2. PURPOSE
Educational:
One of the purposes of short films revolves around the
purpose of education. These films are sent to schools for
teachers to utilize as an asset to educate their understudies.
Many of the films we see show various contemporary themes
and issues that can be talked about by students.
Promotional:
Short films become business cards for new student film
makers, as they are inexpensive, easy and fast to produce(in
comparison to features), and are also easier to get into film
festivals. There are multiple sites that purchase short films
permitting the producers to make some money. Due to this,
several directors work on making short films.
3. Experimental:
Short films allow directors to experiment with technicalities of all sorts
(narrative, sounds, cinematography, editing techniques) which they
wouldn't be able to afford to do in a full feature film, depending on the
commitment levels.
Short films in comparison with Feature films:
The primary purpose of feature films is to generate as much incomes as
possible by gathering a wide audience. Some film makers invest quite a
lot into producing a feature film to gain profits so as to make up for the
money invested into producing the film. The secondary reason of
feature films is to entertain the audience as much as possible, so as to
keep the audience coming back over and over again to make up for the
money invested in producing the film.
However, when it comes to short films, the main difference lies around
the budget, as short films are unable to gather a large audience in
order to make huge sums of money .Due to low attraction, the short
films mostly get aired at film festivals, sometimes, quite rarely though,
on the television, and mostly are uploaded on social media, especially
platforms like Youtube. Despite this, short films can be used for
promotional reasons, to promote feature films that are coming in the
near future.
4. OTHERS
Short films always have some kind of moral or message attached
to them which not only build interest among the audience but
also make them want to see more of the film.
Students and young film makers usually go for producing short
films as compared to feature films, as they do not have enough
budget to produce a big feature film, so they go for producing a
short film. Short films also help such film makers showcase
different issues happening in societies and raise awareness
among the audience over various matters on a comparatively
low budget e.g. matters such as domestic violence, mental
health, discrimination etc.
