible living conditions in rural areas, and act as a beacon of hope
towards those civilians. As a basic summary for how they lure them in, the Deshpande and Nour
answer Sex traffickers may often approach families living in poverty and seek to purchase girls,
boys or young women with the promise of a better life in a richer nation. (2). This strongly
parallels with Atwood s depiction of this ethical dilemma. The way one of the recruiters, who
the readers eventually come to learn that his name is Uncle En, approaches Oryx s village in a
trusting manner. In the Oryx chapter, she recounts that He was the villagers bank, their insurance
policy, their kind rich uncle, their only charm against bad luck. And he had been needed more
and more often because the weather had become so strange and could no longer be
predicted...and the crops were suffering (118). The fashion of how he befriended Oryx s
shantytown seems to be of wholesome purity and kindness. Not only was he the villagers bank but
he was also the kind rich uncle . The villagers ultimately respected him because he provided them
hope for them to proper despite their social standing. It is like he is the hero that the village needs.
Yet, he understands that the town is gradually becoming more reliant on him because of the terrible
weather that is eradicating their source of income, the crops. Uncle En, like modern traffickers
today, take this as an initiative to gather in the children into their organization. They prey upon the
poor stricken people not in a belligerent way, they strategically interact with them in a innocuous yet
manipulative way. The way these employers act around their future employees strike a similar
connection with the world today. According to Standiford, Traffickers and/ or pimps commonly

Separation of Mixtures
Purpose
A mixture is a blend of at least two types of matter. The two types of mixtures are heterogeneous and
homogeneous. A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture that does not appear the same throughout. A
homogeneous mixture is a mixture that is identical everywhere. A mixture could be composed of
elements and compounds; both are pure substances. A compound is when multiple elements are put
together, like water. Everything has chemical and physical characteristics and these qualities help
scientists classify matter.
Hypothesis
If the properties are identified and utilized, then the heterogeneous mixture can be separated.

Case 7 Roswell Sophomores
Seven Roswell sophomores were selected to be on the Varsity girls soccer squad this year. This is
an impressive accomplishment, because the team is typically dominated by upper classmen. These
students are Bella Akin (left back), Elise Baron (midfield), Meghan Connelly (winger/striker/right
or left midfielder), Sienna Kent (winger/striker/right or left midfielder), Hayden Hammerman
(center back), Anne Lescher (right back), and Kristin Liquori (goalie). At tryouts, the coach saw
great potential in these players, especially in their ability to communicate and work together. These
players positions are difficult to understand because not many ordinary people watch soccer. A left
back basically provides defense and ball movement

Importance Of Integrity In The Military
This I Believe This I believe is a very vague question in terms of what I believe. I have a
multiplex of beliefs, yet one of my cardinal beliefs is integrity. Integrity is knowing that you re
honest and fair, which is what I live by. It s a level of respect you give which results in a positive
outcome on your character as a human being. It s a trait not everyone has fortitude to achieve
and not one of those traits you re born with, it s one of those traits you develop over the span of
your life as you attain understanding. When I initial set foot in the military I had no concept of
what integrity was or what it denoted. As I grew in the military and worked my way up the
ranks integrity developed in me and transcended my life and the way I reasoned. It impacted the
way I observed the word and the military entirely. If person has no integrity when they enter the
military they will develop it if they stay in to ascend the ranks. Integrity is what propels the US

ecstatic is a passion of mine and it motivates me to see their smile when I honor my commitment
to them. Existence in this field of work is fast pace and I encountered an enormous quantity of
people who check my integrity frequently as they come and go. I for one stick with what I m

Analysis Of Fridman s Essay Nerds
Good and evil. Heroes and villains. Reality and unreality. Possible and impossible. Ethereal and
the general commonplace. Nerds and ... who knows? A term such as nerd can only take a
person so far into the fact of being close minded. Nobody reserves the absolute right to even call
a nerd a legitimate nerd solely because the derogatory term is quite offensive to certain people,
and the people who are actual nerds tend to be the brighter faction of society. In this case,
Fridman argues that a nerd is valuable in the sense that those distinct people will be the future and
that those people will determine what lies next for the betterment of society. Nerds and geeks are
explicitly used in the article of America Needs Its Nerds but not in the way that nerds are the worst
possible beings in the universe. Rather, nerds are used by Fridman to... Show more content on

