4. What is Cancer?
• Cancer is a disease where cells grow out of control and invade and destroy
normal cells

5. What is Lung Cancer?
• Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that start off in
one or both lungs; usually in the cells that line the air passages. The
abnormal cells do not develop into healthy lung tissue, they divide rapidly
and form tumors.

6. Epidemiology
• Lung cancer is the most common cancer in men worldwide with 33.8 per
100,000, and
• it is the fourth most frequent cancer in women (13.5 per 100,000)
• Globally, lung cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer,
with 1.38 million deaths recorded in 2008

7. Symptoms of Lung Cancer?
• A cough that does not go away or gets worse.
• Coughing up blood or rust-colored sputum (spit or phlegm)
• Chest pain that is often worse with deep breathing, coughing, or laughing.
• Hoarseness.
• Weight loss and loss of appetite.
• Shortness of breath.
• Feeling tired or weak.

– Nausea and vomiting
– Constipation
– Blood disorders
– Nervous system effects
– Hair Loss

• Reachers theorise 90% of all lung cancers could be avoided by not smoking
• Changing lifestyle or eating habits.
• Avoiding things known to cause cancer.
• Taking medicines to treat a precancerous condition or to keep cancer from
starting.
