killing?
There was the idea that fighting and killing "could be
a blessed and religiously meritorious act.”
They cared a lot about heroism and valor, thinking
that any good knight should be skilled in battle.
5. What did the king think of
this?
The king, Edward III, thought highly of Chivalry and
it played a large part in his ruling; he even had
annual tournaments.
6. The Crusades
The Crusades were a time when the Code of
Chivalry was used a lot.
“Every Crusader had to swear „to defend to his
uttermost the weak, the orphan, the widow and the
oppressed; he should be courteous, and women
should receive his especial care‟” (“Medieval Code of
Chivalry”).
7. The Song of Roland
In the early 11th century someone wrote a song about
the Code of Chivalry.
The song was named the “Song of Roland”.
It describes the 8th century knights and
Charlemagne's Code of Chivalry.
