producers have modified what is once traditional. From storylines to characters, creative individuals
have incorporated pieces of mythical details into popular culture. One of the most common
adaptation are the characters, from the Olympians to magical beasts, Titans to Nymphs. Although
they are the same characters based off of the same myth, none of the deities are depicted in the same
style, different producers have different ways to express each characters. As a fan of modern
adaptations, I wish to perform an analytical comparison between the traditional and modern

magic, which helps the summoner with his needs, for example, the growth of his crops or the
achievement of prosperity. Myths also serve as explanations. Today, although we know why the sun

Hawaiian mythology is both animistic and polytheistic. Animism is the religious belief that objects,
places and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence and polytheism is the belief of multiple
deities in one religion (Hawaiian Folk Tales). Hawaiian religion also believes that passed away souls
exist as non–human beings like animals and abiotic objects (Hawaiian Folk Tales). The mythology
encompasses the vast Polynesia region (See Figure 1 for map), and really centers around nature as
opposed to other cultures; most deities are associated with the surrounding environment such as
Pele–honua–mea (Pele), Goddess of Volcanoes, and creator of the Hawaiian islands (Beckwith).
Another example is would be Nā–maka–o–Kahaʻi (Nāmaka), sister of Pele and the two are often

television. The first example in the Hercules (2014) movie where a part of Greek mythology is seen
is in the beginning when Hercules is shown fighting the Lernaean Hydra as part of his twelve

us tales of gods, heroes, and monsters; in the modern world it is also used to butter up

domination.
However, there is a strong distinction between mass and popular culture that seems to be no longer
defensible to most media scholars and cultural critics, studies of fan creations such as fanfiction
have shown us just how entwined certain popular forms are with mass culture. Describing the texts
of popular culture as myths then becomes a way of claiming profitable culture as common culture
and the basis for a genuine fan culture that exists outside capitalist networks of production,
distribution, and consumption.
Of the 2,173 fics on AO3, around half remain within the Greek mythic–historical story world: such
fics set are set within the Iliad world rather than the Odyssey, as well as fics about the Olympian
gods such as the popular Persephone/Hades, to the obscure, Helenus/Neoptolemus. The most

of the classical gods and heroes according to modern fictional and psychological norms. There are

There are many different types of different creatures of Greek Mythology. There are Centaurs,
Minotaur, Pegasus, Sirens, Medusa, and many more. These creatures can either be helpful to the
Gods and Goddesses or they can work against them. Some of the creatures' stories even intertwine
with the stories of the Gods and Goddesses of Greek mythology. I will concentrate on the following
creatures: Centaurs, Pegasus, Sirens, and Medusa. My favorite creatures out of all of these are the
Sirens, because I think that they were beautiful creatures with an evil side about that. I will explain
what they are, where they came from, and the different myths about them. Centaurs are half–man
and half–horse. There are many different myths as to how the Centaur was born. One myth, the most
popular one that has different stories around it, is that Ixion raped Hera, the wife of Zeus. Zeus did
not believe Hera when she told him this so Zeus made a cloud (Nephele) that looked like Hera to lay
with Ixion to see if it would happen again and this was how the Centaurs were born. Much to
everyone's surprise, there are female centaurs and they are said to be of great beauty. Centaurs can
either be described as wild and bold creatures or as savages. They are said to be the first man race to
inhabit the forest of Thessaly. They are also sometimes called beasts, because of how they looked.

him." This was quoted from Groucho Marx, who is trying to explain how women are the ones that
guide and lead a man's life. This similar philosophy can be found in traditional mythology. Females
served two purposes. Their first purpose, guide the hero through his journey to save the day. Their
second purpose, be disregarded for their efforts in the hero's success. It is evident that we have seen
in countless myths, from a variety of origins and cultures. For example, a popular Greek myth,
"Theseus and the Minotaur" followed this ideology perfectly as the princess, Ariadne helps Theseus
with his quest. She then sleeps with him and is left stranded on an island. It is also seen in the Greek
mythology spin–off, "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief", where Percy Jackson's
mother was used as the tool for both male parties; the gods and Percy Jackson. Another myth is
"Orpheus and Eurydice" where Eurydice is found providing Orpheus with some emotional and
physical aid. Even in the aboriginal culture, the myth "Nanabush creates the World" conveys a very
similar appearance of what women's duties were. Throughout numerous myths, women in
mythology are nothing more than disposable aid yet still are inferior to men, despite their
contributions to the hero's journey thus showing how society undervalued them.
