AN OPINION ESSAY: The teenage years are the most important
years of your life.
Most people think that the teenage years are the most important stage of our life,
because is in these years when we decide how we want being. In general, all but any
people think that it is true, other persons are in disagreement, they think that the
teenage stage are years of emotional instability.
As I see it, these years are the best years of our life, why? Is easy, because when we
are young we haven’t got so many responsibilities like when we are adult, but we have
more responsibilities that when we are children and we can do ‘everything that we
want’. In addition, we don’t need to worry about the bills or job, only we need worry
about our studies and feel good with ourselves.
In conclusion, these years are the best and all the teenagers should live without
worries, studying to have a good future and be happy, that to worry exists many years
later.
The teenage yearsare usuallythe mostmemorable yearsof one'slife.Thisisduringthistime thatwe
findouridentity,experimentwithnewthingsandmaybe evenexperienceourfirstlove or
relationship.Itisduringthistime thatwe experience majorexaminationslikethe Cambridge
Ordinarylevelsorthe Advancedlevels.It isinschool thatwe make friendsandspendmanydaysoff
studyingwithbestfriendsatthe libraryor watchingmovies.
The teenage yearsare alsothe time whenpeopledodaringthings.Manyteenagershave triedbungy
jumping,kayaking,rollercoasterridesandotherdaring“adventures”.These activitiesnotonlybring
joyand funto teenagers,theyalsodevelopthe mental attributesof these teenagers.
I believethatthe teenage yearsisaperiodof trials.The trialsare notonlyinthe formof
examinationsbutalsointhe formof physical trialsandmental trials.Itisduringourteenage years
where we realise ouridentity.We wouldhave alsorealisedoursexuality,ourambitionandour
interests.Manypeople realisethe careertheywishtopursue while theyare about16, 17 yearsold.
However,there are alsobadthingsthat make our teenage yearslessenjoyable.
It isalso duringourteenage yearsthatwe follow trendsfervently.There hasbeenharmlesstrends
like wearingankle lengthsocksbutthere hasalsobeentrendsthatare harmful like being“emo”.
Being“emo”isto be expressive of one'sfeelingslike angry,depression,lonelinessthroughwriting
poemsonone'ssuicide attemptsorcutting'sone'swirstto expressemotionswithinoneself.I
believethatfollowingharmlesstrendsisfine butfollowingtrendsthatcausesusto harm ourselvesis
completelyridiculousandfoolishthingtodo.People followtrendstolook“hip”whichmeans
modernbutis hurtingourselvesanworthwhile sarcifice inordertolook“hip”?

I certainlydonotthinkso and itis trendslike these thatcausesdarkpatchesinour otherwise
colourful teenage years.Stresscanalsoleadtous havinga lessthanenjoyable growingupperiod.
These days,we hearnewsof studentscryingat the A levelsfor“only”getting3Asand studentsin
variouscountrieskillingthemselvesastheyare unable tocope withthe overwhelmingstress.Where
doesthisstresscome from?It actuallycomesfrommanysources,namelythe parents,societyand
the school.Parentsandschoolsencourage studentstogetgoodgradesin studies.However,this
encouragementcomesinthe formof extrapracticesor constantmonitoringof students.This
actuallygive additionalandunnecessarypressure tothe studentsresultinginmanyof themhaving
unhappyteenage years.
Despite all this,the teenageyearsinmyopinionisbe one of the mostenjoyable periodsof one'slife.
Problemscanbe solvedthrougheffectivetime management,self motivationandthe abilityto
balance bothworkand play,ensuringthatone can still have funandenjoythese teenageyearswhile
understress.These are actuallyskillsandabilitythatmostteenagershave learnedthesedaysas
theydevelopwaysandmethodstocope withthe stressassociatedwithgrowingup.Therefore,i
agree withthe viewthatthe teenage yearsare the bestyearsof one'slife.
