The SIMSpray is a 3D experience which will train a student how to use proper paint gun techniques while avoiding hazardous fumes and costly materials. This training aid can be used to prepare a student with the basics of paint gun techniques prior to spraying paint in a paint booth. It is an engaging training aid geared toward the students who are playing video games.

    • SIMSPRAY TIM GRAUBERGER, INSTRUCTOR MORGAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE
    • TIM GRAUBERGER, INSTRUCTOR COMMENTS • The students are better prepared before we go to the paint booth • It is not a substitute for actual hands-on spraying, but it gives the students a head start • It does help us reduce the environmental impact by using less paint • It is a great tool to use for recruiting students • It does have limitations replicating brands of paint
    • BRUSH 5TH GRADERS COME TO MCC FOR CAREER DAY Ana and Cristian (in maroon shirts) help a 5th grader use the SimSpray
    • ANA 1ST YEAR STUDENT Results: 93% Good, 8% Thin, 1% Thick
    • ANA’S COMMENTS • Helps you practice how to hold your hand and proper paint gun technique • Gives you practice for your arm position and motion • Helps you learn to control your speed while spraying • Gives you practice on different car parts
    • DEVIN ST 1 YEAR STUDENT Results: Good 59%, Thin 41%, Tick 0%
    • DEVIN’S COMMENTS • It is helpful when you first start spraying • Gives you an idea what it’s like so when you go to the shop you have a feel for spraying
    • ST ALEX1 YEAR STUDENT Results: Good 78%, Thin 22%, Thick 0%
    • ALEX’S COMMENTS • My uncle took this class and they didn’t have the SimSpray • It is the greatest tool to start with so you get an idea about your speed, lapage, and coverage before you waste product in the shop
    • CRISTIAN ST 1 YEAR STUDENT
    • CRISTIAN’S COMMENTS • This helps with technique, distance, spray pattern, and overlap • It shows how much coverage you need • We painted every day for 1-2 weeks before we painted in the shop • I went with Tim to the Brush High School and it drew a lot of interest and got students to sign up for the program
    • CONCLUSION • This has been very useful for the Auto Collision Repair Program at MCC • It helps with recruiting new students • It helps students practice spraying before going to the shop • It gives us another tool for the program • Although it does not replace actual spraying, it is one more way to show students how to paint and gives them some practice
