2. What did I learn?
I learned about…
• Advertisements
• Billboard designs
• Communication Styles
3. Advertisements
Who uses it?
People use it when people want to persuade someone to buy a
“special” type of good.
What is it?
It is a paid announcement to promote goods.
Why do we have it?
It’s supposed to promote goods for the companies to help give them
profit from the goods.
4. Billboard Designs
What is it?
It’s a type of advertisement. The other type is Glittering Generalities
and Model Communications.
What’s so special about it?
It’s uses a technique called bandwagon. Bandwagon means that if
someone is doing something then they should too. eg. If Sasha has
silly bands, then I should too.
How is it presented?
It’s not a video like Glittering Generalities or a model like Model
Communication. It’s a one-page advertisement.
5. Communication Styles
What is it?
Exchanging thoughts and opinions by speaking, writing, or signs.
What types of styles are there?
There is assertive (reaching a mutual agreement), aggressive
(manipulation for a goal), passive (avoiding confrontation), and
passive-aggressive (avoids conflict but manipulates).
What is special about each one?
• Assertive - gives you the healthiest way of communicating
• Aggressive – uses guilt
• Passive – does not react or stand up to the confrontation
• Passive-Aggressive – most commonly seen style
6. Why did I learn?
I learned…
•because of success
•to gain more
knowledge
•to have a better
understanding of the
world
7. To gain Success
When?
• In college
• In high school
• In fundraisers
• In our jobs
Why?
We use what we learn to do better in life, to make a living, to earn
money to feed for ourselves because we can not rely on our parents
or friends forever. Having better communication will make us seem
more educated and people would accept us more.
8. To gain more knowledge
What?
You gain more knowledge everyday. You learn in in school, at home
and at work. What I learned gave me more knowledge.
How?
A teacher can tell you, you can read, take notes, and pay attention
in class to gain more knowledge.
Why?
We try to gain more knowledge because at some point in life we are
going to use the knowledge to benefit us.
9. To have a better
understanding of the world
How?
By communicating we are exploring and learning something new.
When you speak to a foreigner you can learn about them by their
accents.
Why?
If you have a job that works internationally you would want to
communicate with them well so that you gain their liking and trust
to work with you. They also become your ally.
10. What can I do with what I
learned?
I can apply it…
• To myself
• To the society
• To class
11. Applying it for Myself
When?
I can use what I learned when I have a job or when I am presenting
a project.
Why?
I can use it when I am trying to persuade someone to buy goods
and use my communication to do that.
How?
Everyone uses communication in some form. It’s impossible to not
communicate. Even if you sit and do nothing, you still communicate
with your body language and eyes.
12. Applying it for Society
Where?
We can you what we learned at home, with friends, at work, and at
school.
Why?
We apply it to the society because we want to connect to the
listener so that they can have interest in what we are saying.
How?
Using communication skills and persuasion the audience will listen
to us.
When?
You use it when you are doing an interview for a job. You want to
persuade the person that you can and will do a suitable job and to
so that you use communication skills.
13. Applying it for Class
When?
We apply it in class every day.
Why?
We always apply what we learned in class in some way. We apply in
class to make sure we understand what we have learned.
How?
We apply it in class by doing work and using what we learned. We
have homework based on what we learned and we have tests on
what we learned.
