Position: Assistant Manager in Labour Relations
My role is to support the Director Labour Relations with the alignment of Labour Relations to the
operational objectives, plans and policies of Department of Health. I lead a full spectrum of Labour
Relations operations with a staff compliment of labour relations officials and an Intern. I also coached the
HR Intern on general Labour Relations matters in preparation for permanent employment in the Public
Sector and beyond e.g Private Sector. As a Labour Relations assistant manager, my functions also
include the following:
Negotiate collective bargaining matters/agreements
Interpret Collective Bargaining Agreements and ensure compliance in the workplace.
Advise employer and employees on labour relations issues
Manage employee discipline, discharge and grievances
Conduct employee misconduct internal investigations and report writing
Train employer and employees regarding Labour issues
Represent Employer at Bargaining structures and CCMA.
Facilitate and draft Labour Policies.
Deal with strikes within the workplace (come up with contingency plans)
Have a database on cases
Previouse Chairperson and vice chairperson of the Provincial Public Health and Social
Development Bargaining chamber (PHSDSBC).

My role was to support the Deputy Director Labour Relations with the alignment of Labour Relations to
the operational objectives, plans and policies of Department of Education. Deal with employees who are
non - Educators complaints and grievances. I was responsible for dispute resolution within the Provincial
Office, by representing the employer at CCMA and ELRC.

Negotiates collective bargaining agreements with the union.
Manages grievance procedures to handle complaints that result from disputes with unionized
employees over the collective bargaining agreement, work rules, and interpretation of the
meaning of the contract.
Advises and works with Human Resources staff and other managers of unionized employees to
ensure compliance with the contract.
Consults with Human Resources, managers, to get input into aspects of personnel policy such as
wages, benefits, pensions, and work rules and practices that may be negotiation points in
Collective Bargaining or referred disputes.
