Module Polymers: Through this module, students examine the different properties of the variety of polymers. Then they design and test a humidity sensor made of a polymer film. Finally, they are asked to design their own products.
This project explores the basic physics of bridges. The goal is that the student will develop an understanding through experimentation of which shapes are the most structurally strong, and that many factors are taken into account in engineering and building. The project provides a practical application of physics to a real-world context. We add rubber to sand, cement ,gravels and water .

3. What is a polymer ?
• A polymer is Poly- means "many" and -mer means
"part" or "segment". Mono means "one". So,
monomers are those itty bitty molecules that can join
together to make a long polymer chain
4. At first we took 2 beakers and put 0.5g of polyacrylamide in them :
Beaker (A) Beaker (B)
Pure water Salty water
Picture
We added 10ml of pure water we
waited for 10min.
We added 10ml of pure
water and then we waited
for 10min.
Procedure
We filter it using a filter paper and
the result was 9.39g and we
repeated the same procedure but
this time we used salty water
instead of using pure water after
that we used a filter paper to filter
it and the result was 6.30g.
We filtered it using filter
paper and the result was
9.49g and after that we
repeated the same
procedure And again we
filtered it and the result was
16.63g.
Results
5. Activity 1: Changing polymer
The conclusion:
pellets.
• 1)This polymer has the ability to absorb water
and this polymer kind is the cross-linked
polymer.
• .
• 2)It has the choice to absorb or release water by
the process diffusion.
• .
• Explanation :The process when the polymer
absorbs is because of the polarization.
6. Activtity2, Hunting for polymer
products.
Types of polymers:
Natural polymers Synthetic polymers
starch
cellulose
wood
polyethylene
polystyrene
polyacrylamide
7. Activity 3, Comparing the viscosity
of liquids.
.
What is viscosity ?
.
Viscosity is the resistance of liquid to flow
8. Activity 3, Comparing the viscosity
Procedure :
of liquids.
• We used three different liquids in this activity
(methanol , ethylene glycol , glycerol ) we compared
the viscosity of them to know which liquid has the
most viscosity and which one has the least
9. Activity 3, Comparing the viscosity of
Results :
liquids.
Viscosity polymer Molecular weight
high Glycerol 92
medium Ethylene glycol 62
low Methanol 32
10. Activity 3, Comparing the viscosity of
Conclusion :
liquids.
• The more molecular weight a polymer has the
more viscosity it will have .
• We also know the difference by shaking the bottle
and if the bubbles in it moved quickly it means that
it has less viscosity and if it moves slowly it means
that it has high viscosity.
12. Activity 4 , Testing the strength
of different polymers
Part (A):
• We use 9 micro slides each three of them
have different kind of polymer solutions which
is ( polyvinyl acetate ) :
• PVAC100,000.
• PVAC170,000.
• PVAC260,000.
• And after that we filmed cast on the slide and
let them dry for 48 hours.
13. Activity4,Testing the strength
Part (B) :
Of different polymers.
• After the drying process we took the micro slides
and we test the strength of each polymer film.
15. Activity4,Testing the strength
Of different polymers.
Conclusion :
• We realized from the reading of
the table that PVAC100,000 Strengthen
faster than PVAC260,000.
• when the polymer has low concentration it will
be more flexible but if it had high concentration
in it will be less flexible ( Intangible ).

18. 2)We mix the three
polymers
1)At first we mark
the pipet at 4.8 cm..
6)Then we time it

5)Then we take it and
put it under a blow drier
19. Designing Project: Designing a
Humidity sensor
The slide will turn to
pink as soon as it
touches humidity
When we blow dry it
will turn back to being
blue again cause there
is no more humidity
effecting on it
20. -We realized in this experiment that it took more
time for it to turn pink (in humidity) then to turn
blue(without the existing of humidity )
21. The problem of the research:
Theses days there are many car explosions
due to the overheated car gasoline, so how
to fight that ?
23. By putting and sensors in cars will
prevent car explosions , how?? What will happen is
that the ( polydiacetylen ) will indicate the heat so
when the heat is up it will change the color and the
sensor will see the specific color it will give an alarm
so that the driver will park the car and to get out of
it before it explodes
24. -By this project we will save many souls around
the world ,also saving money that will be gone
because of explosions and also keep our
environment from air pollution by that we will
save our ozone layer from being more damaged
then it already is
25. This project can be also applied in gas rooms in the petrol stations
has many benefit since also the petrol station can be explode so it
we also recommend people to take care when they are driving like
checking the engine temperature and we recommend the country to
advice citizens and make lectures about that so we can reduce that
environment pollution that is affected by the explosion and save
people's lives.
