This document provides instructions for locating an abstract in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) in 16 steps. It describes how to search the DOAJ website by selecting options like journals vs articles, subject area, and language. It explains how to select a journal from the search results, find the table of contents to choose an article, and access the abstract. The final instructions emphasize choosing a single-section research article abstract and sending the link to the instructor for approval by the deadline.
4. On the left-hand side of the screen,
you should see a set of search
parameters
You will need to set only
three of them:
Journals vs. Articles
Subject
Journal Language
3
6. Choose a Subject from the ten (10)
main subjects. I chose Technology
5
7. Subjects are divided into subtopics.
You may select the one you prefer.
6
I selected Mechanical
engineering and machinery
You can view your choices
and reset your search.
8. Now, it is time to pick the language
in which the journal is published
7
Click on English to make
sure the journal you
choose is in English.
9. Read the names of the journals (listed
on the right side) and select one you
find interesting
8
If you click on the name of the
journal, you will remain in the
DOAJ webpage and you will be
shown a brief description of the
journal.
10. 9
If you click on the
URL of the journal,
you will leave the
DOAJ webpage
and you will be
shown the home
page of the
scientific journal
you chose.
11. Home page of Advances in
Mechanical Engineering

12. The next step is to look for the issues of
the journal and to locate the table of
contents so that you can choose an
article by its title.
Depending on the journal, you will
have different formats and information.
11
13. Look for words or expressions like:
Issues
Current Issue
Table of Contents
View articles
Volume 1, 2, 3, etc.
…until you find the table of contents.
12
14. If you can’t find any of those expressions, ask for 13
15. In the case of Advances in
Mechanical Engineering, I had to
scroll down to find the list of volumes
and numbers
14
16. From the table of
contents (Volume 2,
Number 4), I selected
an article by clicking
on the PDF icon next
to the title.
You may try clicking on
the title or on words like
abstract, full text, full
paper, etc.
15
18. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you:
Make sure the abstract is NOT divided into sections. That is, it should
NOT have subtitles like: objectives, method, results, etc.
Choose a Research Article, NOT a Review article.
Send me (yriscasart@gmail.com) the link to the abstract (OR the PDF
file) so that I can check the abstract and approve it.
Remember the Deadline: Wednesday, Oct. 15th, 2014 at 11:59 p.m.
Keep in mind that 2 points will be taken off of your grade on the
Abstract Assignment if the abstract you send by then is not approved.
