Radio Pitch
By Michael Holland
Ideas
 At the begging I was given the task to find and examine two different types of
radio station. The radio stations I looked into where:
 BBC 1
 Capital FM
Both of these radios stations pay throughout the day but in different ways and each
for there own reasons. For example Capital is a profitable company and the BBC is
not therefore Capital needs to make money for the continuation of the show. On the
other hand the BBC is already paid for by the mandatory Television license.
The Radio show: Breakfast with Mike!
 The radio show I selected to do was the mainstream show. This is because I felt it as
my strongest in the development stages and I feel that it would make money if it was
placed in the segment am targeting.
 Following this the style of this show is appealing to an audience I understand and
would know how to appeal to. Also the musical genres that will be played on this
show are very much to the taste of todays youth and is almost guaranteed to get
listeners and in turn revenue for the capital radio station.
 Finally I chose this title because it is friendly and makes Mike and obviation of Michael
more of an house hold name and takes out any formality that is usually associated
with the radio. This in turn make the radio show a piece of the morning routine and
would build brand recognition plus it is easy to remember.
Scheduling
As I plan on creating is an breakfast show the begging of the show would begin ant
6AM and end around 9AM. This standard industry times for shows of this caliber and
begins when most people are waking up and ends when the majority of people have
got to work or school.
The main reason for this type of schedule is it is the prime time of people going
to work or waking up. This means they are more likely to turn the radio on to fill
the dead silence with the kitchen or the car. as I have explained in my treatment and
audience it is all because of the times that people are awake and are more likely to
tune in rather than a niche show that depends on an particular audience.
The station the show will be played on is capital frequency 102.2.
Target audience
As I have already been through in detail in my audience analysis I'm not going to go
as deep into with in this heading.
My target audience is aged 15-25 and male.
They are part of the socio-economical grouping of D/E
And they secondary audience is the same but is Female.
This means that my show is targeted at young adults and teens this is because the
music that is played is also created for this demographic. And is the most listened to
on the internet where figures ca be shown accurately via views and previous radio
statistics.
Plans for post-broadcast distribution
Because the radio has developed over the last century to become more online
based.the post distribution has depleted dramatically. However this because another
avenue for storing radio shows and this is primarily where my radio show would be
marketed after a live showing. Un like other BBC shows the use for magazines and
CD's is not need and online showing can create more revenue due to the advertising
that can be put on to each video. This is like how YouTube uses its content to make
money and then later cut content creators in after a profit margin has been met.
Planning material: Breakfast show with
Mike
Show one: Mainstream show (Breakfast show with Mike)
Name : (Breakfast show with Mike)
The name of this show is just the presenter's name and what t time of day the show is being presented. The show will be from 6AM-8AM covering a two-hour gap live on capital
FM's radio network.
 The atmosphere of this radio show is enjoyable and fun. It is very positive and allows the listeners to have a positive start to the day. The radio show should be light and
entertaining for the morning . Afternoon traveling and shouldn't have and dead air. This radio plays the latest and most popular songs of the week.
Show summary :
The show will contain a vast variety of different element that will entertain the audience for the allowed time. The show will be light and entertaining with multiple different elements
that will interest the audience. Things such as news music and topics and discussions that may interest
Radio station schedule:
The radio schedule with capital in the morning is split into segments each covering two hours. This show will cover several different things in the morning such as the news and
another general topic that cover musical interests that may interest listeners. The show will have several advertisement in-between different segments of the show to keep to the
generic station script and allow for revenue to be made.
Audience:
As I have said before the target audience of capital is 15-25-year-olds this because of the type of music that is played being mainstream and appealing made for this age range. This
is also because of prime times and paying to be towards the later end of the morning when most people are going to school or work. I would say that prime audience being male
and-and the secondary audience female. This because males stereotypically would use the radio more often than women. The socio-economical group I would say is the same as
BBC radio one. E/D this is because of the age range and still being in full or part-time education or at a university. This means that the listeners would also use the service while
doing work or other activities making the station more popular during the day also.
Planning material: DJ Spiteful's House
 summary
 The show will be a Niche show and will cater for a select amount of people that are into a specific amount of people. The show will consist of multiple different elements mainly being talking and social media shout outs also some interesting topics that may have arisen in the news.
