Industrial Conflict
Which theories or theories of industrial conflict, if any, can best explain the state of industrial conflict
in Singapore? Justify your answer. This essay is based on the assumption that Singapore s industrial
relations tend to be pluralistic in nature. The pluralistic approach to employment relations as defined
by Bray, Waring and Cooper (2011) is that the employment relationship contains a potential to
conflict. Hence, the question is the extent of industrial conflict in Singapore and which theories can
support this. Industrial conflict is defined by Kornhauser et al (1954) as the total range of behaviours
and attitudes that express opposition and divergent orientations between industrial owners and
managers, on the one hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It includes information of the various Acts related to employment. Thus, workers are aware of their
rights as rules and regulations are carefully spelled out into by Singapore, Ministry of Manpower
2012. This includes the Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act, Trade Union Act seen in the
appendix (Appendix pg2). This comprehensiveness and accessibility of dispute procedures makes sure
that workers understand their rights which lead to efficiency in times when workplace conflict does
arise. Yet, it is also because of such strict rules and regulations in Singapore that lead to the presence
of covert conflict in Singapore. The theory that relates to the extent of covert conflict in Singapore is
the Organisational Justice Theory. One antecedent to perceptions of organizational justice is the extent
to which employees feel that they are involved in decision making or other organizational procedures.
Higher levels of justice are perceived when employees feel that they have input in processes than
when employees do not perceive that they have the opportunity to participate (Greenberg Folger,
1983; Bies Shapiro, 1988). The culture in Singapore is one whereby respect to authority is of great
importance, as such employees would not dare to voice out their opinions so, there is minimal
involvement in the decision making process. To make things

The Role Of Refugees In Inside Out And Back Again
The universal refugee experience of fleeing and finding home relates to the title Inside Out and Back
Again in the way it shows how refugees tend to feel when fleeing and finding new homes, as well as
how it is shown in Há s story. Há, for example, was very stubborn and jealous of her brothers. She was
competitive, independent, and strong willed. When she comes to her new home, she eventually
becomes more agreeable, more decisive, and more emotional altogether. This shows us how she
changes, how she turns inside out, and how she turns back again. Refugees all around the world
experience similar things, including this change in personality. Há and her family had changed
completely when they were forced from their home, which happens to almost ... Show more content

Although it may take time, things will eventually stop being backwards. Refugees begin to go back to
a normal life, although it is not exactly how it was previously. Their lives tend to change back as they
get more comfortable. The adjustments to their new home make them feel like they belong once they
can understand the language, the culture, and the people. They will no longer be lost in the dark
unable to figure out what is going on. Here, I don t have that problem anymore (Brice 2). Our lives

African Americans And Asian Americans
Model Minority has become a frequently used terms to categorize other cultures and systemize their
relationship to the rest of the world. Defined properly, model minority refers to minority groups that
have rates of socio economic assimilation and achieved a high level of success in today s western
society. The term has been used most often to describe Asian Americans, group seen as having
attained economic and education success at significantly higher rates than that of other minority
groups. Although first coined by sociologist William Petersen in 1966, the term model minority was
not popularized and nationalized as a reference to Asian Americans through radio and television
outlets, and even some academics until the mid 1970s. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Condition of Children Orange County report states that in the 2011 2012 academic year, 7.4% of
Asian students dropped out of high school, which is higher than their white peers (4.6%). Because of
this, many schools do not accurately monitor, record, and report the dropout rates among Asian
Americans. As a result, many school districts throughout the nation do not realize the significant
number of Asian students they are losing because of a stereotype (Walker Moffat, 1995). In addition to
underachievement and growing dropout rates among Asian Americans, the increasing socioeconomic
gap between Asians and whites also made the model minority stereotype problematic. According to
U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rates among Asian American groups (12.6%) remain elevated
compared to that of their white counterparts and the overall national average (12.4%).
The negative effects of the model minority myth and stereotypes are also evident in secondary and
post graduate education. Research shows that the false representation of Asian students has evolved
into the inaccurate view and additional stereotype that Asian students achieve their success through
dishonest means and threaten the success of their academic peers (Suzuki, 2002). For example, the
increased profiling of Asian students in higher education has resulted in directly adverse learning
environments that place additional negative views on their success (Yeh, 2002). Numerous

