  • 1. Top 10 Earth Science vocab.
    By: Tucker, Ben, Georgie, and Johnathan
  • 2. Convection current
    The transfer of thermal energy by the circulation or movement of a liquid or gas.
  • 3. P-waves
    A seismic wave that can travel through a liquid and a solid. The p stands for primary.
  • 4. S-waves
    A seismic wave that can travel only through solids. S-stands for secondary wave.
  • 5. Crust
    The thinnest layer of the Earth.
    It is the top layer on which we live on.
  • 6. Mantle
    The layer of rock between the earth’s crust and core.
  • 7. Inner core
    The solid, inner most layer of the earth.
    It is made up of iron and nickel.
  • 8. Waves of energy that travel through the Earth and away from an earthquake in all directions.
    Seismic waves
  • 9. Continental crust
    The layer of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock which form the continents.
  • 10. Oceanic crust
    The part of earth’s lithosphere that surfaces in the ocean basins.
  • 11. The liquid layer of earth that is between the lower mantle and inner core.
