1. How did you use media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stages?

2. For the construction of my music video I used
software called Mind Genius to create a mind map.
This mind map allowed me and my group to collate
our ideas together and then create a storyboard from
this. This storyboard then came under the planning
section of our video. The storyboard made it easy to
visualise what we had to do for each shot and each
line of lyrics.

3. Another piece of software which we used in our
construction stages was Adobe Photoshop. This was
to create my two ancillary projects. A strength when
using this software was that the editing tools were
effective and allowed me to add effects to
photographs to make them look more professional.
An effect that I used was the brightness and hue tool;
this was to make the photo look of a better quality. In
order for the photo to look like it would belong on an
actual media product.

makes the camera look of a better
quality and also looks more like a
real media product.

5. A weakness of this software is that it is extremely
time consuming as it takes a lot of time to add the
effects and change the picture the way you want to
change it. Also, the colour pick tool did not pick the
whole my artist therefore I had to use the lasso tool
which is difficult to control to select my artist’s head to
darken the background behind her. However, I
managed to deal with this problem effectively and I
am happy with my end result.
Weaknesses

6. Other pieces of technology I used in the
construction stages were the iPhone 5 and a
standard Panasonic video recorder. This was to
film the footage for my video. The most
effective video shot was recorded on the
iPhone 5, as this was in HD however, we had to
change the composition of the shot to make it
un-HD so that it matched the footage from our
Panasonic video camera. The Panasonic
recorder produced shots lower in quality than
the iPhone 5; therefore if I created another
video in future I would perhaps use just the
iPhone 5 to record my footage.

7. When editing and putting together my footage I used
Adobe Premiere. This was an effective piece of software
as it allowed me to add effects between clips; this allowed
my clips to transcend smoothly. A simple cross dissolve
made the video look more professional and allowed lots of
different clips to be joined together easily. However, a
limitation of this software was that it was hard to use and
after the cross dissolve tool we would get a red flash
appearing before the clip. This was a problem that me and
my group had to fix and this problem took time out of our
production diary, meaning we had to make the overall
video faster than we expected.

8. When researching for my product I used the Internet to
look at other pop artists and what conventions their media
products used. This involved using Google images to
search CD album covers and posters. I also used You
Tube regularly so that I could look at elements in
conventional videos of the pop genre. I used Microsoft
Word and software called Prezi to evaluate my final media
product. As I used one computer for the construction,
research, planning and evaluation of my media product
this demonstrates how via technological convergence, a
media product can be designed from the original planning
stages to completion.