The Butterflies In The Things They Carried
The symbol the butterflies in The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is significant because it
represents hope and Elysian even though the main idea is to show the emotional and physical burdens
of war. To emphasize the butterflies are mentioned six times throughout the whole book. The first time
they are mentioned even though they were in war it was actually a beautiful place, ravines and gorges
and fast moving rivers and waterfalls and exotic butterflies and steep cliffs. I believe he was saying
even in all this warfare it is still a beautiful place. The second time it was mentioned is the the chapter

How Bonding Helps A Child Physically Secure, Safe, And...
Bonding helps a child feel secure, safe, and helps new parents understand their child s needs and how
to respond to them. When parents take the time to bond with their child, it allows them to build more
successful relationships in the future. I strongly believe in this and that s what led me to my topic
which deals with parental leave. Many believe in parental leave because it allots time for bonding. I
also believe that another important factor is feeding. The healthiest way for your child to feed is
through breast milk and it is best straight from the source. So, how can your child get the best nutrition
if you can only properly breast feed for a couple of weeks? In the United States, no company is

Many women that were interviewed that weren t in the military said that they didn t want to enlist
because of the limitations on reproduction and several that quit did so for the same reason. Forty
percent of women on active duty have children, about ten percent of women in the military become
pregnant each year, and women in general make up fifteen percent of the military s population
(Tyson). Since the numbers have increased drastically over the past fifty years, the article provides
supportive evidence as to why the unaccommodating constraints should change.
This source relates to the side of my topic where I compare the previous rules to the new ones that

of the issues in the article discusses how women that would be deployed to a war zone when their

The Relationship Shared Amongst Students and Teachers Essay
Relationship Shared amongst Teachers and Students
Nowadays, there is much controversy plaguing our society as to how the perfect relationship between
teachers and their students should be. One pupil might be favored more than another in the classroom
by the teacher, making this extra attention unfair to the other students. Almost always, there is a
question pending as to what should the situation be inside a classroom. Nobody has yet come up with
a solution to solve the problems facing our societys school system and the relationship the students
hold with their teachers. An equal balance of fairness, dedication, and hard work should come from
both teachers and students. Once we achieve this goal, our classrooms will have teachers ... Show

Most students especially those younger need to be attracted to a particular subject or topic, one that
just grabs their attention, in order to pay attention and to learn from that subject. One such example is
when I entered the 8th grade with a hate for mathematics, but after being taught by a very well
educated professor, I managed to start liking algebra and becoming more and more intrigued as the
course went on.
When I used to be in elementary school, I would only find interest in those topics I thought were
exciting and interesting such as science and drawing. Whenever a teacher would tell us to draw or
sketch a picture, a smile immediately grew on my face and I lightened up with joy since I loved to
draw. My love of art made me one of the most talented kids at school with that gift. I believe that a
dedicated person must push his or her limitations to the maximum of their potentials to be educated
and to succeed even though he or she may not like what theyre being taught, but that person must still
push themselves to become interested in order to do well in that subject at the same time.
Another example is how I am studying to go into the pharmacy field by taking classes I may dislike
such as biology, physics, and calculus. I may loathe these classes, but in order for me to become a
pharmacist and be successful in life, I must learn to have an interest in these

Vernon Ah Ke Analysis
Artists today explore ideas, concepts, questions, and practices that examine the past, describe the
present, or imagine the future. Contemporary artists use a dynamic combination of media and
technologies, methods, concepts, and subjects to create works that reflects The Human Condition in
modern culture and society. Three contemporary artworks that utilise these artistic practices to express
The Human Condition are Michael Parekowhai, Tracey Moffatt and Vernon Ah Kee. Each artist has
used artistic devices to express the contemporary significance of The Human Condition by creating
works that reflect back to their own experience and the history of their nationality.
The Promised Land by Michael Parekowhai presents Captain Cook as a symbol of the ensuing debate
about our national identity and history. The larger than life, stainless steel sculpture of Captain Cook,

