    • Thanksgiving A Holiday About Giving Thanks
    • History
      • The tradition started inAmerica to celebrate the Fall Harvest. The pilgrims who came from Europe to America received help from the Indians and they were able to survive
      • Because it centered around the harvest, the date changes every year
      • In America its celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November

    • Native Americans
      • On Thanksgiving, we often tell the story about the Pilgrims surviving the first winter with the help of the Native Americans.
      • As children, we put on a play about the “First Thanksgiving”. Children dress up as pilgrims, indians or turkeys!
    • Turkey
      • The typical food on Thanksgiving is a roasted turkey with many side dishes
      Sides include: Mashed Potatoes Stuffing Green bean casserole Macaroni and cheese Roasted corn Apple pies Pecan pies Pumpkin pies
    • Fall Harvest

    • Football
      • It is very traditional to watch American football on Thanksgiving
      • Some people go to see live games, but others watch at home on TV
      • Some neighborhoods and groups organize touch or flag football games to be outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather!
    • Here are a couple of Thanksgiving Day football fans!
    • Macy´s Parade
      • The Macy’s Day Parade is a tradition in New York City, but it is watched on TV throughout the country.
      • Many people watch the parade as part of their Thanksgiving tradition.
      • There are huge floats depicting everything from traditional thanksgiving scenes to characters from pop culture.

    • Black Friday Shopping
      • There is traditionally a huge sale the day after Thanksgiving
      • They offer great deals, but there are huge crowds.
    • The pilgrims were thankful for the help from the Indians. So Thanksgiving is a time to be thanksful! Most families go around the table and say something they are thankful for before eating.