 The radio station that I plan to use for the broadcasting of the show is radio one. this is because radio one has multiple niche shows and would allow for a show like this to be played on air because it has had similar shows played at late night before. Following this the show will be played around 12:00 AM every Tuesday.
 Audience
 The audience that I will be targeting my show are are students aged at 17+ this is because of the times and content of the show. I would also say the main audience would be male because of the content and atmosphere of the show. I also say this because this show has a very particular playlist that is also targeted at young adult
males and teenagers.
 [slideshare id=68583051&doc=spiderdi-161110132917]
 Feedback
 The breakfast show idea sounds good and follows the typical features of a breakfast show. It does, however, run shorter than most breakfast shows.
 I feel the content would be successful in terms of the audience as typically this type of feel would appeal to this age range.
 I think mentioning that the show is family friendly is a good idea but the show may need something else to differentiate it from other radio shows.

 The name of your niche show identifies the vibe of the show which would likely to attract an audience. The show has specialist/niche themes which would also attract an audience.
 The schedule and audience have been clearly thought about.

 You could also make the shows available to listen to on different formats for the different audiences.

 On your mainstream and your niche show you could have added some news and have an internet search on the hottest stars which play the best songs so you could have a gossip time on the stars and any other information you can get on the stars which songs you will be playing. Definitely, Have it for your mainstream show
because of the target audience of a young adults age they will love the gossip talk a lot more than the older generation will.
Written sample materials: Part 1
 Show one (Breakfast with Mike)
 The show is a mainstream prime-time show playing the latest and most popular music. The show ill is targeted at students and young people. The show will be played on the capital FM radio station (102.2 FM). This will be an early morning show and will start at 6 AM. I chose this time because
it will run into the prime time and will get the most people listening at one time. The BBC have a similar breakfast show, therefore, they will naturally be competitors of the show however because capital is well known in the west midlands it should have the edge over the BBC network. The
reason for competition between both of these stations is because they are played at the same time of day and are very similar shows. This means that the fight for listeners is a priority more so for capital rather than the BBC because capital is not nationally funded by the public it is a business
that makes revenue from advertisements and promotional deals. The main music within the show will be pop and soul music this is because this is popular in the charts at the moment. This is the main reason for playlists in capital, this is because if it is popular then this means that t eh
majority of listeners will want to listen to I because it is in the charts. The outlined plan for this show is a mixture of music and taking that should keep the audience entertained and tuned into the station. The show will contain a maximum of 1 minute 30 seconds of music and the rest will be
divided into news and talking topics such as what is going on in the music industry and what is up and coming and movies and reviews. The use of social media will also be used on the show with call-ins and comparisons that listeners can call in and enter. With live tweets and snap chats of
the studio and who is working on the day. Following this us of webcams is a possibility this is because of the modern sue of the internet and how people are more likely to listen to something if it can be watched as well. This may be more interesting that just listening because it there may be
celebrities that are on the show and looking at how they dress and act may be more interesting than just listening. viewers may watch the radio show because of the modern world being more online and not having a physical radio. the radio will be online and still able to watch what is going
on and have a visual representation of different things. when talking about the sound it sets the tone of the station and the use of background music and fillers allows the tone to be set. In my show, I plan to have background music behind all speech. There will be 3 people on the show all
providing different personalities and tones to the show. the use of jingles and sound effects will be used in transitions from music and when keywords are said. The sound effects will be done via downloads off of the internet.
 target audience
 The target audience of the show will be the same as highlighted in previous audience analyses. Male's aged form 15-25 with a socio-economic class of E/D. all of the plans that I have stated above are targeted at this audience and designed around the need of this audience.

Written sample materials: Part 2
 Show two (DJ Spiteful's House )
 The name of this show is a play on words and a fun in some scenes. This is because DJ spiteful is the name of the DJ but the house can have two meanings physical or the genre of music.
