How we can use those two things above to talk
about our purpose?
3. PART 1: SO THAT
We often use “ so that” with modal verbs (can, will, would, should,
,must, etc).
Look at the examples:
1. I will go by car so that I can take more luggages.
2. I have made some sandwiches so that we can have a snack on the
way.
3. I will post the CD today so that you will get it by the weekend.
4. PART 2 : IN ORDER TO
We use “in order to” also to express purpose or reason in English. How do we
connect two sentences by using “in order to”:
Main clause + in order to + Infinitive clause
Main clause = a clause that can form a complete sentence. It has a subject and a
predicate.
Infinitive clause = a part of sentence which is started by verb 1 .

1. He got up early in order to catch the plane.

1. In order to be rich, you must use your mind.

6. TRY THIS OUT! (Choose “so that” or “in order to” to combine the
sentences!
1. I’m studying very hard nowadays … I can pass my class.
