1. Web Authoring: Protocols, Design Conventions and Software
Introduction
âIn this report I will be discussing, what web authoring is and explains protocols,
design conventions and software. And I will be talking about how the internet
works, and how to design website and host website online.
Web Authoring
Protocols, Design Conventions and Software.
Web authoring is broken to three topics Protocols, design conventions and
software, and I will be explaining all this through this assignment.
Protocols
There are three protocols found in web design, and protocols is another word for
rules, which the govern exchange the data information over the internet , the
protocols that are found in web design and are important, are Top Level Doman
Name, Doman Name, Domain Name Registrar.
âA Doman name is the name given to a website. For example the Domain
name of www.youtube.com is âyoutubeâ. This is registered through a Doman
Name Registrarâ
URL
Uniform resource locator, is web address it takes you to the page you looking for,
for example www.dailymail.co.uk , so when you click it takes you straight to the
website you looking for.
Domain name registration
Users that own their own website, if they want to buy a domain name, for
example, www.haverstock.com they would buy the domain names like, .co.uk
or .com depending on where their location is.
2. Web page naming conventions
Websites have different pages with navigation bars and tabs but with the same
URL, but itâs important that every page have suitable name for each page for
example.
Jobs =www.superdrug.jobs
Contact us= www.superdrug.com/page/contactus
Design Conventions
Designing a websites takes lot of time and dedication toward making it look
nice visually and I will be sharing all the design conventions you need to use to
make it look professionally nice, first is rule of third, colour schemes, fonts text
and the background.
Rule of third
Is usually used in all the successful websites, is essential way of designing a
webpage, example.
The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down
into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) so that you have 9 parts. With this grid in
mind the ârule of thirdsâ now identifies four important parts of the image that you
should consider placing points of interest in as you frame your image. Also it catches
the eye automatically and keeps the design of the page professional.
3. Color scheme
The color of your website its important, you have to make it look
professional and neat, use few colors, not to bright.
Example of bad website
This website has too many colors and you can see how it turned out, itâs not
professional and looks really bad, so itâs important to use limited colors that go with
what your website is representing.
Monochromatic
Monochromatic means one color, but it has different shades and tones, and itâs
really good to use it on your website because it looks really neat.
Example
4. Analogous
Color scheme is when you use colors that are similar.
Example
Complimentary
All the colors are opposite each other but when you look at it kind of works and
looks good together and the colors are always opposite each other on color
wheel.
Example
5. Fonts &text
These are two different two fonts serif and sans serif and both are important in
webpages because it makes it look visually nice.
Sans serif is bold and has no flicks and its more book kind of writing
fonts; serif has flicks on each letter and its more old style and its not
bold as sans serif. When doing website or publishing anything people
use sans serif because its more bold and clear to read and looks
better on the websites.
Backgrounds
The background of your page is important because it should have images and
single colors and patterns but not to much of it where the readers get distracted
of other important things on your page like the text and other important stuff on
there, so you have to keep it simple and easy to catch the eye.
Software
There are many different tools and software you can use when designing a
website, but there are two main ones.
6. HTML text editors
Is text based editors mostly people that are experienced with design website so
they would use notepads and on the notepad you would come across these
codes so you have to know them.
Example
â
is used to make a new paragraph: example â
text paragraph
,
is used to make line breaks between text: example â sentences
.â
Visual editors
Is software like Dreamweaver or FrontPage, which does most of the work for you
with the programming but visually you can see how itâs building.
Conclusion
This report has taught me the different aspects of web authoring including
design conventions, protocols, and software, fonts and text, doing this
assignment I learned how to make professional website, make it look good
visually, so now when I go on to make my own superhero website I can make it
look professional by using rule of third for example that would make it look good
visually.