Allan Bakke Pros And Cons
Allan Bakke was a man who applied to the University of California at Davis. He was a white male,
more specifically, who tried to get in the medical school. He was denied twice, in 1973 and 1974. He
was angry because other people, with lower grade point averages, were admitted to the program. But
these people were admitted through the special program. The special program was made for the
purpose to increase representation of disadvantaged students. The screening process involved the
candidate s indication of what race they were. They could say they were a minority group, or if they
were economically and/or educationally disadvantaged. Then the special admissions committee would
see if they did meet the criteria. These candidates did not have to meet the 2.5 grade point average, nor
where they compared to the candidates in the regular admissions program. ... Show more content on

He filed suit in the Superior Court of Yolo County, California. His claim was that the University of
California s special program violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. It
also went against Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because it excluded him on the basis of race.
The University defended themselves by saying all the pros of the special admissions program. They
said it fought against the discrimination so common in their society. They thought they could reverse
the historical statistics that showed minors were discriminated against in medical admissions and
professions. Also, they said their program would increase the number of doctors who practice in less
popular or undeserved communities. The last reason was that they thought the student body in a whole
would educationally benefit. They said the students would work better if the body is ethnically and

Transition: What I m trying to say here is that all of these complicated processes happened because of
giving and receiving kindness. It actually improves the soul of our heart, but also its physical well

B. Main point II: Kindness reflects leadership quality because it teaches leader how to lead and take
initiatives.
Orly Wahba, CEO of Life Vest Inside, once said that a small act of kindness shows that we have a
power to make a change like a leader (TED Talk, 2014). It also demonstrates that we push ourselves
out of our comfort zone and take actions to help others (TED Talk, 2014).
She emphasizes that our kind actions, big or small, prove that we want to take charge and make the
world become a better place (TED Talk, 2014). And that, in her opinion (also mine), kindness is such a
simple, valuable quality which demonstrates a powerful role, a leader (TED Talk, 2014).
Transition: I want to you take these two points and understand them through my story and my
perception.

The Benefits Of The Mozart Effect
The Mozart effect is a study which showed that listening to classical music such as Mozart s
stimulates the brain and can have a positive effect on social, cognitive, and physical skills ( 10
Benefits ). In 1993, Frances H. Rauscher had 36 college age students listen to either: Mozart s Sonata
for Two Pianos in D Major, a relaxation tape, or silence. He then tested their spatial task performance
(Smith). The results showed that students who listened to Mozart s music score increased by 8 9
points. The media had a field day with this and the news spread like wildfire. After the first study was
released, exaggerated claims that Mozart s music increased IQ spread throughout the news. Soon, it
became popularly understood that listening to Mozart would make you smarter (Smith).
Companies jumped at this opportunity and CDs of Mozart s music were marketed with the
scientifically proven ability to increase intellect. Governor Zell Miller of Georgia was so enthralled at
the results of the study that he passed legislation to allocate $105,000 to give a free classical music
tape or CD to every new mother in the state (Dowd, 1). Tennessee followed up by creating similar
legislation and daycare centers in Florida are now required to play classical music. A quick google
search will show millions of results filled with distorted views and opinions over this one study. Even
the original researchers were baffled by how their single study had expanded. Frances Rauscher,

Having a strong set of ethics prepares you with the tools you need to be a critical thinker and make
proper decisions. Being aware of how you learn best is important as you want to use your time
effectively and use platforms in which you know you will retain the information better. It is important
to be able to reflect on our life and find ways of fixing what is not working effective. Learning is not

Critical thinking is one of the main objectives in higher education. A critical thinker analyzes all

different points of view openly and explore them as possibilities. You also have to able to think

