1. Our impressions of the international meeting in Italy
This year we – pupils from Form 8 – Iveta, Elizabete, Elina and Karina participate in the
Comenius project “The Voices from the Land”. We visited Rome (the capital city of Italy) in
May (with 3 teachers from our school - Daugavpils Saskanas basic school). It took us the whole
day to arrive here, but it was really exciting. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the sea and
forests. The sights were so fascinating, we felt like we were in wonderland.
When we arrived, we were very nervous because we had not seen our families yet, but then
we discovered that Italian people are really friendly and good-natured. It was easy to get used
to their climate and traditions, because as I said families were so unsophisticated. It was a little
bit strange that we started to eat at about nine o’clock, but everything was absolutely delicious.
We went to the Ostia Antica - it is an ancient city near the sea. The guide described us how
ancient people lived, he told us about their daily routine. After that we went to the sea, where
we had a free time.
Also we went to the Vatican, where we visited famous Sistine Chapel, Raffaello Rooms,
St. Peter’s Basilica. We were amazed, how talented and patient people were at those times. It
took 15 years at hard work to decorate some rooms. And of course we were amazed by
Michelangelo works.
Also we visited Rome, we saw the Coliseum, Fori Imperiali, Piazza Venezia, Fontana di
Trevi, Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna and St. John Lateran’s Basilica. And of course we
tasted the best Italian ice-cream. It’s all about trips. But we have so much fun working on the
project in school. And of course families, we became really good friends. When we had to
leave Italy, we were crying, because they became to us like our own family.
We will never forget our trip to Italy, it was one of the best experiences in our lives.
Rome is a beautiful city, Italians are beautiful people. It wasn’t hard to communicate with
everybody in English, we have learnt a bunch of new Italian words, and we are very thankful to
this project.
It was an amazing trip!
