After discussing within our group, we came up with many different names for the title of our film. We then asked the peers in
our class, which represent our target audience; which one they thought was the most appealing and suitable, after giving them
a brief narrative of our film. We also asked our teachers opinion as to which she thought were the best name. This was very
useful because our class is all female and so was our teacher, which is the genre that our promotional package is aimed at. The
top three names were ‘Deception’, ‘Happy Ever After’ and ‘The Chosen One’. Below are some of the reasoning’s as to why:
Shani (Peer 1) - “I think that Happy Ever After is the most appealing to me, because of the fact you are playing on
words. Obviously your film if based around the genre of Horror and furthermore the sub-genre Possession, ‘Happy
Ever After’ makes me think that this film will have a happy ending and good will triumph over evil. But commonly in
Possession films the evil is never really defeated and will always remain so this takes away the audiences self-sense of
security.”
Alice (Peer 2) – “Deception is quite effective as you are using a young child as the antagonist. This shows that the
family are easily deceived by this little girl (Elle) who is unusual as young girls are portrayed to be innocent and pure.
The name shows how the family are easily led by her charm especially John (the father).”
Teacher – “The Chosen One is standing out for me, the name links to a lot of your narrative which shows that you as a
group have been able to achieve a symbiotic link throughout your work. Not only was Elle chosen by the devil when he
latched himself onto her, but she is also the child that the couple Rebecca and John decide to adopt. I think that’s a
very effective name to use”.
A lot of conferring took place until we finally decided that we thought ‘The Chosen One’ was most definitely the name for us. It
is extremely effective and as our teacher stated it does link in with our narrative. We chose ‘The Chosen One’ because we felt
that it leaves our audience guessing why she was the chosen one and why she is possessed; it leaves a lot of mystery, which
entices the audience to come and watch the film. We had never heard of a similar film name before so we felt this would also
be effective and let the audience indulged in this new film.
The reason that we chose not to use any of the other names is because we feel that they are too basic and they sounded very
simplistic compared to the one we chose. The names didn’t seem like realistic film names and when saying them aloud they
sounded very cheesy; some names even sounded like they should be action films or family films and did not suit the genre of
Horror.