Fridman begins by elaborating that there are few words to characterize an intellectual such as the
vilifying, derogatory terms like nerd and geek and also compares that a nerd is most likely a street
performer who shocks the public by biting off heads of live chickens, (1 2). Fridman, at the
beginning of the article, acknowledges intellectuals as people who have no value, or at the very
least, he showcases how U.S. society and culture increasingly portray the intellectual as a person
who is worthless. Fridman conveys Webster s New World Dictionary opinion, in which in turn is a
respected source, on what it feels about smart people to demonstrate that not only are the the
intellectuals downsized by the general public but are retained to the equivalent of a savage who has
no sense at all. Fridman is clear in how he presents his argument, the introduction being that there is
something very wrong with society and that society assumes surreal definitions of someone
dedicated to [the] pursuit of knowledge,

The And Of The Tolkien s Magnum Opus
Rowling has written one of the most recognizable and iconic pieces of literature. Harry Potter
series differs from the works of Lewis and Tolkien. Yet they still have the same impact on the
readers. In this essay I will evaluate Rowling s magnum opus in order to compare her
implementations of the gospel to that of Tolkien and Lewis and to determine whether or not her
work is worthy of pertaining to the western canon. Also, I will describe the implications of her
novels on the platonic worldview according to Rowling s use of the themes of death and the
afterlife. Additionally, I will be relating Rowling s utilization of both death and the after life to
that of Tolkien and Lewis in order to analyze its causation of arousing hope and setting justice. The
novels crafted by Tolkien and Lewis seeks not only to entertain the reader but also to project their
religious ideologies. Much like Tolkien and Lewis, Rowling inserts small hints of her Christian faith
subtly into the Harry Potterseries. The primary source for their material is the Gospel. Tolkien, in

Probing Insanity in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland Essay
Probing Insanity in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland
Everybody dreams during his lifetime. It is a part of human nature that we experience almost
everyday. Dreams can be lost memories, past events and even fantasies that we relive during our
unconscious hours of the day. As we sleep at night, a new world shifts into focus that seems to
erase the physical and moral reality of our own. It is an individual s free mind that is privately
exposed, allowing a person to roam freely in his own universe. As we dream, it seems that we
cannot distinguish right from wrong or normal from abnormal and, therefore, commit acts that we
would not have done in a realistic society. Perhaps Lewis Carroll, author of Alices Adventures in
Wonderland, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Alice does not react angrily, but goes along with the peculiar conduct of the
inhabitants, as it is a world composed entirely of her own visualization. Inside Alice s mind is a
malconformation of worldly ideas, which could be categorized as characteristics of an insane
personality. In the stories of Wonderland, Alice wanders in a state of dim consciousness,
engrossed in a world of her own entertainment. It is such a question asked by Lewis Carroll that
makes us wonder whether Alice is insane or merely absorbed in a dimension devised by her
innocence and allure of nature and people around her.
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland shows us how a child s innocence can create an imaginative
world that would be considered abnormal and insane through the eyes of an adult. Alice dreams of
creatures and animals that have the ability to talk, and she constantly shifts in shape and size,
perverting the proportions of Wonderland around her. She also has conversations with other
characters that the are full of nonsense and odd remarks. Perhaps Alice s irrational personality is
best displayed during the scene A Mad Tea Party when Alice encountersa Hatter, March Hare and
Dormouse sitting down for teatime. She walks up to the crew nonchalantly and sits down to join
them. Immediately, the Hatter begins to make remarks about Alice s appearance and her manners.
He is rude and snappy, having a criticism for everything that Alice

