ASSURE Assignment
A) Teaching the months of the year to a first grade class, Special Education, 10 boys, 7 girls, 70%
white, 20% African American, and 10% Hispanic. Seven students have mild to severe ADHD.
S) First Grade students will recite the months of the year by watching a video that goes along with
the songs as well as splitting them up into groups and teaching them by the season. Also, ask them
when their birthday is and see what the most popular birth month is and ask them what their
favorite month is as well as their least favorite month and why, with 100% accuracy, by the end of a
five day week.
S) Overhead projector- to show images of the months of the year as a song play for the kids to listen
to. Also, I will need a space at the front of the room for the kids to stand when asked to speak about
the months.
U) I will need a working computer, projector, sound system/speakers, and the proper PowerPoint.
Make sure my PowerPoint is running smoothly. I will begin the lesson by telling them what they
have to do. I will make the presentation presentable and practice it before I show it to the children. I
will be sure to change between activities so the ADHD kids will not get bored.
R) To have kids participate I will have them sing along to the song and make it fun for them. (After
they have heard the song enough to sort of know it) I will also have them get into groups by birth
month and seeing what month has the most kids born in it. Also I will go around the room and ask
each kid what their favorite and least favorite month of the year is and why.
E) Throughout the activity I will have them talk to each other and help. Then I will give them a
chance to ask me questions and instead of just giving them the answer I will have them try and
proceed from their answers. If some of any of the kids are having trouble I will put them in
pairs/small groups and have them practice. I will also have the children do a practice run on
Thursday before they are asked to stand in front of the class and recite the months of the year.