Compare And Contrast John Meany And Owen Meany
Owen Meany and John Wheelwright; Effect of Spirituality
A Prayer for Owen Meany analyzes the relationship between various depths of spirituality in
comparison to mundane life. The novel by John Irving uses characters such as Owen Meany and John
Wheelwright, to juxtapose the contrasting nature of faith and doubt, and fate and free will.
John Wheelwright s and Owen Meany s differing attributes highlight the use of contrast within A
Prayer for Owen Meany. While Owen Meany tends to be a leader, John is a follower where his
primary experiences tend to be due to Owen. Furthermore, their different appearances further illustrate
their differences while John is a typical male, Owen appears childlike in stature with a rodent quality
to his appearance. Consequently, these comparisons between the two characters highlight the
underlying theme of spirituality within the novel. Owen Meany has a continuing belief in God, even
taking it as far as saying that God has a specific plan for him. GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER.
MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S
INSTRUMENT (page 90) This quote illustrates the absolute belief that Owen has in God; despite the
fact that Owen has taken the life from Tabitha Wheelwright, mother of Johnny, he chalks it up to fate
and God s will. However, John Wheelwright doubts the ideologies of Christianity as he changes his
denomination within the Christian community regularly. This contrast is displayed when the two boys

There are distinct management and leadership styles portrayed in this movie. Using information
learned in this course, provide examples of effective and ineffective management techniques you
observed in the movie.
I observed five different leadership styles in this movie, and I felt that each of them were effective
because of the timing of the leadership style used based on the situation at hand. Authoritative
leadership skills were used at the beginning of the movie when the coaches, players and the rest of the
staff met for the first time. Being the new coach, Boone needed to get everyone to follow his vision

Lastly, democratic leadership styles were portrayed by both not only by both coaches, but also
between the players. When the coaches and some of the players bought into and believed in what
Coach Boone was trying to accomplish, they were able to instill a sense of ownership in the other
team members, coaches and the town as well. In the end all but one player had become a true part of
the team and what that team stood for. The offensive team captain felt empowered enough to point out
and ask that this player be cut from the team; I believe that he did the right thing and acted as a leader
in this situation. He knew that this player was a weak link in the team and the team couldn t afford to
have even one weak link if it was going to be successful.
Do you believe Coach Boone was an effective change agent? What about Coach Yoast? Why or why
not?
I feel that both coaches played a vital role in effective change. Even though both coaches had
reservations about working together, they were willing to put aside their own prejudices for the sake
of the team. Had they not been able to do that, the team would have seen their leaders working against
each other instead of working together; that type of scenario would have hindered any chance for
effective changes.
I personally feel that Coach Boone had some rather unique change styles that he used, but they

Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain
s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his
books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and
transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark
Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime.
This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain
s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized
to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Modern people attempt to
protect their children from the harshness and evils of reality, which in turn, leads to censorship. This

the conflict over the same book one hundred years into the future, but now there is a different reason.
In The Adventures of HuckleBerry Finn the N word appears an excessive 219 times and has been
banned in some schools because the N word was not inclusive and made students uncomfortable

from the realistic point of view Twain strived to achieve. It also downplays how the minority group

mental illness . Rather, I would consider them neurological defects that, given the proper tools and/or
medicine (possibly technology that we have not yet been able to create or invent yet), can be corrected
to average or normal levels.
Secondly, yes you are right that the brain is indeed not within the stomach. However, I would
encourage you to look into the Psychology school of thought known as Dualism. This philosophy not
only disagrees with your statement of the mind is part of the brain , but it also disagrees with your
statements that

Essay On Captivity Against Law
Captivity against law unsigned documents. Abuse, infliction, and affliction. What are you gonna do
about it? For thousands of years, we have used predators to hunt for us and their reward being stuck in
cages and prostitution. They come back in free will or in fear. Ever since the beginning of time, we
have been trying to control these wild beasts. What happens when they re not there to finish the life
cycle? EXTINCTION. We have lost 99% of our animal species, most of this loss is from billions of
people keeping animals in captivity.
First, let s dive into the animal s number one problem, imprisonment. They ll never ever know what it
s like to be freed. They ll never know what it s like to be wild or do anything critters do. They re
taking away from their family, habitat, and freedom are stripped away. They ll never have a mate,