  • 4. Cory Mature In Boy s Life It was a cold morning when Cory Mackenson s life first began to change. He was woken up at the crack of dawn by his father to get ready for what was about to be the most shocking day of his life. They got out of their house and began his dad s usual milk route, but little did Cory know that he would be seeing a dead body that would scar him and his father and change their lives forever. In the book Boy s Life by Robert McCammon, Cory s father s experience with the murder at Saxon s Lake and Cory s relationships with his friends cause Cory to mentally grow and mature throughout the novel from a reckless boy into a responsible young man. It first appeared that Cory was maturing and growing in the story on page 40 when Cory s mother is having... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the name calling came the physical harassment and by then Cory had had enough. The anger he had built up inside of him and he then threw the baseball at Gordo from about ten feet. (169) This time Cory put his foot down to the endless insults thrown by the brothers, and he stood up for not just himself but also his friends, which was a way that his friends had made him mentally grow. More than once in this story do Cory s friends influence the way that Cory matures, and they especially do that when Cory is talking to Davy Ray whilst Davy is on his deathbed. Cory is scared and most likely feels alone at that moment since he is helping his friend to be able to go in peace. But his past experiences with his friends have helped him get to a point where he is able to put his own feelings aside and help his friend who needs it more. Both of these times in the story show the ways that Cory s friends were part of the reasoning to why he mentally matured from a boy into a young man. If these things had not happened to his friends then nothing would have inspired Cory to take action or demonstrate ways that he has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His skin is a deep camel with a yellowish hue with craters on his face almost looking like freckles. A big bell pepper shaped nose with a thin but long beard. He dresses really shabby, a common outfit would include a boonie hat, a multi colored striped tank top, basketball shorts and battered tan working boots. He can pass as hippy being a laid back guy. Kendal has a positive and negative influence on others, he is very unsanitary and doesn t know how to stay out of trouble on the other hand he s a hard worker. Kendal Hendrix is the biggest slob. Where ever he went he left old plates used, tissues that were slimy and sticky to the touch, and left an odor similar to sweat and after sex funk. • 6. Patriotism and The American Flag Essay There is much controversy surrounding the idea of patriotism and the iconography of the American flag in today s society. Some believe patriotism is simply the act of supporting the decisions of the leaders of the country. Others say, to be patriotic, people should be outspoken and voice their oppositions to what is going on in the government. Opinions also differ on the idea of what the American flag represents. One opinion of the flagsrepresentation is that the flag represents our history, and the formerly mentioned idea of patriotism. Others believe the flag also represents our history as a nation, but these beliefs focus much more heavily on the negative aspectsof our history; such as slavery and other injustices carried out by our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All Americans should find their opinion on patriotism and voice that opinion. There are many different views of patriotism and many will clash, but if we continue to talk and use our minds instead of our fists or guns, we can eventually come to a compromise of both ideas, which will best represent everyone s opinions on patriotism. Through more clearly and fairly defined ideas of patriotism we can better understand the actions of our fellow Americans and avoid more unnecessary conflicts caused by extremist ideas being the only ideas heard. Another vague subject of patriotism brought up in times of war is the iconography. In America the most commonly known icon of patriotism is the American flag. Unfortunately, what the flag represents is ambiguous and unclear to most people. Kingsolver pleads, We desperately need a new iconography of patriotism (Pg. 2). When examining why she says this we should look at what other people believe the flag represents. Some, traditionally conservative or republican, feel the flag is a physical representation of supporting their country. An abundance of flags are often seen during times of war or tragedy. Flags signify peoples care, concern, or support for what is going on. The absence of an American flag can often result in persecution. The novel generally follows the history of a family of Chippewa Indians who live on and off a reservation. In a thoroughly humanist approach, Ms. Eldrige narrates each chapter in a different voice, and through extremely varied characters effectively shows the diversity of the Indians. This is an important aspect of the novel, as it demonstrates that there is no single stereotypical Indian . Maybe this image came in several varieties but all images of the Indian had one common point: Indians were another historical fact coupled with the romanticized images portrayed by the media. Our outlook on Native Americans as a society is one which attaches every individual American Indian with a cultural past which has absolutely nothing to do with the present day. Expecting an American Indian to retain cultural beliefs and societal practices reflective of his heritage is like expecting an urbanized American Swede to carry out a traditional 1500 s Swedish lifestyle in the 1990 s. It is this issue which Love Medicine adresses so skillfully. The Chippewa family in the story is very large. From the very beginning we see scenes of infidelity, drunken rampages, strained marriages, hate, and poverty. These scenes offer a look into the lifestyle of the modern Native American which is strikingly different from the comfortable images that we all harbor; images of a noble people living off the land, in harmony with nature. So much for the romantic view of the noble savage . This leaves the reader in the uncomfortable situation reconciling the two extremes images. The compromise is found in the stories of the book. • 17. Realism In Phantom Of The Opera Theatrical realism and psycological realism emerged as a reaction against the popular entertainment of Melodrama, Music Halls and vaudeville. Melodrama The techniques of melodrama, meaning music drama , began to develop at the start of the 18th century where spoken dialogue