Pyramids
By: Jon Gaulton
We will be talking about
Why some parts are gone now
Inside the pyramids.
How long it took them.
Why they built them.
Materials .
the oldest and youngest pyramid.
how big are they.
What they found around the pyramids.
Who made them.
Why are they the shape they are.
Why are some parts gone
?
Capstone other gold/or worshiped stone.
Capstone was stolen and destroyed with no
trace.
The outer walls were wight tura stone very slick
and shiny.
The tura stone was also stollen.
Inside the pyramids
South pointing air shafts: Built to provide ventilation same with
the north.
Chambers above the Kings chamber: there were five rough
chambers these chambers helped level weight of bigger stones.
Grand gallery: it's called this because it leads to the Kings
chamber from the chambers above the Kings chamber.
Queens chamber: they call it the queens chamber and it is the
lowest level other than the entry and the under ground chamber
no queen has never used the chamber.
How long it took them ?
People say that the pyramid of Giza was built in
20 years by about 100,000 workers.
And 10 years for the smaller ones and half the 3/4
as menu people.
Why did they build the pyramids
?
The ancient Egyptians built the pyramids as
tombs for the Pharos and gods.
The Pharos were buried in pyramids of many
different shapes and sizes before the
beginning of the old kingdom to the end of the
Middle Kingdom.
Materials
Many of pyramids were made with many
different types of stone the insides were rough
stone and lime stone and the out side was
smooth polished limestone .
Floors were made of basalt or alabaster.
Some important rooms had pink granite.
Oldest and youngest pyramids
The oldest pyramid is believed to be the
pyramid of Djoser which was built in the
saqqara Necropolis during the 27th century
B.C.
The youngest pyramid was built in 1790
B.C.thats when Egypt stopped making the
pyramids all together.
How big are the pyramids
Giza- H= 139 m W= 230 m
Bent- H= 101.1 m W= 188.6 m
Red- H= 104 m W= 220 m
Khafre- H= 143.5 m W= 215.5 m
What they found around the
pyramids
Archaeologists found buried people witch was
strange because they thought that it was
slaves who built the pyramids but they don't
mummify slaves so it had to have be skilled
workers.
And boats with tools and utilities buried with
and beside those people.
Who built the pyramids
They thought it was slaves
But after finding mummified bodies they new it
had to be special people like specialized
builders.
Why are they the shape they
are
They are this shape because they did not
need anything to hold the stones together
gravity held then in place.
And the planes were to make a quadrilateral
base that rose to a triangular point at the tip.
This what we talked about
