2. What are the narrative conventions?
• The narrative conventions can sometimes be
different because sometimes it can be linear
so that everything falls in place and that
nothing confusing.
• But sometimes like in a supernatural horror
movie it would sometimes have a non-linear
narrative because there my be flash backs to
why the supernatural is haunting the
character. Or why that supernatural is existing.
3. What is the narrative structure?
• Like in ‘The House October Built’ the
narrative structure is chronological order.
Everything that happens is in order.
In ‘Nothing To Fear’ the movie was in non
chronological order because it was taking
random parts of the movie and put in order
but put in a way that it made sense as to
what was happening and didn’t give a lot
away.
The ‘Haunt’ is in non
chronological order because
they take random parts of the
movie and put it together and
make sense at the same time.
4. What unrestricted structure is there ?
• The supernatural horror when the trailers lets
the audience know only a certain amount of
how many characters die and who.
• Sometimes they let the audience know why
the supernatural happened in the trailers
because what might be more important is
how it happened. They only reveal a certain
extent in order to still have enigma in the
trailer.
5. What restricted narrative is there?
In supernatural horror the restricted narrative is
when the trailer only lets you know that there is
a supernatural presence ion the place and it
wants to kill anything in its pathway but they
don’t let you know any history of the
supernatural and how it happened or why its on
the urge to get revenge on the people present
in the house or the place.
6. What are the enigmas the audience is
left with?
• Supernatural horrors enigma’s:
• Why the supernatural is happening?
• Why it wants revenge?
• What happened to turn that person into a
supernatural killing machine?
• Who will survive?
• Will the curse go on?