More work, more food, more everything! As they grow, they grasp their wild nature. There are many
stories of how wild pets attack their owners, most fatal and even death. Even squirrels go nuts and can
give a nasty bite to their owners. Well, that sounds really bad, but some carry diseases and what not.
Some diseases they carry are Brucellosis, Salmonella, and Ringworm. They also carry parasites, that
can be passed onto people and be deadly.
So as you see keeping a wild animal as a pet is very dangerous. They re many records of people being
fatally injured or dying because of a wild animal attack or a pet attack. There is also a lot of
paperwork for you and for the other person. It s also a lot of work, no matter how high it gets you on
the social scale that doesn t relate to how much work it takes. So as this is the end, I hope you strongly

Copyright Infringement Is The Unmistakable Reproduction Of...
Copyright infringement is the unmistakable reproduction of someone else s intellectual property. To
combat this issue, governments have passed many laws pertaining to the issue of online copyright and
piracy, though, these laws have not stopped people from committing online internet crimes. However,
those who commit copyright infringement online rarely know that they are committing a computer
crime because of how easy technology has made it to reproduce someone else s content. The
consequence of committing copyright infringement can vary from minuscule to drastic, typically
depending on how the two parties react. Regarding consequences, the ramifications that copyright, the
creator of the content to lose revenue and reputation; but they can gain popularity. Organizations
establish copyright rights over their intellectual property because companies are trying to protect and
prevent the reproduction of their creation or content. On the other hand, there are many creators that
do not know how to protect their property properly using copyright. This leads to the exploitation of
their content because they are unprotected by copyright laws. In order to protect a creator s content,
the creator must apply for copyright protection, which lasts for a limited period of time. Dan Burk, in
Copyright , explains a basic definition of copyright: a legal framework that protects some forms of
intellectual property. (Burk) Without copyright policies, a creator s property would not be

April 21, 2016
Abstract
The study will investigate the self reference effect with two different age groups. The two age groups
will be young and older adults, trying to obtain material. The first group is told to relate that
information to themselves or past experiences and, the second group is only told to review the material
given. The purpose of this experiment is to see if the self reference effect is more beneficial to
children rather than adults. To conduct this study, the observer has to use the naturalistic research
stragesty and also see the within experimental designs. In order to have a positive income on the self
reference effect. Throughout, my research I have found, like young adults, older adults exhibited
superior recognition for self referenced items relative to the items encoded with the alternate orienting
tasks, but self referencing did not restore their memory to the level of young adults (Gutchess, A. H.,
Kensinger, E. A., Yoon, C., Schacter, D. L. 1). Thus, from past research experiments the self reference
effect has seen to be more limited in adults than children.
Does the self reference effect more beneficial to children than adults? My study is based on how the
self reference effect will help children s memory rather than adults because children s brains are still
developing. Children develop a cohesive

How To Become A Writer
I have been asked what exactly I am doing with this blog, by several readers.
I am getting warmed up for now, working on my voice, working at the practice of writing. I have
always kicked around the idea of writing a memoir, but I struggle with discipline, structure, and
framing. I am hoping to gain clarity and direction as I write and share. The response from friends,
family, and the public is fueling my momentum. I am grateful to be welcomed into a community of
writers and readers. The last time I was part of a writing community I was attending a magnet high
school for the arts. The writers in my class helped me find my voice and save myself, during the most

couches, leaning against one another. Many of them went to the same, New Haven high school. They
went around the room, all complaining of late nights spent studying for their semester finals, some up

my silence would be noted. I planned on claiming I was sleepy because of exams as well. None of
them would have known. I did not want to lie about my home, my childhood, my mother not one more

I sighed deeply. I was up until 4 last night. I stopped, maybe that was honest enough.

to make me quit the writing program. To her, it was another lever to bend me to her will.

