There are some usefultechniques associated withthe Grammar-TranslationMethod
1. Translation of a Literary PassageStudents translate a reading passage from thetarget language into their native language. Thereading passage then provides the focus forseveral classes: vocabulary and grammaticalstructures in the passage.For example : I have a big clean house.Saya mempunyai rumah besar yang bersih.Vocabulary : Adjective (big and clean)Noun (house)Verb (have)
2. Antonyms/SynonymsStudents are given one set of words and areasked to find antonyms in the readingpassage. A similar exercise could be done byasking students to find synonyms for aparticular set of words. Or students might beasked to define a set of words based on theirunderstanding of them as they occur in thereading passage.
3. Fill in the blanksStudents are given a series of sentences withwords missing. They fill in the blanks withnew vocabulary items or with items of aparticular grammar type, such as prepositionsor verbs with different tenses.
