    Venice Venice Presentation Transcript

    •  Venice is a city in Italy which is renowned for the beauty of it seeing,its architecture and its artworks. It is the capital of the Veneto region. There were 270.098 people residing in Venice. It’s described by the Times as being one of Europe’s most romantic cities. The historic center of Venice consists of 118 small islands.
    •  THE GRAND CANAL  Is the main street of Venice.  Is about 4 km and divides the city in two:  The eastern part  The west part.
    •  SAN MARCO  It’s located in the southeast of Venice.  It has always benn the core of the city since it was founded.
    •  SAN POLO & SANTA CROCE  It measures only 34 hectares,is the smallest “sestiere” of Venice.  It includes the Rialto area,which is the oldest of the city,and its limit is the Grand Canal.
    •  CASTELLO  Castello is the largest and most hetereogeneous “sestiere” of the city.  It extends from San Marcos to Cannareggio west and also to the modern east Sant Elena.
    •  DORSODURO  Is the most southern part of Venice and it’s named for the hardness and the floor elevation.
    •  CANNAREGIO  Is in the northwest part of Venice and here lives the third part of the population of Venice.
    •  Venice is a tourist destination all year. The season with more tourists is from April to October,especially in the months of July and August. In this period of time is impossible to find a hotel if you haven’t booked. Carnival and Christmas are also periods with many tourists. But the best time of the year to avoid the crowds and enjoy Venice are the weeks before Easter.
    •  Venice has over 200 hotels. Sleep in Venice is expensive.If you want to save on the price of the hotel, it’s better to sleep in the cities around Venice.
    •  MASKS:  The masks are a symbol of Venice and its carnival.
    •  JEWELRY AND ANTIQUES
    •  Venetian specialties are based on fresh seasonal products:meat,cheese,fish, seafood,polenta and different types of rice. Venetian sweets are famous because they are delicious;cookies,cakes and sweets as “bussulai” with cinnamon,”baicoli”,oval and the “mandolato”.

    •  BRIDGE OF SIGH:  It’s the bridge that where prisoners made their last sigh because theyknow that they had lost their freedom and it was the las time that they could see the daylight before entering to the cells.
    •  RIALTO BRIDGE  Is the oldest of the four bridges that cross the Grand Canal and probably the most famous of the city.
