3. • Tactic 1 (the Gist):
– Listen to the general idea
– Do not deepen your understanding yet
– The topics are generally outside the lecturing
areas, general talks, never technical or sicentific.

4. • Tactic 2 (Details):
– The texts are mostly lectures of different science
steams, mostly: Geography, Astronomy, Biology,…
– Listen thoroughly to the lectures
– Pay attention to details and always take notes
while listening

5. • Tactic 3 (Pragmatic Questions):
– Guess the gist, tactic 1
– Listen thoroughly to the lecture, tactic 2
– The meaning is always inferred (implicit) and not
explicit

6. • Tactic 4 (Speaker’s Stance):
– Identify the environment: noises, words used,…
– Be selective, the sentences which express the
speaker’s feelings
– Tone and sounds are paramount to understand
the stance

Organization):
– Focus on the main point
– Deduct the setting from the questions and
answers
– Trial test of the organization understanding at
least for 15mn
