A WEATHER FORECAST is a report
that tells us what the weather is likely to
be today, tomorrow or next week.
You can see or hear weather forecasts on
TV, radio, on the Internet or in
newspapers. Weather forecasts help us
to plan our lives:
• We can wear warm clothes if the
weather will be cold
• We can take an umbrella with us if it
is going to rain
The person who tells us about the
weather is a WEATHER FORECASTER.
e-Learning for the Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural Disasters
After watching the weather forecast, take some basic steps whenever
you go outside and decide if you need to:
 Wear warm clothes
 Take a waterproof coat
 Take a hat, gloves and a scarf
 Take your mobile phone with you and make sure it is charged

an emergency. If a storm or other emergency happens, you all need to
know how to stay safe.

You should try to foresee all the risks and the plan should guide you
step by step on how to help each other and stay safe.

WHAT TO DO IN A POWER CUT
Check out the
neighbours’ houses – If
your neighbours still
have power but your
home doesn’t, it is likely
that the problem lies
with your own fuses or
trip switches. If there is
no power to the whole
street then an adult
should contact your local
energy supplier to
inform them and ask for
information

Switch off appliances – Unplug
sensitive appliances such as
TVs, satellite equipment and
computers. Switch off all
electrical appliances that may
have been in use when the
supply was interrupted, but
should not be left unattended
such as cookers, electric fires,
irons and hair straighteners.

Leave, or switch on, at least one
light so you will know when
the power has been restored.

GOOD TO KNOW - a full freezer
will stay colder for longer, so if
your freezer is only partially full
then consider freezing containers
of water to fill the empty space!