 This show is a Niche show that plays house, dance and techno music that will be played from late night till early morning. this show is targeted at older students and party goers. The radio station I plan to do this show for is BBC radio 1, I chose this station because they hold similar
shows and I think that my show would fit in. The frequency for the show is (97.6 FM BBC 1 radio frequency). Following this the show will be played around 12:00 AM every Tuesday. This is because of the content of the show and the audience that I have targeted the music and
topics at. This show is Niche however this does not mean that that does not have competitors. one of the competitors of the show may be the late show with Marvin Humes. This would be one of the main competitors because of the time that the show is played and what day of the
week. This means that both shows will be competing for listeners at the same times however they both offer different types of show. on the other hand, both shows have similar target audiences and this makes for competition as well. The main type of show that is played on my
show is house and dance music. The music that is played on the show is similar to music that is played in clubs and bars around the same time and can be used by students for late night studying purposes. I have selected this genre of music because it is similar to the show I have
researched previously and I find that it may have a place in the market. other competitors may be Youtube or Spotify, this is because both of these on-demand services offer vast ranges of music and to the same target audience as my radio show. The ratio of music to other features
in the show will be approximately 30% music and the rest talking and treatment features. This means that the audience will have the both a mixture of music and topics with the DJ as the host of the show with a range of jingles. The show will also have a segment where viewers /
listeners can tweet at the show and get a shout out live on the show. This will allow viewers to feel more interactive with the show and gain the listeners loyalty, therefore, they may listen more frequently allowing the show to continue playing. The sound design of the show will be
much more unique than the mainstream show and have funny and entertaining noises that will be played throughout the show to make sure listeners don't get bored and decide to change a station. Going more in depth with the sounds that will be in the show one of the first
jingles will be used to introduce the DJ (Spiteful) when used this jingle will allow the listener to know when the song is nearly over and the DJ is going to be talking soon.
 Audience
 An audience that I will be targeting for my show are are students aged at 17+ this is because of the times and content of the show. This audience will have the socio-economical grouping of E/D. this means that the audience will have no revenue and will rely on parents or their
low-level skilled jobs. I think this is the most likely audience of the show because of the other shows that are played at the same time have very similar audiences.
 The secondary audience of this show would be older adults aged 25+. I have identified this audience because of the late night shift worker having the socio-economical grouping of C1. This group of people will have more of a revenue than the primary audience however this
audience will be listening after the late shift at work and just before bed.

Music radio pitch

  • 2. Ideas  At the begging I was given the task to find and examine two different types of radio station. The radio stations I looked into where:  BBC 1  Capital FM Both of these radios stations pay throughout the day but in different ways and each for there own reasons. For example Capital is a profitable company and the BBC is not therefore Capital needs to make money for the continuation of the show. On the other hand the BBC is already paid for by the mandatory Television license.
  • 3. The Radio show: Breakfast with Mike!  The radio show I selected to do was the mainstream show. This is because I felt it as my strongest in the development stages and I feel that it would make money if it was placed in the segment am targeting.  Following this the style of this show is appealing to an audience I understand and would know how to appeal to. Also the musical genres that will be played on this show are very much to the taste of todays youth and is almost guaranteed to get listeners and in turn revenue for the capital radio station.  Finally I chose this title because it is friendly and makes Mike and obviation of Michael more of an house hold name and takes out any formality that is usually associated with the radio. This in turn make the radio show a piece of the morning routine and would build brand recognition plus it is easy to remember.
  • 4. Scheduling As I plan on creating is an breakfast show the begging of the show would begin ant 6AM and end around 9AM. This standard industry times for shows of this caliber and begins when most people are waking up and ends when the majority of people have got to work or school. The main reason for this type of schedule is it is the prime time of people going to work or waking up. This means they are more likely to turn the radio on to fill the dead silence with the kitchen or the car. as I have explained in my treatment and audience it is all because of the times that people are awake and are more likely to tune in rather than a niche show that depends on an particular audience. The station the show will be played on is capital frequency 102.2.
  • 5. Target audience As I have already been through in detail in my audience analysis I'm not going to go as deep into with in this heading. My target audience is aged 15-25 and male. They are part of the socio-economical grouping of D/E And they secondary audience is the same but is Female. This means that my show is targeted at young adults and teens this is because the music that is played is also created for this demographic. And is the most listened to on the internet where figures ca be shown accurately via views and previous radio statistics.