The exact definition of Near Field Communication (NFC) is a set of communication protocols that
enable two electronic devices, one of which is usually a portable device such as a smartphone, to
establish communication by bringing them within 2in of each other. For example, if I have an iPhone

Its been brought up that NFC tags can assist medical professionals with important information about a

how the hospital gave their newborn baby to another who had also just given birth to a newborn. The
confusion started with a nurse going into the wrong room and reading off the wrong tag number that is
placed on the newborns bracelet and ankle, of which a mother and their second person also receive a

but also prevent situations like these from happening, especially with such fragile situations. Not just

a school where early childbearing is common, grow up under impoverished conditions, have been

digital world (Gloria Jacobs, 2014). In my interview with family friend and 62 year old, Steve Garza,
acquiring digital literacy was difficult to do at first but grew progressively easier over the years. Garza
was introduced to his first computer in the early 80 s at the age of 32 to which he said the experience
was difficult to get used to since it was a very new thing . With no formal computer classes or training,
he became digitally literate through trial and error and the pressure to evolve with his generation as
computers became more prevalent. Though throughout the years, he claims that digital literacy
became a necessity when the World Wide Web was introduced. With more information being available
online, Garza says his generation was practically forced to become digitally literate in order to keep up
with the rest of the world. On the contrary, millennial and 18 year old friend, Clemens Koolen, grew
up surrounded by technology, which made it fairly easy for him to become digitally literate. At the age
of 5, Koolen was introduced to his first computer, which he remembers it to be a not so difficult thing,
with the exception of learning how to use the keyboard. As the digital age evolved, Koolen kept up to

The Importance Of Technology In WWII
Technology played a very important role in WWII and the ability to have certain technologies was key
to winning on the battlefield for both the United States and its allies. Most of the technology used in
WWII were based on already existing technology, however a lot of it was changed and modified due
to lessons learned from WWI and these advancements in technology helped America and it allies
greatly during WWII. Advancements in medicine, transportation, and weapons played a major factor
in the success of America and its allies in WWII by giving an upper hand to soldiers. Technological
advancements played a key role on and off the battlefield, helping secure victories that were necessary
for defeating German and Japanese forces in both theaters of WWII. Advancements in technology
occurred mostly through the fields of medicine, mechanized transportation, and weapons. Most of the
technology that we take for granted today can be directly traced back to WWII. Extensive amounts of
research was preformed during this era and for the first time war efforts were directly aimed at
disrupting the enemy s ability to preform research and develop new technologies. In modern day
America we take antibiotics for granted and don t really think twice about the history, or what life was
like before them. In the early 1900s people could become very ill and in some cases die from things as
simple as a splinter that become infected. When soldiers in WWI were being wounded on the

