2. A short film is any movement picture not long sufficient to
be considered a feature film and have a running time of
about 40 minutes or less . Like
all modern craftsmanship forms, films had
to discover their put. The
primary films were essentially one-shot
‘action’ arrangements. Since no editing process of any
sort had yet been designed, the first years of film
comprised of brief motion pictures of things like
a train pulling into a station or people dancing. Short
films are regularly screened at local, national,
or universal film celebrations and made
by free producers with either a low budget or no budget
at all. They are more often than not supported by
film awards, nonprofit organizations, support,
or individual stores. Short films are generally used for
industry involvement and as a stage to grandstand talent.
Introduction
3. THE BIRTH OF CINEMA
Thomas Edison was the one who first introduced the new medium
of moving pictures to American audiences. Back within the late
1800’s, he started working on a machine that
would show moving photographs for the very first time. His
machine, called the Kinetoscope, was prepared in 1894.
His innovation was a distant cry from the huge screen motion
picture theaters we have come to relate with films today. The
Kinetoscope could only entertain one viewer at a time. They
would need to gaze into the machine through what looked like a
set of mini binoculars. Inside, they would see a brief moving
picture of a staged event, like two individuals wrestling,
for illustration. It would be no more than some seconds long and
would not have any sound backup. In the interim, in Europe, two
brothers were working on another cinematic arrange. Their
approach was to utilize a projector to show film sequences on a
screen so that lots of individuals may observe it at once. The
Lumiere Brothers are commonly considered to have been the
first to have shown the real control of cinema on audiences.
4. Like all modern craftsmanship shapes, movies had
to discover their put. The first films were essentially one-
shot ‘action’ sequences. Since no process of editing had
yet been invented, the first years of film comprised
of brief motion pictures of things like a train pulling into a
station or individuals dancing. Within some years, in any
case, producers realized that
they might include different cuts and tell stories
much within the same way that the theater did. This
caused an blast within the diverse sorts of movies
being made.
5. HISTORY
One of the greatest jumps forward that occurred in films happened within the early
1910’s. Within the ten years before, the average film length had risen from a couple
of minutes to around 20. The 1910’s would see the discharge of DW Griffith’s The
Birth of a Country (1915), a film that had a running time of over 3 hours.
The victory of this film was a real game changer. By the 1920s, brief comedies
were particularly well known, and ordinarily came in a serial or series (such as the
Our Group movies, or the numerous excursions of Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp
character). Animated cartoons came mainly as brief subjects. Essentially all major
film production companies had units relegated to create and deliver short
films. During the 1910’s and 1920’s, Charlie Chaplin was claimed to be the
foremost popular man alive. His comedy brief movies like Laughing Gas (1914) and
The Champion (1915) made him the first real worldwide star. During the 1920s and
early 1930’s,short films started to decline, as in the 1930s, the distribution system
changed in numerous nations, owing to the Great Depression.
6. Despite this, there were still lots of short films being made. One genre that
flourished, and continues to florist up until this very day is the cartoon(animation).
Disney films, in particular, would help keep mainstream short films alive. During
WW2, short films underwent something of a revival due to their use of a
propaganda tool. Famous A-list Hollywood directors like Frank Capra were
drafted in to create such films for the war department. Another area where short
films would thrive was experimental film. Due to the restricted appeal of
such films, it was often hard to find the money to form long exploratory movies.
Cartoon short films did have a longer life, due to the implementation of lower-
cost restricted animation procedures. Though well known, they too declined in
this period. Warner Bros. closed down its studio permanently in 1969. The Pink
Panther was the last regular theatrical cartoon short series, having begun in
1964,and ended in 1980. By the 1960s, the market for animated short films
largely moved to television.
7. THE REBIRTH OF SHORT FILMS
A few animated short films continued within mainstream commercial
distribution. For e.g., DreamWorks Animation frequently produces a
brief sequel to incorporate within the special edition video releases of
major features, and are normally of a sufficient length to be
broadcasted as a TV special. However, short films normally rely
on festival exhibition to reach an audience. Such films can also be
distributed through the Internet. Sites like FILMSshort, Short of the
Week, Short Central and some apps showcase curated short films.
With time, international festivals and award ceremonies began to
involve awards for short films. At the same time, cheap cameras came
on the market meaning that anyone could produce short film. By 2010,
filmmakers had even begun using smartphones to make short films as
well. Today, 10’s of millions of short films are produced each year.
8. Anything related to films/videos can be accessed almost
instantly on demand through YouTube, whether it be on an
android phone, tablet, iphone or a smart TV. Youtube launched
an online short film festival in order to acknowledge new fresh
talent. The process included having 10 winners who were sent to
the Venice film festival, with the winners receiving a grand prize
of 500 dollars. The reason why Youtube decided to launch such
a festival basically revolved around the attempt to ‘rebrand’
themselves and to maintain their status as the number 1
destination for videos on demand.
