2. Introduction
Children are more likely to be curious when
presented with music, games and total
physical response activities, and therefore
are more likely to learn knowledge.
There are many tips for Teaching Young ESL
Students. Now we will see some of them.
3. Supplement activities with
visuals, realia, and movement
Use brightly colored visuals, toys, puppets or
objects.
Community donations for toys and objects.
Create a “Visuals and Realia Bank”.
Use Total Physical Response (TPR).
(Realia: Objects or activities used by teachers
to demostrate real life. Objects that educators
use to help students understand other
cultures and real life circumstances; real
things, things that are real.)
4. Total Physical Response (TPR)
TPR is a method of teaching language using
physical movement to react to verbal input in
order to reduce students inhibitions and lower
their affective filter, namely is an approach to
teaching a second languaje, based on
listening linked to physical activities.
TPR is fun and easy and is a good tool for
learning vocabulary, but is limited, since
everything cannot be explained with this
method. It must be combined with other
approaches.
5. Mr. Feel Good
It is a puppet named Mr. Feel Good.
Introduce SS to Mr. Feel Good.
Explain to SS that Mr. FG likes to see SS
getting along with each other, trying to do
their best, and helping each other.
Place Mr. FG in a prominent location in the
class and remind SS that he will be watching
them each day.
At the end of each day, use Mr. FG to
compliment SS who have had a good day.
