2. WHAT IS IT?
It was signed on December 2, 1823.
The idea was brought up by President James Monroe.
It stated that the European powers could no longer interfere with
the Americans.
James Monroe started this doctrine because he wanted the
Americans to have their own policy.
3. EVENTS?
They added the Roosevelt Corollary, which was Theodore
Roosevelt's amendment at the time. The could only enforce this
doctrine if they had military force.
First introduced during Monroe’s seventh annual State of the
union address to Congress.
4. WHAT IS ITS IMPORTANCE?
It told European countries that Latin America was no longer
colonizing in the U.S.
The U.S. stated they would not help Europe colonize anymore.
Became the cornerstone in the U.S. foreign policy.
