2. People are not “right brained” or “left
brained.”
5. Your brain stops growing new cells in
adulthood.
6
HOW THE BRAIN WORKS
• No two brains are alike
• Brain is a connection
machine
• Brains hardwire
everything
• Hardwiring drives
perception
• The Surprise?
Neuroplasticity!

BRAIN BASED LEARNING
• Create a Safe Climate for Learning
• Embrace a Growth Mind-set
• Get Bodies and Brains in Gear
• Embrace the Power of Novelty
• Make Connections!
• Solicit Feedback
9
ACTIVITY: MOTOR LEARNING & MEMORY
Objective:
Measure response time
during tasks of
increasing complexity
10
ACTIVITY 1: 5 MINUTES
• Instructions
• Work in pairs
• One person acts as card sorter, the other as recorder
• Shuffle the cards
• The card sorter deals the cards into two piles
• The recorder counts how many cards are randomly sorted in 5
minutes
11
ACTIVITY 2: 5 MINUTES
• Instructions
• Work in pairs
• One person acts as card sorter, the other as recorder
