2. Ireland, they are very well known for some of the
superstitions and mythology. To start with, the
ancient settlers of the emerald isle were called
Tuatha Dé Danann and they were thought to be
the first professors of Druidism. They are also
thought to be proficient in sorcery and magic. As
the legend says, they were defeated by the sons
of Mil, who were thought to be the first Gael
conquerors. Instead of being vanished from the
land, they were shrunken size and were sent to
live among the planes, mounds and the hills of
Ireland.
3. Another Irish word for the fairy folk would
be the “Sidhe” or pronounced as “Shee”. A
banshee is a female fairy whose wail is to
be an omen of death. The banshee both
exist in Ireland and Scotland. The Irish
fears the wail of the banshee is actually
thought to be a great honor if she wails at
the time of your death.
4. Some Irish superstitions believed that a
crowing hen, a whistling girl and a black cat
are very unlucky to have in their homes.
However, having a hen and their chicks
wander in a home is considered to be very
lucky. Touching a hand of the seventh son
will cure rabid bites. Don’t ever turn off the
lights while at the dinner table, it is said that
there will be a one less person sitting there
by the end of the year.