  • 6. Plans for post-broadcast distribution Because the radio has developed over the last century to become more online based.the post distribution has depleted dramatically. However this because another avenue for storing radio shows and this is primarily where my radio show would be marketed after a live showing. Un like other BBC shows the use for magazines and CD's is not need and online showing can create more revenue due to the advertising that can be put on to each video. This is like how YouTube uses its content to make money and then later cut content creators in after a profit margin has been met.
  • 7. Planning material: Breakfast show with Mike Show one: Mainstream show (Breakfast show with Mike) Name : (Breakfast show with Mike) The name of this show is just the presenter's name and what t time of day the show is being presented. The show will be from 6AM-8AM covering a two-hour gap live on capital FM's radio network.  The atmosphere of this radio show is enjoyable and fun. It is very positive and allows the listeners to have a positive start to the day. The radio show should be light and entertaining for the morning . Afternoon traveling and shouldn't have and dead air. This radio plays the latest and most popular songs of the week. Show summary : The show will contain a vast variety of different element that will entertain the audience for the allowed time. The show will be light and entertaining with multiple different elements that will interest the audience. Things such as news music and topics and discussions that may interest Radio station schedule: The radio schedule with capital in the morning is split into segments each covering two hours. This show will cover several different things in the morning such as the news and another general topic that cover musical interests that may interest listeners. The show will have several advertisement in-between different segments of the show to keep to the generic station script and allow for revenue to be made. Audience: As I have said before the target audience of capital is 15-25-year-olds this because of the type of music that is played being mainstream and appealing made for this age range. This is also because of prime times and paying to be towards the later end of the morning when most people are going to school or work. I would say that prime audience being male and-and the secondary audience female. This because males stereotypically would use the radio more often than women. The socio-economical group I would say is the same as BBC radio one. E/D this is because of the age range and still being in full or part-time education or at a university. This means that the listeners would also use the service while doing work or other activities making the station more popular during the day also.
  • 8. Planning material: DJ Spiteful's House  summary  The show will be a Niche show and will cater for a select amount of people that are into a specific amount of people.  Audience  The audience that I will be targeting my show are are students aged at 17+ this is because of the times and content of the show. I would also say the main audience would be male because of the content and atmosphere of the show. I also say this because this show has a very particular playlist that is also targeted at young adult males and teenagers.  [slideshare id=68583051&doc=spiderdi-161110132917]  Feedback  The breakfast show idea sounds good and follows the typical features of a breakfast show. It does, however, run shorter than most breakfast shows.  I feel the content would be successful in terms of the audience as typically this type of feel would appeal to this age range.  I think mentioning that the show is family friendly is a good idea but the show may need something else to differentiate it from other radio shows.   The name of your niche show identifies the vibe of the show which would likely to attract an audience. The show has specialist/niche themes which would also attract an audience.  The schedule and audience have been clearly thought about.   You could also make the shows available to listen to on different formats for the different audiences.   On your mainstream and your niche show you could have added some news and have an internet search on the hottest stars which play the best songs so you could have a gossip time on the stars and any other information you can get on the stars which songs you will be playing. Definitely, Have it for your mainstream show because of the target audience of a young adults age they will love the gossip talk a lot more than the older generation will.