  • 2. Industrial Conflict Which theories or theories of industrial conflict, if any, can best explain the state of industrial conflict in Singapore? Justify your answer. This essay is based on the assumption that Singapore s industrial relations tend to be pluralistic in nature. The pluralistic approach to employment relations as defined by Bray, Waring and Cooper (2011) is that the employment relationship contains a potential to conflict. Hence, the question is the extent of industrial conflict in Singapore and which theories can support this. Industrial conflict is defined by Kornhauser et al (1954) as the total range of behaviours and attitudes that express opposition and divergent orientations between industrial owners and managers, on the one hand, ... Thus, workers are aware of their rights as rules and regulations are carefully spelled out into by Singapore, Ministry of Manpower 2012. This includes the Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act, Trade Union Act seen in the appendix (Appendix pg2). This comprehensiveness and accessibility of dispute procedures makes sure that workers understand their rights which lead to efficiency in times when workplace conflict does arise. Yet, it is also because of such strict rules and regulations in Singapore that lead to the presence of covert conflict in Singapore. The theory that relates to the extent of covert conflict in Singapore is the Organisational Justice Theory. One antecedent to perceptions of organizational justice is the extent to which employees feel that they are involved in decision making or other organizational procedures. Higher levels of justice are perceived when employees feel that they have input in processes than when employees do not perceive that they have the opportunity to participate (Greenberg Folger, 1983; Bies Shapiro, 1988). The culture in Singapore is one whereby respect to authority is of great importance, as such employees would not dare to voice out their opinions so, there is minimal involvement in the decision making process. • 3. The Role Of Refugees In Inside Out And Back Again The universal refugee experience of fleeing and finding home relates to the title Inside Out and Back Again in the way it shows how refugees tend to feel when fleeing and finding new homes, as well as how it is shown in Há s story. Há, for example, was very stubborn and jealous of her brothers. She was competitive, independent, and strong willed. When she comes to her new home, she eventually becomes more agreeable, more decisive, and more emotional altogether. This shows us how she changes, how she turns inside out, and how she turns back again. Refugees all around the world experience similar things, including this change in personality. Há and her family had changed completely when they were forced from their home, which happens to almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They will no longer be lost in the dark unable to figure out what is going on. Here, I don t have that problem anymore (Brice 2). Our lives will twist and twist, intermingling the old and the new until it doesn t matter which is which (Lai 257). Their old lives eventually won t matter anymore. • 4. African Americans And Asian Americans Model Minority has become a frequently used terms to categorize other cultures and systemize their relationship to the rest of the world. Defined properly, model minority refers to minority groups that have rates of socio economic assimilation and achieved a high level of success in today s western society. The term has been used most often to describe Asian Americans, group seen as having attained economic and education success at significantly higher rates than that of other minority groups. Although first coined by sociologist William Petersen in 1966, the term model minority was not popularized and nationalized as a reference to Asian Americans through radio and television outlets, and even some academics until the mid 1970s. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Condition of Children Orange County report states that in the 2011 2012 academic year, 7.4% of Asian students dropped out of high school, which is higher than their white peers (4.6%). Because of this, many schools do not accurately monitor, record, and report the dropout rates among Asian Americans. As a result, many school districts throughout the nation do not realize the significant number of Asian students they are losing because of a stereotype (Walker Moffat, 1995). In addition to underachievement and growing dropout rates among Asian Americans, the increasing socioeconomic gap between Asians and whites also made the model minority stereotype problematic. According to U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rates among Asian American groups (12.6%) remain elevated compared to that of their white counterparts and the overall national average (12.4%). The negative effects of the model minority myth and stereotypes are also evident in secondary and post graduate education. Research shows that the false representation of Asian students has evolved into the inaccurate view and additional stereotype that Asian students achieve their success through dishonest means and threaten the success of their academic peers (Suzuki, 2002). For example, the increased profiling of Asian students in higher education has resulted in directly adverse learning environments that place additional negative views on their success (Yeh, 2002). The Butterflies In The Things They Carried The symbol the butterflies in The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is significant because it represents hope and Elysian even though the main idea is to show the emotional and physical burdens of war. To emphasize the butterflies are mentioned six times throughout the whole book. The first time they are mentioned even though they were in war it was actually a beautiful place, ravines and gorges and fast moving rivers and waterfalls and exotic butterflies and steep cliffs. I believe he was saying even in all this warfare it is still a beautiful place. When parents take the time to bond with their child, it allows them to build more successful relationships in the future. I strongly believe in this and that s what led me to my topic which deals with parental leave. Many believe in parental leave because it allots time for bonding. I also believe that another important factor is feeding. The healthiest way for your child to feed is through breast milk and it is best straight from the source. So, how can your child get the best nutrition if you can only properly breast feed for a couple of weeks? In the United States, no company is required to give paid maternity or ... Many women that were interviewed that weren t in the military said that they didn t want to enlist because of the limitations on reproduction and several that quit did so for the same