Venice

  1. 1.  Venice is a city in Italy which is renowned for the beauty of it seeing,its architecture and its artworks. It is the capital of the Veneto region. There were 270.098 people residing in Venice. It’s described by the Times as being one of Europe’s most romantic cities. The historic center of Venice consists of 118 small islands.
  2. 2.  THE GRAND CANAL  Is the main street of Venice.  Is about 4 km and divides the city in two:  The eastern part  The west part.
  3. 3.  SAN MARCO  It’s located in the southeast of Venice.  It has always benn the core of the city since it was founded.
  4. 4.  SAN POLO & SANTA CROCE  It measures only 34 hectares,is the smallest “sestiere” of Venice.  It includes the Rialto area,which is the oldest of the city,and its limit is the Grand Canal.
  5. 5.  CASTELLO  Castello is the largest and most hetereogeneous “sestiere” of the city.  It extends from San Marcos to Cannareggio west and also to the modern east Sant Elena.
  6. 6.  DORSODURO  Is the most southern part of Venice and it’s named for the hardness and the floor elevation.
  7. 7.  CANNAREGIO  Is in the northwest part of Venice and here lives the third part of the population of Venice.
  8. 8.  Venice is a tourist destination all year. The season with more tourists is from April to October,especially in the months of July and August. In this period of time is impossible to find a hotel if you haven’t booked. Carnival and Christmas are also periods with many tourists. But the best time of the year to avoid the crowds and enjoy Venice are the weeks before Easter.
  9. 9.  Venice has over 200 hotels. Sleep in Venice is expensive.If you want to save on the price of the hotel, it’s better to sleep in the cities around Venice.
  10. 10.  MASKS:  The masks are a symbol of Venice and its carnival.

  12. 12.  Venetian specialties are based on fresh seasonal products:meat,cheese,fish, seafood,polenta and different types of rice. Venetian sweets are famous because they are delicious;cookies,cakes and sweets as “bussulai” with cinnamon,”baicoli”,oval and the “mandolato”.