was combined with short musical accompaniment, resulting in a happy ending for the hero and heroine. These plays were thematically inspired by Manichaeism, a philosophical idea taken from 3rd century prophet Mani, depicting a simplified moral universe (Trumbull, 2004, para. 2) where the forces of good and evil were embodied by the characters. In Melodrama, antagonists were irredeemably evil while protagonists were faultlessly good, there was no nuance. Actors played two dimensional caricatures, with specific gestures and ways of moving to indicate exactly how the character was feeling. For example, Special effects such as explosions, fires and earthquakes were also common. Early horror films encapsulate the style perfectly, and they were so popular that there is an abundance of evidence surviving to this day. The Phantom of the Opera (1925) was directed Rupert Julian and took inspiration from the same novel as Andrew Lloyd Webber s hit musical of the same name. As mentioned in the earlier chapter, while Jatra step down to Assam from Bengal, the women at that point had the only option to appreciate as a spectator from far off. The role of women was played by men itself and this continued for a long. By then came the theatre moment in Assam where women s participation could not be considered so effortlessly. Girls would dress in different attires to represent mythological characters in Jatra. Young girls would love to dress up with heavy make up and with great zeal and excitement, to perform their respective roles. • 20. Analysis Of The Poem The Song Of Wandering Aengus By... Yeats: Youthful Desires To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment we can bring on ourselves. Federico Garcia Lorca (Blood Wedding) William Butler Yeats was not a man to keep quiet about his passions. He expresses his need for more than just reality throughout his poems, longing for the youthful desires of his heart. Yeats often talks about escaping reality and shifting to a realm of fantasy in which his deepest thoughts are brought forth. He reveals his unrequited love through the visionary elements in his poems. His use of sensory detail in each of the poems increases the fantastical notion of the poems. Yeats longs for the things he can no longer attain, such as love and youth. Two poems that display his youthful desires are The Song of Wandering Aengus and The Wild Swans at Coole. In The Song of Wandering Aengus, Yeats is not only longing for youth, but also for his love to be returned. The title itself is a Celtic symbol of the young god of love, Aengus. He gives the reader a foreshadowing of what the poem will be about before the first line is even read, by adding this mythological symbol to the title. In this poem, he takes himself out of reality and places it in nature, I went out to the hazel wood (ln 1). Nature here is a representative of creation, perhaps using nature as an escape from reality to create his own realm. This hazel wood (ln 1) can equally be an allusion to gaining knowledge, as was the Celtic belief that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Chinese country was primarily a farming nation until 1978, when the government took drastic measures to bolster the economy and decentralize state sectors. Before 1978, the chinese government worked on a command model, where the government was responsible for for managing the economy. It wasn t until Deng Xiaoping, a capitalist who introduced new principles into the economy, that these drastic changes occurred. With the new capitalistic ideals, the Chinese government saw extraordinary growth within their economy. The economy has averaged a 10 percent growth in GDP over the last several decades. Their market has grown from 168 billion in 1978, to about 8 trillion. Xiaoping did this by making state governed sectors more independent. They adopted some of the more western ideas like laissez faire, or an attitude of letting businesses operate without interference. Many of the state owned sectors became private enterprises which grew rapidly under a competitive environment. Banks were also split up which allowed them to grow quickly while also reducing risk to the economy. In 2011, the Chinese government decided that they needed to implement new reforms. Known as the 12th five year year plan, the government wants to focus more on domestic consumption so they can be less dependent on exports. What has been happening? It has developed over the years and has become a central part of most people s wardrobes. Denim went beyond just the pair of blue jeans and is used to make shirts and jackets, increasing its value as a fabric. I strongly believe that there are very few articles of clothing that are as versatile and easy to wear as a pair of jeans. With that said, I feel that jeans will be a staple in fashion for both men and women for many years to come. The origins of denimcome from a man named Levi Strauss, who saw a need for type of pants that would last longer. The jeans would mostly be used for laborers during the Gold Rush in the late 1800s. So, on May 20, 1873, Levi Strauss and his financial partner Jacob Davis created the blue jeans (Our Story). Having The Grapes of Wrath and Their Eyes Were Watching God on my library shelf occurred because the two novels are required summer reading for my junior year language arts class. I doubt I ever would have read Hurston s book, but Steinbeck s book is known to me. So, I took advantage of this opportunity, to become involved with Tom Joad (and his family) and Janie Crawford (and her grandmother and three husbands). From my reading, I saw connections with the issues of power and self fulfillment, survival, family life and relationship, and community connections. Both books take place in the 1930 s; one in rural Florida and the other from Oklahoma to California. The writing style in the books relies on conversation indicative to the identity of the characters and the setting. The initial problem I had is reading the southern dialect spoken by the characters in Hurston s book and the migrant s choice of words and speech patterns in Steinbeck s book. Eventually, I succumbed to it and became engaged with the character s determination and the impact of events on their lives as the stories evolved. Power is important in both books. For the Joads and the migrants it is confronting and dealing with the landowners. The idea of power results in a bond between the Joads and the Wilsons, and later incorporates the other migrant families. The famous phrase, Let them eat cake is often attributed to Antoinette as a vivid example of her ignorance. However, renowned biographer Antonia Fraser in Marie Antoinette: The Journey notes that this phrase is misattributed.
