 Songify is a FREE app available on iTunes.
 Your students will feel like stars!
 Its uses are endless in language classes.
 Record each student speaking target vocabulary in a group
setting (i.e., around a circle).
 Record individual students reciting poems, lines from books,
target dialogue.
 Highly motivating for elementary level. Use as culminating
"reward" for mastering vocabulary.
 Effective for sharing with parents via email.
• Present with a variety of media, including digital
media or visual displays, short oral messages or
reports about familiar topics
• Written and spoken short notes and messages and
brief reports about themselves, people and things
in their environment
• Research, organize and present a topic
• Identify and appreciate differences in cultural
perspectives within a defined range of topics
• Explain a local or global practice, product or issue.
COMMON CORE STANDARDS
• Recognize that cognates and previously
learned structures enhance comprehension of
spoken and written language.
• Use content knowledge learned in other
subject areas to comprehend spoken and
written messages
What is CI?
Language that can be understood by listeners despite
them not understanding ALL the words and structures.
Sub-conscious Language / Natural Language /
understandable messages / GIVING of Language
What can CI look like in the language classroom?
STORIES CHARADES EITHER/OR QUESTIONS / PQA
SKITS GAMES YES/NO QUESTIONS / PERSONALIZED
PUPPETRY SONGS VISUAL CUES / GESTURES
CI TO AVOID THIS
 Google Voice gives you one phone number that is tied to
you. You can choose to have that phone number ring any
phone you’d like. Students will hear your voice when they
call an assigned number.
 When it comes to students who are shy or very nervous
about talking in front of the whole class, it helps them
develop appropriate oral communicative skills. Most
students have an easier time recording a quick message
than trying to produce language in the classroom setting. All
students (at least in the US) have access to phones.
 App available on iTunes (for iPhone or iPad)

AS A TEACHER TOOL
•Create videos to introduce or review vocabulary
•Increase student interest and comprehensible input
AS A STUDENT TOOL
•Student can write short messages with photos to friends &
family
•Students can animate stories they have written
Can be used as a teacher or student
tool to increase interest,
comprehensible input, introducing or
reviewing vocabulary, creating stories
and writing short notes to friends
 A tool used to collaborate with people from
different countries or schools to assess reading,
speaking, writing and listening skills.
 Language students can practice their
computer skills and their language skills to talk
about everyday activities.
 Students can practice speaking as many times
as they like before sharing with teachers and
classmates. For my students, the ability to do
something over and over again and the ability
to listen as many times as one wishes is
priceless.

vocabulary learned, and to review listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
• Assign student a specific slide number
•Create your own game

for specific categories as
a review of several
topics
