 Comparability across schools, non-association independent
schools, further education and skills providers and registered
early years providers
 Four graded judgements across all remits
 leadership and management
 teaching, learning and assessment
 personal development, behaviour and welfare
 outcomes for children and learners
 and emphasis on safeguarding and curriculum

4. Short inspections – a reminder
A different kind of inspection
 Strong focus on dialogue
 Two judgements:
 is the school continuing to be good;
 is safeguarding effective?
 When do we convert?
 A short inspection will not change any of the graded
judgements, nor the overall effectiveness grade
 About every three years

5. Changes to the way we work
Direct contracting /changes to inspection workforce
 Total control over sourcing, training, contracting and
oversight of wider inspection workforce
 Tighter selection criteria for inspectors
 Increasing the proportion of inspectors that are current
practitioners
 Much closer links between contracted Ofsted Inspectors
(OI) and Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI)