reason. Since the numbers have increased drastically over the past fifty years, the article provides supportive evidence as to why the unaccommodating constraints should change. This source relates to the side of my topic where I compare the previous rules to the new ones that have evolved. The article was published in 2008, and the new laws weren t enforced until 2016. One of the issues in the article discusses how women that would be deployed to a war zone when their child was only four months old felt and how it encouraged post partum depression because the mother was not ready to be away from the child so soon. • 7. The Relationship Shared Amongst Students and Teachers Essay Relationship Shared amongst Teachers and Students Nowadays, there is much controversy plaguing our society as to how the perfect relationship between teachers and their students should be. One pupil might be favored more than another in the classroom by the teacher, making this extra attention unfair to the other students. Almost always, there is a question pending as to what should the situation be inside a classroom. Nobody has yet come up with a solution to solve the problems facing our societys school system and the relationship the students hold with their teachers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most students especially those younger need to be attracted to a particular subject or topic, one that just grabs their attention, in order to pay attention and to learn from that subject. One such example is when I entered the 8th grade with a hate for mathematics, but after being taught by a very well educated professor, I managed to start liking algebra and becoming more and more intrigued as the course went on. When I used to be in elementary school, I would only find interest in those topics I thought were exciting and interesting such as science and drawing. Whenever a teacher would tell us to draw or sketch a picture, a smile immediately grew on my face and I lightened up with joy since I loved to draw. My love of art made me one of the most talented kids at school with that gift. I believe that a dedicated person must push his or her limitations to the maximum of their potentials to be educated and to succeed even though he or she may not like what theyre being taught, but that person must still push themselves to become interested in order to do well in that subject at the same time. Another example is how I am studying to go into the pharmacy field by taking classes I may dislike such as biology, physics, and calculus. I may loathe these classes, but in order for me to become a pharmacist and be successful in life, I must learn to have an interest in these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Contemporary artists use a dynamic combination of media and technologies, methods, concepts, and subjects to create works that reflects The Human Condition in modern culture and society. Three contemporary artworks that utilise these artistic practices to express The Human Condition are Michael Parekowhai, Tracey Moffatt and Vernon Ah Kee. He was denied twice, in 1973 and 1974. He was angry because other people, with lower grade point averages, were admitted to the program. But these people were admitted through the special program. The special program was made for the purpose to increase representation of disadvantaged students. The screening process involved the candidate s indication of what race they were. They could say they were a minority group, or if they were economically and/or educationally disadvantaged. Then the special admissions committee would see if they did meet the criteria. The University defended themselves by saying all the pros of the special admissions program. They said it fought against the discrimination so common in their society. They thought they could reverse the historical statistics that showed minors were discriminated against in medical admissions and professions. Orly Wahba, CEO of Life Vest Inside, once said that a small act of kindness shows that we have a power to make a change like a leader (TED Talk, 2014). • 13. The Benefits Of The Mozart Effect The Mozart effect is a study which showed that listening to classical music such as Mozart s stimulates the brain and can have a positive effect on social, cognitive, and physical skills ( 10 Benefits ). In 1993, Frances H. Rauscher had 36 college age students listen to either: Mozart s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, a relaxation tape, or silence. He then tested their spatial task performance (Smith). The results showed that students who listened to Mozart s music score increased by 8 9 points. The media had a field day with this and the news spread like wildfire. After the first study was released, exaggerated claims that Mozart s music increased IQ spread throughout the news. Soon, it became popularly understood that listening to Mozart would make you smarter (Smith). Companies jumped at this opportunity and CDs of Mozart s music were marketed with the scientifically proven ability to increase intellect. Governor Zell Miller of Georgia was so enthralled at the results of the study that he passed legislation to allocate $105,000 to give a free classical music tape or CD to every new mother in the state (Dowd, 1). • 15. Compare And Contrast John Meany And Owen Meany Owen Meany and John Wheelwright; Effect of Spirituality A Prayer for Owen Meany analyzes the relationship between various depths of spirituality in comparison to mundane life. The novel by John Irving uses characters such as Owen Meany and John Wheelwright, to juxtapose the contrasting nature of faith and doubt, and fate and free will. John Wheelwright s and Owen Meany s differing attributes highlight the use of contrast within A Prayer for Owen Meany. While Owen Meany tends to be a leader, John is a follower where his primary experiences tend to be due to Owen. Furthermore, their different appearances further illustrate their differences while John is a typical male, Owen appears childlike in stature with a rodent quality to his appearance. Consequently, these comparisons between the two characters highlight the underlying theme of spirituality within the novel. Owen Meany has a continuing belief in God, even taking it as far as saying that God has a specific plan for him. GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT (page 90) This quote illustrates the absolute belief that Owen has in God; despite the fact that Owen has taken the life from Tabitha Wheelwright, mother of Johnny, he chalks it up to fate and God s will. However, John Wheelwright doubts the ideologies of Christianity as he changes his denomination within the Christian community regularly. This contrast is displayed when the two boys are young ... Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime. This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life.
