1. Conjunctions – Although, Though
And Even though
Conjunction – It is a word which links two
clauses, groups or words.
Although & though - You can use “although”
or “though” or “even though” to introduce a
subordinate clause in which you mention
something which contrasts with what you are
saying in the main clause.
2. Sentence Construction with Although and Though :
• Although it is a bit late, I’d quite like to go out.
Notice that when a sentence begins with Although or
Though, a comma is used to separate the first clause from
the second.
• I was still glad to come home although I enjoyed
my stay in the USA.
• Though he is rich, he is not proud.
• He is not proud though he is rich.
• Although he is almost bald, he combs his tuft
daily.
• He combs his hair daily although he is almost
bald.

3. Warning : When a sentence begins with
although or though or even though you do
not use ‘but’ or ‘yet’ to introduce the main
clause. You do not say, for example,
Although he was late, but he stopped to buy a sandwich.
Or
Even though you disagree with her, yet she’s worth listening to.
You should say :
Although he was late, he stopped to buy a sandwich.
and
Even though you disagree with her, she’s worth listening to.
4. Warning : You also do not use although or
though in front of a noun group.
You do not say, for example,
Although his hard work, he failed his exam.
You should say,
In spite of his hard work, he failed his exam. or
Despite his hard work, he failed his exam. or
Although he had worked hard, he failed his exam.
5. Conjunction – Even Though
Even though has a similar meaning to
‘although’ but is more emphatic. Like
‘although’ and ‘though’, we use even
though to emphasize a contrast.

2. I was always afraid of girls even though I had lots
of girl friends.
