The masthead uses a serif font to boldly stand out. It’s also located in the left third of the cover so it’s clearly visible when stacked on a shelf. The limited colour pallet of red, black and white is also consistent throughout. The header shows what this particular issue will include. A sans serif font is used so it stands out amongst the other cover lines, this font is also used in the footer to create a link between the two. The main image is a medium close up of Dizzee Rascal. His white top, black jeans and red trainers also reflect the colour scheme used for the copy. The image anchors with the Main coverline ‘Dizzee Rascal’. It has been written in a serif font and can clearly be seen across the middle of the page so that readers know what the main article is about. The cover lines summarise what articles are inside the magazine. This particular one also uses a sans serif font so that the main cover line stands out more. The footer gives readers an insight as to what other artists will be featured inside. A pull quote has been taken from the Dizzee Rascal article as a summary of the topic talked about. The use of a red flash keeps in with the colour scheme to highlight important news. The bar code is always featured on a magazine cover.
The red, white and black colour scheme is continued from the front cover. The NME logo and contents title can clearly be seen on the black banner taking up the top third of the page. Sub headings are blocked out into black sub sections. Bold fonts have been used for brief headings compared to a smaller font for summaries of content. Page numbers are written in red to boldly stand out amongst the black copy. A red text box has also been used for the most important article of the magazine referred to in the header of the front cover. Yellow is said to be the first colour to attract attention which is why it has been used here to highlight important information. A brief introduction to the magazine is written inside an instrument box anchoring with touring element of the magazine. The main image of an artist pointing to a tour bus also contributes to this. The font used for ‘Touring Special’ has been made to look old and warn giving it more of a vintage rock ‘n’ roll feel. As this issue is a ‘tour special’ the colour scheme is reversed from the rest of the contents page. Band names are written in red with the page numbers in black so that the Band Index clearly stands out. The issue date is clearly positioned on the banner.
The By line is credit for the author and photographer. The main heading summarises the article. The bold serif capitals stand out against the white background and tie in with the colour scheme used on the front cover. The sub heading gives an insight as to what the article will be about. The Copy is written in more of a sans serif font so that it stands apart from the other text. Four columns have been used as well as a wrap around the image. The Drop cap attracts the readers to the starting point of the article. The date, page number and magazine title can be seen here in the bottom left third. A medium long shot has been used for the main image . Again the clothes Dizzee is wearing tie in with the red, white and black colour scheme. The graffiti wall background signifies his rebellious past linking with the topic of the article as well as the main heading ‘tags’. The Caption makes it easy for readers to find the page they’re looking for. The second image of beer bottles and a radio also signify Dizzee’s youth.
The company name is located in the top left third of the cover so it can clearly be seen when stacked on a shelf amongst other magazines. The masthead takes up the majority of the top third and is written in a serif font to reflect a fun ‘pop’ theme. Bright, bold, feminine colours are used throughout suggesting that the target audience is predominantly young girls. Cover lines are anchored with images. These give the reader an insight as to what articles are inside. The header can clearly be seen on a white background. The pull quote interests readers to the article inside. The main image is usually a shot of just one person however in this case, a medium shot of a band has been used. One Direction are mainstream pop artists in keeping with music genre of the magazine. The clothes they are wearing also link in with the limited colour pallet used. A bar code with the date and issue number is featured on every magazine cover. The flash contains the main cover line and highlights the most important article in the magazine. Fashion cover lines suggest a predominantly female readership. Celebrity gossip is something stereotypically associated with women which again suggests a female readership.
The contents title is designed to look hand written in order to create a friendly relationship with the reader. It can clearly be seen on the banner in the top third of the page. The limited colour pallet of pink and yellow also suggests a female readership. A smaller version of the magazine is used for the main image . Each cover line is pointed out with page numbers making it easier for the young audience to navigate through the magazine. Sub headings are blocked out into sub sections. Brief headings are written in bold to stand out above the summaries of content. Page numbers are consistently written in pink throughout. Yellow is used to highlight the specific articles readers would be most interested in. Smaller images are anchored with the articles mentioned e.g. ‘We <3 shopping’ is supported with an image of a bag. Repetition of the curled writing seen on the front cover creates consistency throughout the magazine. The Page numbers are located in the centre of bottom third. The One Direction image is bigger than the other images as they are a main area of interest for the target audience of girls aged around 10-15.
The hand written font is continued from the contents creating a sense of relation throughout. Pull quotes have been taken from the article highlighting the area’s the audience will most likely be interested in. A medium close up has been used for the main image . Their blue clothes also tie in with the colour scheme used on the front cover. The copy is written in only one column wrapping around the image. White writing has also been used to contrast against the grey background. Page numbers are continued from the contents page. Sub headings are written in a blue sans serif font to stand apart from the main body of the article. The text box and arrows directs the readers to the articles on the next page.
The mast head is positioned in the top third of the cover. The name Kerrang itself is symbolic of the guitar noise which also explains the use of a smashed glass effect used to highlight the rebellious rock and roll life style. The main cover line is written in the largest font as it’s seen to be the most important article. A flash reading ‘most revealing interview ever’ also makes the reader feel as if they’re going to hear new inside gossip about the artist. The cover lines summarise what articles are inside the magazine. In this case the heading is written in a bold white font to stand out above the summary. Some of the other more important cover lines have been anchored with images. The header is advertising discount offers and free items. It has been written on a yellow background because yellow draws in the readers attention first. The word free has also purposely been positioned in the top left corner so that it can clearly be seen when stacked on a shelf. Yellow has been used again to highlight information of most interest to the reader. Other bands featured in the magazine have also been summarised in the footer . The bar code , date and issue number are featured on every magazine cover. The main image anchors with the main cover line. Bring Me The Horizon are a rock band in keeping with the genre of the magazine. This medium close up shot clearly shows off his tattoo’s, contributing to the rock image of the magazine.
The contents title is written in yellow to immediately attract the reader’s attention. The issue number and date are also featured in the top left corner, where our eyes are drawn to first. The main image anchors with the main cover line and takes up half of the contents page. A white text box has also been used to contain the heading as well as the page number which is written over a star to signify the importance of the article. The banner contains the contents heading and Kerrang logo. A brief message from the magazine editor is anchored with a photograph. Sub headings are blocked out into black sub sections. The yellow font has been used again to highlight their importance. Some articles are also anchored with images. Red page numbers clearly stand out amongst the black copy. Headings use a bold font whereas the summaries are written much smaller.
This medium close up main image links to the cover image and main cover line. Again, his tattoo’s are clearly visible however, he’s pictured wiping them off suggesting to the readers that his identity is maybe a subject the article focus’ on. A pull quote has been taken from the magazine and used here to interest readers in the article so that they want to find out more. The copy of this article is an interview with Oli Sykes with the body of the text displayed in two columns. The questions are written in large capital letters whereas his answers use a much smaller font. These smaller images also anchor with the article. Arrows direct the reader to the next page where the interview continues. Also here in a small black text box is the page number. Another pull quote is featured in a small black text box in the bottom left third.

Tasks 1, 2 & 3 music magazine covers powerpoint

  • 3. The By line is credit for the author and photographer. The main heading summarises the article.
