2. THANKSGIVING DAY
It is a national holiday celebrated primarily in
the United States and Canada as a day of
giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest
and of the preceding year. Several other
places around the world observe similar
celebrations. It is celebrated on the fourth
Thursday of November in the United States
and on the second Monday of October in
Canada.

Before 1536 there were 95 Church
holidays, plus 52 Sunday
The 1536 reforms reduced the
number of Church holidays to 27,
but some Puritans wished to
completely eliminate all Church
holidays, including Christmas and
Easter.

drought in 1611, floods in 1613, and plagues
in 1604 and 1622. Days of Thanksgiving
were called following the victory over the
Spanish Armada in 1588 and following the

blessings of the (agricultural) year, including

The family members gather in the relative's
home older, the oldest, usually grandparents.
All together give thanks for all the good they
have and ask for blessings together to theirs.

charitable organizations offer traditional food to
the needy in their community, in particular the
homeless.

realizes a great parade for the streets of
Manhattan, New York, which attracts million
persons to the avenue Broadway to see the
enormous giant globes and to attend the actions
of invited artists.
11. Beginning of the season of purchases
The business majority and offices are closed on
this day. Some stores, malls, restaurants and
bars remain opened. Friday following the
holiday is traditional the opening of the season
of Christmas purchases. This day is known as
Black Friday. Stores and shops they all offer
prices of reduction and many people come from
the first hours of the day to the malls.
