Six music video stills and their creative techniques
1. Six stills:
1.Taylor Swift “We are never getting back
together”
The video plays out the story that the
song’s lyrics are about. In this scene the
couple are on the phone to each other,
explained in the video using a split screen.
This fits in with the lyrics, shows how the
characters are represented in the video
and gives the video a realistic feel.
I feel we could use an effect like this in our video to explain the song to the audience
through the visuals.
2. Beyonce: Me Myself and I
This video is also telling a story however it is
playing the film backwards, finishing with what
she is doing at the present.
I feel this is a really good idea for our video, as it
is easy to do and gives a really good effect that
keeps the viewer interested.
3. Kanye West: Mercy
This video is very interesting as it seems to just
be one continuous shot for the entire song, with
a very simple background that makes the viewer
focus all their attention on the artist performing.
I feel that this would be a simple effect that
works well which we could use in our video, as
the colours, set up and background are easy to
recreate.
2. 4. Ben Howard “Keep Your Head Up”
This video is playing a narrative of mainly a man
alone in natural settings e.g. By a river, in a field, a
forest etc.
The lyrics fit indirectly with the visuals as they both
have a positive atmosphere and the visuals showing sunny scenes and simple
happiness. We could use the sunny, early morning look in our video as it also fits the
genre of music that we are using.
5. Coldplay ft Rihanna “Princess of China”
The video uses a narrative and performance by
both Chris Martin and Rihanna. The narrative
holds an ancient Chinese theme with many
different scenes for both artists. I feel our group
can take from this video that a lot of coverage
and different scenesmakes an interesting and
easily watchable video.
6. Example “Changed the way you kissed me”
This video includes a narrative and also a
performance by Example. The still ive chosen is a
slow motion simple shot of water droplets of the
bath running. The shot has a black and white
effect, giving it a more interesting look. I feel we
could use effects similar to this using shots of simple everyday actions then make them
interesting through adding post-production effects such as black and white and slow
motion.
