Sikhism began in the 1500s in the Punjab region led by Guru Nanak. There were 10 human Gurus who passed leadership to the next appointed successor until the 10th Guru appointed the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib as the final Guru. Sikhs follow the 5 K's which are symbols beginning with K that represent core beliefs like uncut hair (Kesh) and carrying a sword (Kirpan). Places of worship are called Gurdwaras where services include reading from the Guru Granth Sahib and sharing a community meal (langar).
