3. Immediate editing technique used and why?
Within horror trailers you seem to find
a variety of CGI shots such as this one.
The house being set on fire. CGI
provides more of a scene to make it
look more scary however at times it
can look unrealistic.
Pace also matters within a trailer due to
the intensity of the atmosphere. For
example if a person is creeping up behind
another ready to murder them it will be
at a slow pace as the character gets
closer to the victim the pace increases
and the volume control also increases.
4. How does the pace change and why?
The pace is normally establishes at the start
of the trailer as normal and natural to give
the audience a real feel of an actual
everyday atmosphere.
When there is an issue within the
storyline (within the trailer) tension
starts to build. For example a character
approaching another to attack them,
the pace gradually increases until it
reaches a point where the attack
happens. That is when the tension falls.
5. What editing technique is used in
different genres and why?
• In a typical drama movie you tend to find a lot of shot reverse
shot and eye line matching. This portrays the way the
characters communicate with each other through eye contact.
• Within a thriller movie there is usually fast pace editing and
slow pace editing. This is used to depict the atmosphere the
characters are living in. If its fast pace editing it is an intense
scene with a mysterious atmosphere.
• In action movies cross cutting is mainly used to build the
tension and show both sides of the action. Until the
characters see each other eye line match and shot reverse
shot is there to also increase the intensity.
6. How does the editing connect/ compliment
the plot and the narrative structure?
• The pace for a horror movie would be very
slow to create intensity within the sequence.
However the pace increases according to the
actions happening within the scene.
• If the editing does not match the genre it will
confuse the audience because the editing can
link with the conventions. For example editing
CGI with blood splattering everywhere. This is
what is expected within the horror genre.
7. What editing skills did you find inspirational?
• I thought that the warning titles were
interesting and gave more of a mystery by
allowing the audience to question what they
are meaning.
• I liked the use of CGI working with the fire
blowing up the place and slashing someone's
neck with blood flooding the room.
