For my magazine cover, I have targeted an indie rock audience in several ways. I used a unique font for the masthead that indie rock fans would relate to based on their style preferences. I also advertised free music incentives like a Jake Bugg poster and a My Morning Jacket CD to attract fans of those artists. The cover features articles about indie rock music that would interest enthusiasts of the genre. Additionally, the cover model's clothing fits the indie rock aesthetic. The black, red, and white color scheme of the magazine was shown to appeal to indie rock listeners based on previous research. The contrast of the white masthead on a black background helps catch the viewer's eye.
How to attract an indie rock audience in a magazine cover
1. How did I attract/ address my audience?
For my front cover I have attracted my audience I have used a very unique masthead font that is
likely to catch the ‘indie rock’ type of audience, I think this because the people who enjoy indie rock
are very different in the scene of clothing and style, so I believe that they would relate to this. On
the front, I have attracted my audience by advertising incentives such as ‘free Jake Bugg poster’ and
‘My Morning jacket CD inside’. This will attract my audience as it involves the bands/ artist that fit
into the Indie-Rock category. Also my front cover shows articles in the Magazine based on Indie-
rock, for example ‘NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INDIE-ROCK’ and ‘most underrated artists in the Indie-
Rock scene’ are both articles of my magazine, and this is highly likely to attract people who enjoy
indie rock. Also my cover star will attract the audience as his clothing is much like what someone
who likes the Indie- Rock scene would wear. I also know the colour scheme of the magazine, Black,
Red White, will attract people who like indie-rock music because they selected them in the
questionnaires. I also attracted my audience with the colours I used, for example my masthead is
white on top of a black background, these colours contrast and makes the masthead stand out more
to catch the viewer’s eye.
