Mental Attitude: For Kids, Being Bullied By Children May Be Worse Than Being Mistreated By Adults! An analysis of data
collected from over 5,000 adults indicates the long-term damage that results from being bullied by one's peers during childhood is
greater than being mistreated by adults during the same time frame. Lead researcher Dr. Dieter Wolke writes, "Our results showed
those who were bullied were more likely to suffer from mental health problems than those who were maltreated [by adults]… Being
both bullied and maltreated also increased the risk of overall mental health problems, anxiety, and depression in both groups." Dr.
Wolke concluded that being bullied is not a harmless rite of passage, and it has serious long-term consequences.

Health Alert: Women in the US Are Binge Drinking at an Alarming Rate. Among females, binge drinking is defined as
consuming four or more drinks in a single occasion. In recent years, the overall rate of binge drinking in the United States (US) has
increased and experts conclude that a major part of this increase is the rapidly rising rate of binge drinking behavior among women.
Between 2005 and 2012, investigators found that female binge drinking rose by nearly 18% while male binge drinking rose 5%.

Diet: Do You Need Folic Acid? Folic acid is mostly known for its importance in preventing birth defects, like spina bifida. However,
pregnant women aren’t the only people who need to take folic acid. The United States Department of Health and Human Services
suggests the following individuals may benefit from consuming more of the vitamin: women who are pregnant or want to become
pregnant, women with a family history of spina bifida, women with spina bifida who want to become pregnant, individuals taking
medication for chronic diseases, people on dialysis, those with sickle cell anemia, individuals with celiac disease or liver disease, and
people who drink more than one alcohol beverage daily. Department of Health and Human Services, May 2015
Exercise: Fitness Helps Fibromyalgia Patients. For patients with fibromyalgia, becoming more active may help reduce chronic
pain. A study involving 468 women with fibromyalgia found that higher physical fitness levels were associated with lower levels of
perceived pain and a lower likelihood that pain would negatively influence day-to-day life. Arthritis Care & Research, May 2015
Chiropractic: Fixations Bad, Adjustments Good for Muscles. An animal study has found that spinal joint fixations decrease spinal
muscle spindle response and that spinal manipulation to treat such fixations can maximize the spindle response. Muscle spindles are
sensory receptors within the belly of a muscle that detect changes in the length of muscle. The responses of muscle spindles play an
important role in regulating the contraction of muscles and also aid in proprioception - the body's ability determine the position of its
various parts in relation to one another. These finding support the benefits of skilled spinal manipulation to treat the negative effects of
joint fixation. Spine, April 2015
Wellness/Prevention: Do You Put Sunscreen on Your Back? It appears many individuals forget their back when thinking about
skin cancer prevention. Over 1,000 Americans were polled and more that a third said they rarely or never apply sunscreen to their
back when they spend time in the sun and nearly half said they never or rarely ask anyone to apply sunscreen to that area of the body.
Furthermore, more than half said they know how to perform a self-check for skin cancer, but only half actually conduct a self-
examination at least once a year. American Academy of Dermatology, May 2015