  • 9. Written sample materials: Part 1  Show one (Breakfast with Mike)  The show is a mainstream prime-time show playing the latest and most popular music. The show ill is targeted at students and young people. The show will be played on the capital FM radio station (102.2 FM). This will be an early morning show and will start at 6 AM. I chose this time because it will run into the prime time and will get the most people listening at one time. The BBC have a similar breakfast show, therefore, they will naturally be competitors of the show however because capital is well known in the west midlands it should have the edge over the BBC network. The reason for competition between both of these stations is because they are played at the same time of day and are very similar shows. This means that the fight for listeners is a priority more so for capital rather than the BBC because capital is not nationally funded by the public it is a business that makes revenue from advertisements and promotional deals. The main music within the show will be pop and soul music this is because this is popular in the charts at the moment. This is the main reason for playlists in capital, this is because if it is popular then this means that t eh majority of listeners will want to listen to I because it is in the charts. The outlined plan for this show is a mixture of music and taking that should keep the audience entertained and tuned into the station. The show will contain a maximum of 1 minute 30 seconds of music and the rest will be divided into news and talking topics such as what is going on in the music industry and what is up and coming and movies and reviews. The use of social media will also be used on the show with call-ins and comparisons that listeners can call in and enter. With live tweets and snap chats of the studio and who is working on the day. Following this us of webcams is a possibility this is because of the modern sue of the internet and how people are more likely to listen to something if it can be watched as well. This may be more interesting that just listening because it there may be celebrities that are on the show and looking at how they dress and act may be more interesting than just listening. viewers may watch the radio show because of the modern world being more online and not having a physical radio. the radio will be online and still able to watch what is going on and have a visual representation of different things. when talking about the sound it sets the tone of the station and the use of background music and fillers allows the tone to be set. In my show, I plan to have background music behind all speech. There will be 3 people on the show all providing different personalities and tones to the show. the use of jingles and sound effects will be used in transitions from music and when keywords are said. The sound effects will be done via downloads off of the internet.  target audience  The target audience of the show will be the same as highlighted in previous audience analyses. Male's aged form 15-25 with a socio-economic class of E/D. all of the plans that I have stated above are targeted at this audience and designed around the need of this audience.  sample material  running list  start:  10 seconds of music  5 seconds talking  5-second jingle  20 seconds of advertisements  total 55 seconds:  Music:  Say You Won't Let Go  Closer (feat. Halsey)  Starboy (feat. Daft Punk)   jingle  Radio station  Dj into  News intro
  • 10. Written sample materials: Part 2  Show two (DJ Spiteful's House )  The name of this show is a play on words and a fun in some scenes. This is because DJ spiteful is the name of the DJ but the house can have two meanings physical or the genre of music.  This show is a Niche show that plays house, dance and techno music that will be played from late night till early morning. this show is targeted at older students and party goers. The radio station I plan to do this show for is BBC radio 1, I chose this station because they hold similar shows and I think that my show would fit in. The frequency for the show is (97.6 FM BBC 1 radio frequency). Following this the show will be played around 12:00 AM every Tuesday. This is because of the content of the show and the audience that I have targeted the music and topics at. This show is Niche however this does not mean that that does not have competitors. one of the competitors of the show may be the late show with Marvin Humes. This would be one of the main competitors because of the time that the show is played and what day of the week. This means that both shows will be competing for listeners at the same times however they both offer different types of show. on the other hand, both shows have similar target audiences and this makes for competition as well. The main type of show that is played on my show is house and dance music. The music that is played on the show is similar to music that is played in clubs and bars around the same time and can be used by students for late night studying purposes. I have selected this genre of music because it is similar to the show I have researched previously and I find that it may have a place in the market. other competitors may be Youtube or Spotify, this is because both of these on-demand services offer vast ranges of music and to the same target audience as my radio show. The ratio of music to other features in the show will be approximately 30% music and the rest talking and treatment features. This means that the audience will have the both a mixture of music and topics with the DJ as the host of the show with a range of jingles. The show will also have a segment where viewers / listeners can tweet at the show and get a shout out live on the show. This will allow viewers to feel more interactive with the show and gain the listeners loyalty, therefore, they may listen more frequently allowing the show to continue playing. The sound design of the show will be much more unique than the mainstream show and have funny and entertaining noises that will be played throughout the show to make sure listeners don't get bored and decide to change a station. Going more in depth with the sounds that will be in the show one of the first jingles will be used to introduce the DJ (Spiteful) when used this jingle will allow the listener to know when the song is nearly over and the DJ is going to be talking soon.  Audience  An audience that I will be targeting for my show are are students aged at 17+ this is because of the times and content of the show. This audience will have the socio-economical grouping of E/D. this means that the audience will have no revenue and will rely on parents or their low-level skilled jobs. I think this is the most likely audience of the show because of the other shows that are played at the same time have very similar audiences.  The secondary audience of this show would be older adults aged 25+. I have identified this audience because of the late night shift worker having the socio-economical grouping of C1. This group of people will have more of a revenue than the primary audience however this audience will be listening after the late shift at work and just before bed.  sample material  Running list  20 seconds of music  10-second jingle  5 second of talking  10-second jingle  music:  locked in-lee walker  Dua Lipa - Last Dance  jingle:  Dj intro  Radio station  Social media shout out:  Twitter  Facebook  Snapchat
