In this Thanksgiving presentation, students were introduced to the history behind the thanksgiving celebration in the U.S. Students also learned how the holiday is celebrated by Filipino-Americans. At the end of the presentation, students were made to reflect on some things they were thankful for. On the final slide, direct links for watching clips of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, Dora the Explorer's holidays special, and Dale Talde's account on Filipino-American thanksgiving are provided.

Thanksgiving
1.
2. In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is
celebrated on the last Thursday of November.
On those days, families gather together to eat
turkey, watch a parade on TV, and give thanks.
3. The story of Thanksgiving tells about a time (17th century) when
pilgrims sailed from Europe to the United States to start a
new life there. When they arrived, they had a hard time.
Thankfully, there were American Indians with whom they
became good friends. The Indians taught them how to farm
the land. When harvest season came, food was plentiful so
they all ate together and gave thanks.
4. Thanksgiving Day (Araw ng Pasasalamat) used to
be celebrated in the Philippines especially when it
was still an American colony. Today, only Filipinos in
the US celebrate it. For them, Thanksgiving is about
family, food, and above all being thankful.
5. Traditional Foods for Thanksgiving Dinner:
roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes,
cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie
6. Besides turkey and the other traditional
Thanksgiving foods, we also prepare Filipino
foods like lechón, arroz a la valenciana,
pancit (便食), and leche flan!
7. Macy's is a department store in the US. Every
year on Thanksgiving Day, it organizes a
parade of balloons and floats in New York City.
