At Adult Protective Services we use social learning theory when dealing with our clients.
Caseworkers along with clients create services plans. Service plans address the needed and
resources to help clients establish long–term stabilization. Interventions fall into a few large
categories of activity such as providing or arranging services towards a long term care plan to
reduce to reduce risk and increase safety, counseling the individual and family about resource
choices and ways to alleviate specifically identified issues leading to mistreatment, or removing the

What interested you in this career? I wanted to work with families to improve and better their
situations. Child Abuse is a horrible thing with endless survivors. By working in with Child
Protective Services, I hoped to have a positive impact to prevent children from being abused.

Human Services, the Child Abuse and Neglect National Statistics (CANNS)(7), the composition of

Although my first day in the office was uneventful I was looking forward to going back, because I
was excited to see what other types of tasks Ms. Green has to carry out. My first day was my only
day in the office though, after a while Ms. Green stopped responding to my emails.
From my understanding it was not Ms. Green who was avoiding me, it was the agency preventing

My field placement will be at Child protective services in El Paso TX. My Target population for my
field placement will be Children who have been maltreated, neglected and abused. Child abuse
prevention has grown exponentially in El Paso over the past 31 years. In El Paso alone the Texas
Department of Family and Protective Services investigated 4,979 reports of alleged child abuse in
2014 in El Paso County. They confirmed that 1,339 children were indeed victims of abuse; 379
confirmed cases of Physical abuse, 166 confirmed cases of sexual abuse, 56 cases of emotional
abuse and 70 cases of medical neglect (Lee & Beulah Moor,2016) A troubling trend has emerged
regarding the prevention of child maltreatment in the state of Texas. A tragic loophole contributing
to continued abuse and in many cases child fatalities, continues to be exploited to the detriment of
one of our most vulnerable populations. From 2009 to 2014, there were 800 child fatalities reported
as abuse and neglect deaths by Child Protective Services in all of Texas (Ball, 2015). An analysis of
these cases by an independent research group found gross errors by CPS and other agencies during
ongoing abuse cases enabled the abuse or neglect to continue, inevitably leading to death. Although

When an allegation is made, an investigator will reach out to the respondent(s)via phone or visit.
During the investigation the respondent(s) is giving a child protection law handbook that explains
the entire process, parental rights, court process, parent and attorney responsibilities, foster care, and
case timelines. Each investigator handles the process differently based on the allegations. The
parents and families involved are able to express their concerns regarding the case during the Family
Team Meeting(s)(FTM). Family Team Meetings led by a facilitator are formal recordings of
concerns, services, parenting time, and compliance that can happen several times while the case is

to their caseworker, Lawyer Guardian Ad Litem (LGAL), and any service agencies connected with

Engaging in the interview process with C allowed me to experience the role of case workers at Adult
Protective Services. The interview provided some insight into what Elderly population deals with on
an everyday basis. C due to his age and disability is unable to properly care for himself, and requires
the help from close family members. Due to Mr.'s inability to properly clean and manage his

In this research proposal the independent variable is the involvement of Child Protective Services.
Child Protective Service's involvement is measured based on a questionnaire, which ask the
participant have they ever had any previous Child Protective Service involvement, and if so when?
The research will include both participants who have answered yes and no to this question.
Furthermore, if the participant has answered yes, they will only be included if the Child Protective
Service involvement was in the last five years. The dependent variable in the research is the risk
factors of child maltreatment, as measured by the Adult–Adolescent Parenting Inventory. The three
risk factors that will be examined as part of this research are parental empathy towards children's
needs, the use of corporal punishment, and expectations of children. The source of the data was
originally collected through an intake process. The information regarding our independent variable
is collected in interview form. The intake worker asked the participant several questions including
their previous CPS involvement. Information regarding out dependent variable was originally
collected in a self–administered survey. The form is then input into a computer program and results
are created. The independent variable is not manipulated in any way. Procedure The secondary data
that we will be analyzing is collected by the Greater Richmond SCAN's Family Support Program

a child (Traux, 2013). The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) of 1974, was a

Assassination is always a serious business. It is unfamiliar to most of us who live in liberal
democracies. The Secret Service found that assassination seems clear is that, for almost all subjects,
attacks or near–lethal approaches occurred after a period of downward spiral in their lives (Dedman,
1998). The most often motive that assassins gave for attacking a public figure was to achieve
notoriety or fame, and only a few wanted political change or acted in a group. Other assassins

When my brother, Alex, was two years old, he was taken from my family because the hospital
wrongly accused my dad of shaking Alex at that time. This started with after my dad put Alex down

Aspects Of Working In Protective Services
I believe that the most challenging aspect of working in protective services is separating work from
home. Being able to "leave work at work" is difficult to do for any position, especially when
considering deadlines that must be met and paperwork that must be completed. Working in
protective services provides the additional challenge of leaving the horrifying images and
circumstances that a service worker will see and face at the door before entering the home.
Protective services appeals to me specifically because I want to assist children and families in facing
