2. What I’m about
•I’m
Nikki
• Interests include:
• Virtual •Culture &
Communities Media Major
at Lang
• Transnational
Communities
• Culture &
Customs
3. • “In a tribal all-at-once culture, the idea of
the public”...individuals, all dissimilar but
all capable of acting in basically the same
way”
• “...an integral collective
awareness that
transcends conventional
boundaries of time and
space”
4. Concept
• I wanted to do something
that shows how the
computer can transcend
borders (physical borders
as well as time).
• I chose to select a
landmark where people of
all countries and cultures
vacation and take all of
their individual pictures to
create one cohesive image
showing a single place
created by many different
participants
6. Methodology
• Flickr’s visual social network
• I gathered all of the photos of the
Pantheon and combined them into
one cohesive photo
• I chose to not perfectly glue
everything together as each photo is
that person’s view, memory and
experience of the Pantheon, I didn’t
want to alter each person’s
experience but to combine all of the
mismatched ones
7. Final Results
• A 2D
cohesive
image as
well as a
3D
interactive
view of
the
Pantheon
8. Conclusion
• To me, the internet has
an incredible ability to
connect people across
physical borders. My
project shows that
people from all over
have had the same
experience of going to
the same place and
taking the exact same
photo to bring home to
share or have as a
momentum. Social
networks create social
spaces which is making
our world much smaller.
