2. Climate change will impact water security
Changes in the water cycle are one of the main ways in which the impacts of climate change will be felt โ this includes increasing variability, increasing extremes (droughts, floods), and higher ambient temperatures (including warmer water temperatures).
Resilience to Climate Change is a necessity
GWP is responding to the climate change challenge through the Global Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP)
The Programme is linking water, climate and economic development agendas, strengthening coordination frameworks, and enhancing coherence, finance and institutional capacity

The goal is to promote water as a key part of sustainable regional and national development and contribute to climate change adaptation for economic growth and human security
The overall objective is to support integration of water security and climate resilience in development planning and decision making processes

โข30 government institutions and other stakeholders in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe were capacitated to integrate water security and climate change in the design and implementation of policies, plans and projects
โข34 national organisations were supported in developing legal frameworks/policies/strategies, sectoral and development plans integrating water security and climate resilience
โขNine regional organisations were supported in developing agreements, commitments and investment options and tools that integrate water security and climate resilience
โขThree organisations were supported in the development of investment strategies supporting policies and plans which integrate water security for climate resilience
