1. Q2: HOW DOES YOUR TITLE AND OPENING SEQUENCE
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
In my title and opening sequence I have used the following social groups:
Teenagers (13-17, Male)
Professional Young Adult (18-15, Male)
2. Teenagers (13-17, Male)
In order to show the social group of a teenager I used costumes in the area of clothing
as the main character Nathen is wearing a hoodie, jeans and running shows which a
large population of modern day teenagers tend to wear, this allows teenagers within
the target audience to relate to the character, In the terms of lighting I have expressed
Nathen to be quite a happy an easy going person as the lighting is quite bright during
my title and opening sequence, until it gets to the end where Nathen starts to take the
situation seriously which is where the lighting of the scene around him begins to
darken just before the titles come up. I have portrayed teenagers as well by Nathen’s
use of speech as he talks with one a bit of an attitude as he does not like the Agent
and does not agree with what they do, this is relatable to my target audience as a
whole teenagers do not tend to agree with decision made by their elders. In the terms
of angles I have shown the teenager as equal to the Agents as even though adults
should be shown as more respected and powerful, but as they want Nathans help, I
have shown them to all have equal respect and power, until the end when they are
shown from a high angle and from Nathen point of view, which is the point of my title
and opening sequence where Nathen has the most power. When it comes to body
language Nathen appears to walk quite straight and when he is talking he is also stood
straight therefore this may not be a true representation of how the vast majority of
teenagers actually behave. When it comes to eye contact between Nathen and one of
the agents he looks at them directly in the eyes as Nathen is in charge of the situation
with his power, as they need his help, so Nathen looks intimidating when he asks them
what they want. Teenagers in general do not look people in the eyes as they are either
not confident enough or they are not normally in a position of power, therefore I have
not truly represented modern day teenagers in this area of my title and opening
sequence.
3. Professional Young Adult (18-15, Male)
In order to successfully represent the social group of professional young adults, I had
my two agents wear black suits, this is because when you think about being
professional you think of a suit, and therefore I had to have my agents wear suits to
both satisfy the needs of the persona and to show that they are professional. In terms
of lighting you can tell that the agents see the situation much differently than Nathen
does, therefore the lighting when the agents are running is shown to be darker as the
lighting presents it in a darker fashion, in order to emphasise the situation, they go to
Nathen for help they need, whereas until the end Nathen does not really care as it
does not affect him. When it comes to use of language and dialogue they are quite
formal as when they talk, that talk with proper English, but they come to talk to
Nathan they talk with compassion as they need his help. As I previously stated when it
comes to angles they are presented as equal to Nathen as they all have power, until
the point where they are all talking, in which point they are shown to have left power
as they are being shown from a high angle, this does not really represent young adults
as teenagers are normally not seen as equal to them as they do not have as much life
experience. The agents themselves have a confident posture when walking and talking
throughout my opening title sequence this truly represents professional young adults
as people also think about confidence when they hear the word professional therefore
standing up straight fits the purpose for being professional. The agents look into
Nathen’s and each other’s eyes as they are confident as they are adults, whereas this
normally shows power when it comes to these it does not as Nathen has more power
over them in the situation. The car seen in my title and opening sequence also
represents the protagonists as being professional adults as the car itself also looks
professional.
